Chapter 92 - Cursed no more
I sent Derkeethus to Lost Prospect mine, his party had Hajvarr, Ulfr and even Deepest-Fathoms. While Illia and Viree came with me to the cursed tribe. When we arrived at the gates the guard instantly opened it. I suppose I should learn their names.
"Atub is waiting for you." I thought on the name of the guard as they led us. I believe this one was...
"Thanks for leading the way Lob." The orc guard nodded and wandered off as I turned back to Atub.
She looked terrible as she rose from a prayer. That scarecrow that Malacath used as medium to speak was glowing again. Atub had dark circles under her eyes, "The medium had been glowing since a few days ago. I suspected a success, but after the long wait..."
I removed my helmet and placed it to my chest, "Yamarz didn't make it, he b-"
Before I finished my sentence the medium grew in power and Malacath's powerful voice came through. "He betrayed everything he represented. He tried to flee when confronting the giants, had to be pushed into the fight, and couldn't even kill one giant without help."
Atub frowned, "Does that mean?"

Malacath scoffed, "I am not so cruel to punish the collective for the absolute failure of a leader. Gularzob will be the new chieftain."
The medium lost a little of its glow and I assumed that was my turn to shine. "Speaking of a new chieftain. I think you guys should move, I understand it isn't common for a settled tribe to move. However with giants knowing your location and the altar being undefended like it is. I believe you should move camp into Fallowstone cave I looked over the place and it would be a good place to settle."
Atub was about to say something, but Malacath's presence returned in a flash. "For once I agree! I believe the tribe of Largashbur should resettle. Yamarz's failure has corrupted and tainted the tribe livelihood. Building a new home near Fallowstone cave will be good for the tribe. The mountains there have good veins and rich soil. Survival is the tribe is the most important choice right now and I leave it ultimately in your hands."
The Medium lost some color, but Malacath spoke with some finality. "Moving closer to Fallowstone may also provide me more direct intervention. If the tribe recovers perhaps I will even bless the tribe instead of curse it. Though I suspect you already have a blessing in your possession, do not squander the help of a blood-kin and champion."
The light of Malacath's power vanished from the scarecrow. The Orcish armor that cover it crumpled to the ground and the scarecrow shattered under a unseen force. That force revealed itself as a giant hammer. I recognized it as Volendrung and as much as I wanted to pick it up and drop it into my inventory.
"Viree, Pick up your new weapon and give me Pendulum." Viree's eyes sparkled at Volendrung. She tossed her old Two-handed mace at me and I packed it away into my inventory. Viree lifted the hammer and spun it in her hands.
"Hohohoho! This has good weight! I feel like I could turn a person into a paste with this bad boy." With Viree happy it was time to address more important manners.
To mu surprise Illia helped perfectly, "It sounds like Malacath wants Vek to continue helping your tribe."
Gularzob was the one to speak, "Yes, I suppose so. It seems we should move to Fallowstone cave. Champion Vek, I don't suppose you have any suggestions."
With my trademark smile at this point I spoke. "If you want ideas to move there, I don't have many. I do have a mining operation near there and can suggest some ideas for your tribe to prosper though."
Gularzob put an hand to his chin, "That makes sense, I suppose we will just make due on travel. It isn't extremely far, not like the pilgrimage to our current location."
Atub nodded, "Yes the original pilgrimage was much harder than this. Champion Vek, Blood-kin Viree, Blood-kin Illia, I wish to retire for the day for much needed sleep. Please discuss everything required of us with the new chieftain."
I nodded, "Sweet dreams..." As she left Illia whispered, "I didn't do anything why am I Blood-kin?"
I could tell her, but the explanation was boring. It was within my plan though, "It is only right for someone working for the guild to acquire a much needed title for trade."
She paused at my words and nodded. It seems she understood that it was within my expectations. I turned back to Gularzob, "Let's discuss the basics upon arrival. We can discuss the heavier details when you are settled."
Gularzob nodded, "That makes sense, so what is the basics? I figure it would mostly be mining and smithing, but that's just what we are good at."
"Which is a good start, but do you have mining equipment? The metal trade is usually how orc settlements make money right? Except you don't have any good smithing tools do you?" My point was obvious as Gularzob shook his head.
"Which comes down to what your tribe will need to do to sustain itself. I will get you a new anvil, as well as the other tools needed for smithing and mining. In exchange the metal that is mined from the operation I have near by will be sent to your tribe for processing. In fact it might not be a bad idea for some of your tribe to travel to the mine and help out. Do you have anyone to assess the mine we will be working on and can organize your people in the mines?"
Gularzob nodded, "That would be Ogul. Are you heading that way now?"
I nodded, "Yes, he can ride in the carriage if you want him to come with us."
Gularzob gave a second nod, "That would be perfect."
