Chapter 294: When Power Speaks ( 294 )

Emerging from the treeline in near silence, shadows moved between trunks and low mist.

Dozens of glowing eyes peered from the dark—a horde of mid-tier monsters, slowly stepping into view. Fangs glinted, claws scraped stone, and heavy breathing echoed.

Some were feline-shaped. Others looked reptilian. All of them had one thing in common:

They were hunting.

Panic flashed across the faces of the adventurers and guards.

Hazuki tilted his head, eyes half-lidded. "See? Loudmouths always bring friends."

Behind him, Girem was already reclining against a barrel, half-empty bottle in hand.

He blinked blearily at the chaos unfolding.

"L-Lad!! This be why ya don’t go shoutin’ at a rest stop!" he slurred. "Even wi’ monster repellents, ya yell too much and they get curious... hic."

"Everyone! Protect the lady!!" the adventurer leader shouted, snapping out of his frozen panic.

The guards and adventurers rushed forward into formation.

Meanwhile, the bratty girl, now pale-faced and trembling, let out a high-pitched scream as she realized just how many glowing eyes were surrounding them.

She turned on her heels and ran toward her carriage, her arms flailing as she shrieked.

"MY LADY!!" the butler shouted, running after her.

The two guards followed fast, weapons drawn, forming a barrier in front of the wagon.

But it was too late.

One of the larger beasts—resembling a hulking boar-lion hybrid—charged straight at the carriage.

CRASH!!

The entire vehicle flipped violently, wood splintering, the ornate door flinging open as it landed upside down with a deafening slam.

Inside, the girl was now bawling, her voice muffled by the crushed cushions and broken frame.

"It hurts!! I-I wanna go home!! DADDYYYYY!!"

Up above, Ridan hovered calmly above Hazuki, who was still standing near the fire pit, meat skewer dangling loosely in one hand.

"So... you’re not going to help?" Ridan asked, almost too casually.

Hazuki gave a lazy shrug. "I don’t know." He took another bite. "There’s a full Rank D+ adventurer party here, right? They were flexing earlier."

Ridan smirked. "Mmm. True. Can’t deny their confidence."

Hazuki raised an eyebrow at the surrounding chaos.

Screams echoed. Blades clanged.

The adventurer party was falling apart fast—pure panic on their faces now. One member was already sent flying, crashing into a tree and not getting back up. Another was crawling on the ground, clutching his bleeding leg.

The party leader stumbled backward, his sword trembling in his grip.

"T-This... this isn’t normal...!" he gasped. "These... these are Rank C monsters... we... we’re doomed..."

Hazuki let out a long, disappointed sigh.

"So much for Rank D+."

He took one last bite of his meat, then muttered, "Ridan."

Ridan floated down beside him, eyes gleaming with that too-familiar grin. "Need help?"

"Yeah. I hate moving too much." Hazuki rolled his shoulder lazily. "I can’t use magic anyway. But you can."

"Well... my pleasure." Ridan grinned wider.

With a brief shimmer of violet light, Ridan phased into Hazuki’s body.

[Spirit Link – Activate]

Hazuki’s posture shifted.

His eyes glowed faintly, and his lips curled into a cold smirk.

He raised one palm slowly.

"Annoying little beasts..."

[Thorny Binding]

In an instant, dozens of glowing, dark-green vines burst from the earth, wrapping around every monster in the area. The vines hissed, leaking poison mist as they coiled around limbs, necks, and torsos—binding them in place with brutal tightness.

The beasts roared and flailed—but none could move.

Their legs were locked. Their maws snapped uselessly. One tried to leap but was yanked back down mid-air, thorns piercing into its hide.

Hazuki’s expression didn’t change.

He simply curled his fingers slowly into a fist.

With a sickening series of crunches and snaps, every monster bound by the vines was crushed in place. Bones shattered. Muscles tore. Bodies twisted unnaturally beneath the sheer pressure of the magical bindings.

One by one, the struggling beasts went limp.

The battlefield fell into total silence—no growls, no screams—just the faint creaking of vines retracting back into the ground, leaving nothing but collapsed corpses behind.

The grass was stained with silence.

Hazuki casually dusted his hands, glancing over the motionless field of crushed monsters.

"Looks like everything’s done again in a flash, Ridan."

A familiar glow shimmered as Ridan phased out of Hazuki’s body, floating up with a smug grin stretching from cheek to cheek.

"Heh~ This is what an ancient spirit like me can do!" Ridan spun dramatically in the air. "The strongest wizard of a thousand years ago! Master of forbidden and ancient spells! Genius among geniuses! A living—well, dead—legend!"

Hazuki gave him a blank look and shrugged. "Yeah yeah... whatever."

Ridan didn’t even notice the lack of enthusiasm. He was too busy doing victory loops in the air, swirling in circles, then diving low toward the campfire before shooting straight up again like a hyperactive spark.

"Woooo~! I still got it! They should carve my face on the moon!"

Hazuki, completely unfazed, walked back to where his skewer lay untouched.

"You done showing off, o mighty fogball? I’d like to finish dinner before someone else picks a fight."

"Hey! Fogball!? I’ll have you know I used to be worshipped!"

"Yeah? So was soup. Times change."

The overturned carriage creaked, broken wood settling as the dust began to clear.

From beneath the cracked frame, the butler struggled to pull someone out—the merchant’s daughter, her once-flawless robe now wrinkled, her face pale with dirt and fear.

She clung to him, legs trembling, eyes wide in shock.

Across the field, the two guards stood frozen in place—swords still drawn, but arms slack, expressions blank.

They had seen it with their own eyes.

Not a team. Not a unit. Not a famous hero backed by nobles.

Just one man.

A human—calm, unimpressed, still chewing a piece of meat—and his casual flick of the wrist had wiped out an entire monster horde like it was nothing.

The guards exchanged silent glances.

They didn’t speak.

They couldn’t.

Because for the first time, they truly understood what a Solo Rank B+ Adventurer meant.

Even if Hazuki wasn’t wearing gleaming armor...

Even if he wasn’t surrounded by a dozen women...

Even if he looked like some random wanderer...

Power didn’t need decoration.

And near the front, the leader of the D+ party stood rooted to the ground.

His knees slightly bent, his sword tip resting against the soil, eyes still locked on Hazuki.

No words came out of his mouth.

No pride.

No anger.

Just cold realization.

That they had messed with someone so far beyond them, they didn’t even register the gap until it was too late.
