Chapter 116: Savior (Episode 3)

The once fearsome and massive Death Spike Arachnid was no longer in form. Instead, it was now scattered into football-sized chunks of chitin and organ sludge.

Leon panted slightly as his red horns dissipated and retracted back into his head.

He immediately stepped toward the pillars, hoping to reunite with Gool as quick as possible. But something caught his eye.

He turned and noticed the heart of the spider on the ground. The heart seemed crystallized, and it was still beating within a transparent purplish crystal.

It caught Leon off guard, ’This must be a useful item...’ He thought, ’I should keep hold of it for now.’ He put the item in the small pockets he still barely had.

He was in dire need of an outfit change.

Leon hurriedly returned to Gool. When he got there, the goblin looked deceased.

Gool had his eyes closed, remaining frozen and blissful.

Leon quickly knelt down beside him and checked his pulse.

’Thankfully, he’s still alive. But I wonder how long that will last.’ Leon thought, relief washing over him.

"Sir Gool! I have returned!" He said in a slightly raised tone. After a few light pats to the shoulder, Gool slowly opened his eyes.

"The antidote... how can I attain it? I promise, I will get it for you. I will try my best!" Leon said, hopeful for the goblin.

"D-don’t be rash. You barely know me... You shouldn’t give words that put your life at risk so easily," Gool replied in a slow and groaning voice.

"I-I see..." Leon replied, "Still... if it’s possible to get an antidote and potentially save you, I will try."

"Why?" Gool asked.

Leon furrowed his eyebrows, looking down for a moment. But then, his gaze shot right back up to face Gool’s.

"Because it is the right thing to do." Leon firmly stated, "For all I know, you’re a good person. You even tried to help me. For that, I must try my best to help you. I can not simply let you die while doing nothing to stop it. I will not." He said, stern in his stance.

Gool chuckled wearily.

"Fine... but be wary, as this quest is not easy. I only have close to three weeks or so left to live. By then, you may have time to return with the medicine. Head west from here, and you will find two indistinguishable hills that create a long valley. The hills will stand out from the surroundings, and in the valley, a cave entrance lies." Gool said as Leon closely listened along, "There, the cove of Death Spike Arachnids exists. Deep within the cave, there are dozens of these spiders. I’m afraid that even with your ability to avoid poison, you will still be at risk, for the very air within that cove is extremely dangerous. A single breath could knock out an average goblin, and a dozen could kill one." Gool said in a low tone.

Leon’s expression remained resolved. He stood up, facing west.

’This young man... he’s actually considering going?’ Gool thought with shock as his eyes widened.

"W-wait..." He said, "You will need the heart of a fully grown Death Spike Arachnid. Since you killed the elder one, that should be available. Afterwards, you will find an antibody only found in and near the embryo of a spider still within its egg. When developing, these spiders are surrounded by this antibody to ensure they are immune to their own poison. You must retrieve the mucus of the egg membrane and combine it with the heart blood of the grown arachnid, and the antidote will be created." Gool said, his eyes gazing at Leon with a sincere look.

"Don’t risk your life. You can still turn back." He said, not wanting to force any false obligations.

Leon smiled, "You are really a good person. Then it is undeniable. I must help you!" He said before dashing toward the west.

Gool kept his eye on Leon for as long as he could, but eventually, the boy disappeared into the brush.

On top of that, Gool’s body slowly shut down and entered a comatose state. His body entered this state to preserve as much energy as possible and use all faculties of the body to fight off the poison.

However, the poison was a sure killer without the antidote. Now, only time would tell whether Leon would return with the antidote, or if Gool was to pass away silently.

*Present Time*

Midas stood up, "Why was his body not found under the pillars!?" He said in a raised tone, slightly irritated at Gool’s state.

The mosquitoes in the area lowered their heads in fear.

"My lord... the pillars must have blocked his body from an angle that made it difficult for us to observe him in the sky." A mosquito floated forward and said.

Midas exhaled, ’I shouldn’t release my anger on them.’ He thought.

"Fine..." He paused, "I am deeply grateful for all of you. Without your help, Gool would not have been found even today."

The mosquito’s frowns turned to smiles as they thanked Midas in a low murmur.

Suddenly, Midas sensed a presence slowly encroaching toward them. He used Eye of Ace, noticing a human a few dozen feet behind them in the forest.

Midas instantly turned, his eyebrows furrowed.

’I couldn’t detect him even though he was only fifty or so feet away... a human being on this island is already suspicious, but this makes it a lot worse.’ Midas was immediately on edge.

All the other mosquitoes floated in the air and gazed toward where their master was looking.

Out of the bushes, a young man wearing torn clothing slowly stepped out.

"Who is that?" A mosquito buzzed.

"Another human!"

"Look!"

"He looks injured!"

"It’s another human."

"A human?"

"He doesn’t look like he’s in a good state..."

Midas’s brows furrowed, noticing several gashes on the young man’s body. Dried blood had been plastered all over his physique.

His skin was slightly purple and ripped with scars, while his eyes had a bloodshot look.

He took slow, deliberate steps forward. Each step, his foot grazed against the grass. It was clear that it took all of his energy just to take a single step.

’D-did he walk here like this!?’ Midas thought, shocked.

He didn’t make a move, allowing Leon to walk all the way up to the pillars.

Then, Leon raised an empty coconut shell up into the air and placed it on the ground before falling backwards and slamming flat onto his back.
