Interstellar Beastworld: Raising A Cub With My Mummy System!-Chapter 27: YOU’VE OPENED MY EYES TO A WHOLE NEW KIND OF LOVE
Morning came.
Uriel was exhausted, dark circles under his eyes, but he had not slept.
Could not sleep.
Every time he closed his eyes, he saw Lin Yue on the table, her heart stopping, the chaos of the room.
But Auriel was here. Warm and alive and perfect.
A different nurse entered with a bottle. "Time to eat, little one."
Uriel watched as she fed Auriel, fascinated by the process. The tiny mouth latching on, the eager sucking, the way his little hands curled and uncurled.
When the feeding was done, the nurse burped him and handed him back. "He will sleep again now. They do that a lot at this age."
Uriel nodded and settled Auriel against his chest.
A commotion in the corridor made him look up.
Vethra was walking toward the nursery, a smile on her face. Behind her, two nurses were helping someone walk.
Lin Yue.
She was pale, unsteady, wearing a hospital gown, her hair damp from the tank. But she was awake.
She was walking.
Uriel stood, still holding Auriel, and moved toward the door.
When Lin Yue saw them, she stopped. Her eyes went from Uriel’s face to the tiny bundle in his arms, and tears spilled down her cheeks.
"My baby," she whispered. "Is that my baby?"
Uriel crossed the remaining distance and gently, carefully, transferred Auriel into her waiting arms.
Lin Yue looked down at her son for the first time with her own eyes, not through a window, not in a dream.
Gold eyes looked back at her.
"Hello, Auriel," she breathed. "I am your mummy. I have been waiting so long to meet you." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Auriel yawned.
She laughed and cried at the same time, leaning against Uriel for support. He put an arm around her, steadying her.
They stood there in the corridor, the three of them, a family.
Vethra watched from a distance, then quietly motioned for the nurses to give them space.
Some moments were not meant to be interrupted.
After a while, Lin Yue was wheeled into a private ward.
Uriel held Auriel while the nurse pushed Lin Yue in.
There was a bassinet by the bedside "You can place the baby here, your majesty." she directed then helped Lin Yue into the bed.
"Ma’am, you’ll be required to stay in the hospital for two more days. Both you and your baby. The birth documents will be given as soon as it’s ready before you get discharged, you’ll also be required to get a birth certificate at the hospital’s registry, there you’ll be given all other official documents before discharge."
Uriel nodded "Thank you, we’ll be sure to do as you have informed."
The nurse bowed, sent a smile at Lin Yue before taking her leave.
The fell into a comfortable silence. Uriel sank into the chair.
He could feel his eyes start to ache from how long he had gone with out sleep.
"This little guy...cries alot. Where you this whiny as a child?" This question was directed at Lin Yue who’s lips twitched.
"Well, you’d have to ask my mom. I don’t remember being a fussy baby. But it’s normal, he’s just trying to get used to his surroundings. It must be tough being new to life."
Lin Yue sat up, physically there was nothing wrong with her body, other than the loose skin.
She was physically fine.
But she did not expect the kind of mental exhaustion that came from giving birth.
And her body and brain felt weird inside.
"Yeah. Thank you Lin Yue. For giving me a son. You’ve opened my eyes to a whole new kind of love."
Uriel stood up as he said this, walking to the bassinet.
"This child you have given to me, I want to give him the world and you as well.."
Lin Yue smiled, playing with her fingers. "You don’t owe me anything. You don’t have to give me the world, marry me or feel obligated to take care of me. When I first got pregnant, I already made up my mind to take care of myself and Auriel regardless of if you were in our lives or not. After all I was the one who jumped on you, so I should also take responsibility, I should be the one taking responsibility for you, Uriel. As to how we’ll take care of our son going forward, I’m sure we’ll work something out."
Uriel smiled and crossed over to the bed, sitting down he held her hand gently. "I don’t know if it’s because you’re human but you think differently from the women we have on Primus. Regardless, as I told you before. Though you came up to me, I could have easily overpowered you.... possibly knock you out.."
-_-
Seeing Lin Yue’s expression when he said that made him laugh.
"But I couldn’t resist you. As a solder and someone on the force, my resolve is like a mountain not just anyone can make it crumble but you’re one of a kind. Honestly speaking, if you’d let me, I’d like to marry you Lin Yue and if you’re not comfortable with that, we can start small with a contract marriage and see if it will work between us. How does that sound?"
Lin Yue stared at him, her heart doing something complicated in her chest.
"You can be so thoughtful and persistent at times."
Inside her head, a familiar voice spoke.
[WELL, WELL, WELL. ISN’T THIS ROMANTIC?]
She kept her expression neutral.
"MS, not now."
[WHAT? I HAVE BEEN PATIENT. I LET YOU HAVE THE WHOLE BIRTH AND THE TEARFUL REUNION. BUT THIS IS IMPORTANT. YOU HAVE BEEN OFFICIALLY REMOVED FROM THE SURROGACY PROGRAM.]
-_-
"I’d almost forgotten about it. Can I ask why I was removed? Who makes the decisions?"
[BECAUSE YOU ARE MUCH BETTER AT BEING A MOTHER THAN WE EXPECTED. AND YOU HAVE FOUND A GOOD MATE WHO WILL SUPPORT YOU. PLUS, HE HAS EXPERIENCE RAISING STRAYS.]
Uriel’s ear twitched. "Strays?"
[YOU KNOW WHO I AM TALKING ABOUT.]
Lin Yue bit back a laugh. "So what happens now?"
[YOU HAVE BEEN ENROLLED IN A NEW PROGRAM. THE MATERNAL-OVERSIGHT-TRANSITION-HEALTH-EDUCATION-REARING PROGRAM. MOTHER FOR SHORT.]
"That is a very forced acronym."
[I DID MY BEST. OVER THE NEXT THREE YEARS, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO ADOPT AND RAISE THREE CHILDREN IN NEED, AS WELL AS HAVE TWO MORE BIOLOGICAL CHILDREN OF YOUR OWN.]
Lin Yue’s mouth fell open. "That is six children. Total."
[CORRECT. YOU AND YOUR BELOVED WILL BE RAISING SIX CHILDREN TOGETHER. CONGRATULATIONS.]
