Chapter 97 - The Tidbits

Hano's eyes sparkled with an unknown delight as I explained my whole plan for Lost Prospect Mine and the surrounding area. He smirked, "I never actually tried to invent anything."

I raised an eyebrow at that, "You literally have a dwemer electric guitar and most likely invented rock music."

I shrugged, "I mean, like, music is nice. Except it doesn't... I actually don't have the words for it. It's something for others I suppose. Point is I'll help you with grey beards gathering people. I've met them before or well, Paarthurnax."

"The problem is gathering the other players. Meeting you made me realize they might be similar, fearful of others, paranoid of the other players perhaps. I know I am, it would only make sense others could be too."

Hano nodded, "Could be depressed or caught up in other emotions. When the time comes, I'll handle the other players. This sounds fun, honestly if you just told be we would collect the players, I would still likely be on board."

Both out expressions changed as we heard a distant howl. It echoed through the canyon, except we could both tell it came from outside the canyon. Hano smirked, "Seems that's your que."

I checked my time, "That's a tad ahead of schedule."

A second, and a third, and then a fourth howl called out. I frowned and Hano looked at me, "That doesn't seem good."

I nodded and started running, Hano actually followed behind me. I climbed the rock wall of the canyon. I saw Hano thought scale the mountian like it was nothing and he got ahead of me. He held a hand out, "Acrobatics, they are extremely useful."

I grabbed his hand and was pulled up the rest of the way. "I could see that."

The two of us started sprinting again and the howls continued, turned into barking and growls. Amongst them I recognized the growls. Not a perfect sample of her voice, but I knew it was Viree. Just over a out cropping I saw a large group of people surrounding Viree in her werewolf form.

I recognized them immediately, and I jumped from above and yanked Sable Wave free. I slammed my sword straight into the back of one as I rolled to Viree's side. "Fucking Silverhand."

Viree looked at me with tears in her eyes. Several arrows were stuck in her back. The silver hand took a step back. One of the them dressed in hide armor made from a black fur spoke up. "Move away from the plague-ridden beast."

He took a step back as my expression changed. From behind two of the silverhand's heads snapped. A third was grabbed and yanked into the air by Hano and thrown into a tree. Hano smirked at the Silverhand who spoke.

He looked a little panicked, but he his expression turned. "You think I'm scared of a vampire? I can kill you the same as the beast." He pointed at me, "And I will kill you two boy. Any associate of these monsters deserves to die."

I shifted my armor, and my equipment changed and an over-sized cloak wrapped around me. Hano stepped back in surprise and a cold chill ran through me as the weather rapidly changed. I gave the man a wide grin. "I'm going to skin you and add you to this cloak."

He fumbled, but he raised his sword. Hano took another step back while Viree buried her head into the ground. He was shaking, both from fear and cold. I took a step forward, "What is your name?"

He seemed to resolve himself, "I am Kaiber! The Great Silverhand Hunter!"

He charged forward, but it didn't do much. Sable Wave sliced through his arm and he fell to the ground. He fell to the ground and his blood stained the snow. He yelled, "I die for greatness! To Sovngarde."

I casted soul trap on the man and smiled, "No, not to Sovngarde. You hurt my right hand minion."

His eyes widened as I slammed Sable Wave into his back. Hano commented, "Note to self, don't hurt Vek's right hand minion. However I don't think that's what is important."

He looked at me as I pulled an arrow from Viree's back. He spoke again, "What is that cloak and what the hell is this Blizzard?"

I pulled another arrow from Viree's back and she groaned. "Just things I picked up, I won't tell you about the blizzard. However I got the cloak from a giant."

He shook his head, "I've seen some fucked up shit, but I have never seen a cloak made of skin."

I pulled out the last arrow and started healing Viree. She groaned, but stayed still. "The real question is what was the silver hand doing out here?"

Hano nodded, "Good point, they don't really come near Dawnguard."

Viree tilted her head toward the right. I followed her gesture and looked at the Silverhand Hano threw at a tree. I got up and walked toward the man. I searched his body and found a black shard. "A fragment of Wuuthrad. They likely saw Viree when traveling back home and figured they would try and kill a werewolf."

Hano nodded, "and held up an arrow. The arrow is silver and dipped with Wolf's bane. A poison made to hunt werewolves, its basically a tranquilizer."

Hano looked at Viree as she brushed my side. "You two are... and odd couple."

I raised my eyebrow, "What do you mean?"

Hano looked at me with an expression I didn't understand. He turned back to the Kaiber guy. "Faux Savior's hide. A poor imitation of the real thing."

I looked at the guy and his armor a little closer. Sure enough Hano was right. The armor was called Defender's Hide. It made one immune to diseases and not much else. The armor was stronger than normal hide, but weaker than elven armor. I took it, I could sew it into the patchwork cloak.

I patted Viree's head again. "You should go back Hano, we will be here."

He raised an eyebrow in curiosity, but left with a wave. I didn't really wait until we couldn't see him anymore. If he wanted to eavesdrop he could just sneak back over here and listen in. Neither me or Viree would even know.

I gave Viree the ring of Hircine and asked. "Are you okay?"

She nodded as she slipping the ring on her finger and transformed back. I looked away as I handed her armor back to her. She started talking, "I found some frost trolls and when I was, um, eating one. I got shot in the back with an arrow. As soon as that happened I started running back."

I took her speaking as my que that I could look again. Sure enough she had put on most of her clothes. Though she was mid equipping her chest plate. I felt myself smile slightly, "I figured when it was ahead of schedule and followed up by several other howls."

She nodded, "Thank god you heard me, the Khajiit. He called it Wolf's Bane? That stuff fucked me up. It was like all my muscles relaxed and even now my my muscles still feel, not weak, but certainly without strength."

I measured the direction Viree likely ran from. "Would you say they attacked from the north or east?"

She looked around, "East, I suppose?"

I nodded, "Seems like they found a nordic tomb in the mountains that held Wuuthrad's fragment. I'll make a mental note and see if someone can find it at some point. I doubt these guys documented in word walls they saw."

Viree paused, "I think I killed one the one with the camping supplies. Smaller framed guy, but had a back pack that was rather large. Slammed into him as I ran down the mountian."

Nodding along that made sense. I got up from the snow and checked my inventory. The Star Prison held three people now. It mattered little to me, but I wondered if I should summon the Kaiber guy and question him.

Viree grabbed my hand, "Let's go down the mountian. I think I want to relax."

I looked at her, "Do you think you might transform tomorrow?"

She had transformed early so it would the time spent would be shorter. She shook her head though, "Nah, I don't think so." We slide down a slope as we made idle talk.
