Chapter 568: Chapter 568: Since You Are Sincere_1

"I don’t know either," Xu Wandao said with regret.

He had previously tried to contact Xu Lai through Gao He, the president of the East Sea City Martial Dao Association, but was told Xu Lai’s phone was out of service. He couldn’t be reached at all.

Xu Wandao cupped his fists and said, "I ask you, seniors, to please try and persuade Deng Xiaoyao. Perhaps he’ll show you some deference."

"Deference? Humph!" Wang Fang’s expression turned ugly as she snorted coldly. "We already went before you arrived. He said, ’My target is Xu Lai, but I don’t mind killing a few more people.’"

"Deng Xiaoyao said he’ll only wait until midnight," Zhang Suzi said. "For every minute he’s late, a hundred people will die. For every hour, ten thousand will die. And if he’s a day late, the entire East Sea City will be slaughtered."

"What?" Xu Wandao exclaimed angrily. "He must have the heart of a bear and the gall of a leopard to dare speak such treacherous words!"

"Grandfather, if Xu Lai doesn’t come today, who in Hua Country can stop Deng Xiaoyao while he wields the Demon Sword?" Zhang Suzi asked.

The other four Divine Gate Realm experts and the one Ninth Grade Great Martial Ancestor all fell silent.

Wang Fang sighed. "Even if it is Xu Lai, I’m afraid he might not be a match for Deng Xiaoyao."

"Senior Xu Lai stabilized the Dragon Vein with a single thought and confronted that terrifying entity beneath Gudu Island. He must have won," Xu Wandao said solemnly. "He can definitely defeat Deng Xiaoyao!"

After those two incidents, Xu Wandao had absolute confidence in Xu Lai. Moreover, Xu Lai had bestowed a great fortune upon his own ancestor, Xu Yanyang—a man remembered by the entire Martial Dao of Hua Country—allowing him to break through to the Nascent Soul realm! With that in mind, how could he not believe in Xu Lai’s strength?

The other two Divine Gate Realm experts remained silent. To them, Xu Lai’s origins were a complete mystery, as if he had appeared out of thin air. Some high-ranking members of the Martial Dao World even suspected that Xu Lai might be a cultivator from off-world, but there was still no definitive answer.

"So be it," Zhang Henshui said calmly. "If Xu Lai doesn’t appear, I will act. Deng Xiaoyao has succumbed to madness, and it is everyone’s duty to eliminate him!"

"Grandfather, you can’t defeat Deng Xiaoyao," Zhang Suzi said anxiously. "You’re just going to your death! In my opinion, we should have the Pavilion Master of the Penglai Sword Pavilion come and take his junior brother back."

"If only things were that simple," Wang Fang said, narrowing her slightly cloudy eyes as an invisible aura erupted from her. "Old Zhang, if you’re really determined to die, count me in. I’ll go with you."

She was in the early stage of the Divine Gate Realm and had spent most of her life defending Chang’an City from the Moon Clan’s invasions. She had no fear of death.

Time ticked by, and it was soon half-past nine in the evening.

The man they were waiting for had yet to appear. The martial artists gathered around the island to witness the battle between peak experts were growing impatient.

As the clock crept closer to the deadly deadline of ten, cold sweat beaded on Xu Wandao’s forehead. He could sense the surrounding spiritual energy quietly converging. It was the five Divine Gate experts, including Zhang Henshui and Wang Fang. They were all gathering their power, preparing to strike Deng Xiaoyao at a moment’s notice.

Nine-fifty. No one had come.

But the martial artists who had come for the spectacle were no longer boisterous; they could vaguely sense the palpable tension in the air. They held their breath, remaining silently on their boats as they bobbed with the waves.

Nine fifty-five, nine fifty-six, nine fifty-seven...

Until the fifty-ninth minute.

Finally, a figure appeared, flying through the distant sky.

Xu Wandao instinctively looked over, but when he saw the person’s face clearly, the hope in his eyes turned to alarm.

"It’s not Xu Lai! Why is it Xu Yiyi?!"

Xu Wandao’s expression changed dramatically. The newcomer was none other than Ruan Lan, with the two children, Xu Yiyi and Qian Xiao, in tow.

He wanted to stop them, but to his astonishment, the three landed directly on the island. He, a Ninth Grade Great Martial Ancestor, had actually failed to intercept them!

"How about that? Isn’t your auntie amazing?" Ruan Lan chuckled, holding the Formation Chessboard.

She had spent three hours figuring out a flying formation on her own that allowed people to soar into the sky. Although it was her first time using it, the results were quite good. Ruan Lan had expected to see looks of envy and astonishment on her niece’s and Qian Xiao’s faces, but she was met with two complex gazes instead.

"Auntie, flying isn’t that hard," Qian Xiao said as he levitated into the air, hovering about a meter off the ground.

"What!?" Ruan Lan was shocked.

She knew Qian Xiao and Yiyi had been cultivating for a while, but she never expected he could already fly. Ruan Lan looked toward Xu Yiyi, hoping for some validation from her niece, only to see Yiyi float into the air as well.

"Pfft—" Ruan Lan clutched her chest, nearly dying on the spot. It turned out she was the only one of the three who couldn’t fly!

If I’d known, I would have brought Su Daiyi and the others along. At least they probably can’t fly... Ruan Lan lamented internally.

Ten minutes earlier, their group had arrived at the pier, but Old Jiang Ba and Su Daiyi had adamantly refused to come any further, afraid they would become a burden.

Dark clouds obscured the moon. In the darkness, Ruan Lan hadn’t noticed the countless boats moored around the island, nor did she see the five Divine Gate Realm experts and Xu Wandao in the sky.

Xu Yiyi and Qian Xiao, however, blinked their eyes.

A few days ago, on Gudu Island, Xu Yiyi had unleashed her Qingfeng Sword Intent and entered the Golden Core Realm. By a stroke of luck, Qian Xiao had also stepped into the Golden Core realm. Although their lack of combat experience prevented them from using their full power, their Divine Sense was incredibly sharp.

"Quick, save them!" Xu Wandao cried out from the sky, filled with anxiety. If Senior Xu Lai’s daughter died here, heaven knew what terrifying things that man would do in response.

However, it was too late.

As Ruan Lan and the two children set foot on the island, Deng Xiaoyao, who had been sitting silently in the center of Sea Temple Island, opened his eyes. An invisible pressure radiated outward, forming a black barrier that blocked all sight and Divine Sense, turning Sea Temple Island into an isolated domain!

"That’s Senior Xu Lai’s daughter..." Xu Wandao’s face was ashen. He had witnessed Xu Yiyi’s skills, which were comparable to the Divine Gate Realm, but they were facing Deng Xiaoyao, a man who had become famous seventy years ago. They were also facing that bloodthirsty Demon Sword Wuzheng, sealed for a thousand years within the Penglai Sword Tomb!

BANG!

Zhang Henshui, Wang Fang, and the other Divine Gate Realm experts continuously struck the black barrier, but their efforts were futile. They simply couldn’t break through.

"We’re done for." Zhang Suzi’s voice was laced with despair. Those three were likely to die inside.

Unfortunately, there was nothing they could do. They couldn’t even see what was happening, forced to wait in torturous anxiety.

"What’s going on? Why is the island covered by a black barrier?"

"Did the person Deng Xiaoyao was waiting for arrive? Damn it, I wanted to see this fight!"

"..."

The Martial Artists outside the island were also getting anxious. They had been waiting since morning, not even stopping for dinner, only to see a dark shadow flash across the sky before everything was hidden from view. The suspense was killing them!

Inside and outside the barrier were two different worlds.

Ruan Lan had no idea she had become the "center of attention." She bellowed, "Where is the scoundrel!"

"You are not Xu Lai. Who are you?" Deng Xiaoyao asked as he stood up. Though his back was hunched, he seemed impossibly tall, like an insurmountable mountain.

"Since you’ve asked so earnestly, I shall be merciful and tell you." Ruan Lan adopted a serious expression. "Standing before you is the Sect Leader of the Star Origin Sect, the number one Sect Gate in the Immortal Domain! The Saint of the Array Path! The future Empress! The fairy with countless admirers—Fairy Ruan Lan!"
