Insect Tamer's Ascension-Chapter 93: What did we just do?
Just when the giant viper thought its eyes were locked onto the small prey, the mantis vanished from its sight.
Its snake-like eyes widened in shock - it was the first time Theo saw such raw emotions on a beast's face.
"I don't know why a level 6 beast is here..." Clara muttered slowly to herself. Theo heard it yet all his focus seemed to only be on this opportunity.
The viper's face moved left and right slowly; it seemed as if it could still feel the mantis near it but the only problem was spotting it.
Clara couldn't believe that the mantis could keep the big viper's attention for so long. She looked at the boar's eyes for a second who snorted once - it was ready whenever she needed.
'Spore lash, to the right' Theo gave another mental command and smirked. It was now or never.
The mantis had already camouflaged itself in the greenery around, and when the command came, it became a blur again only to latch itself on the vertical curvy body of the snake.
Theo frowned; it seemed the mantis's reach was still not too far.

Just when the mantis latched, it was the first time since the camouflage that the viper saw it again.
It moved its tail swiftly toward the mantis which came from the dense grass from the hind.
'Move up fast,' Theo gave an improvised command and the mantis started doing that. It climbed up with the help of its pointy forelegs that dug itself in between the scales.
Yet the tail was quite flexible, and when Theo saw that it changed its trajectory midway toward it, another mental command left his mind in hurry: 'Attack coming, dodge!'
Theo didn't know just how the mantis would dodge - the command was quite vague - yet the fortunate thing was that the mantis noticed the attack coming toward it right after the command.
When the tail that looked as tough as a rock came way too close for Theo's liking, the mantis swiftly hopped up making quite a lot of distance.
The tail stopped midway, much to Theo's dismay who thought the tail would just collide on the viper's body itself.
As if the tail had its own brain, it flexibly moved up with little speed, as if it was trying to grab the mantis this time.
Theo grinned. The mantis was now more than halfway up. Another command left his mind.
The mantis went with it right away, becoming a blur. The next moment, it was already near the face of the viper whose irises enlarged in panic.
Theo wanted it to puncture the eye at the same time, yet seeing that it could only reach the tip of the face, he still felt satisfied.
Right the next second, when the foreleg touched the face, spores came out both of the forelegs in quantity better than when it was only level 0.
The spores stayed in the air while some entered the opened mouth and some through the eyes.
The mantis latched onto the body of the viper again, as if it knew that going all the way down meant it would have to do everything again. Theo was quite satisfied with its judgment.
For a second, Theo doubted that the spores would work on such a creature - there was quite a level difference between them.
Yet to his delight, the viper's huge eyes became bloodshot and its huge body limped for a second.
'NOW!!' Theo almost shouted out loud in excitement yet was able to suppress it.
The mantis that was near the falling face became yet another blur, and the next second, Theo could see nothing had happened.
The viper's body stiffened again and it moved up in panic. Theo frowned - it seemed the execution was excellent this time yet the attack was just simply not enough.
While the mantis could not be seen anymore, the viper stayed completely frozen before a stream of reddish-blue blood came out of the left side of its face.
Theo's eyes widened in shock - the attack actually worked?
Even Clara looked at the falling droplets of blood with dumbfoundedness. Her gaze was fixed at the viper who itself felt like something was wrong.
Theo felt a small tap on his shoe and he looked down while flinching. The mantis was looking up at him with its usual face.
Yet when Theo locked eyes, a grin formed on his face. His teeth shivered from the cold pressure in the air yet the adrenaline was shooting up.
He looked at the viper again whose eyes had locked onto Theo now - yet on closer notice, it was actually at the mantis who stood on his foot.
The viper moved its body forward with speed that Theo wasn't prepared for; all the hair on his body straightened in goosebumps.
His body flinched when the viper covered the distance in a matter of seconds. It was going to hit Theo anytime soon when Theo felt the ground beside him quake.
For a second, it felt like he knew what was happening. His face was down and his eyes closed.
SQUEAKK!!
In three seconds, when nothing happened, Theo knew he was safe. He looked up and saw the reddish tusks of the boar directly embedded inside the viper's face.
The viper's whole body went limp right away with the tusks all inside it.

Theo looked at the screen in front of him with overwhelming emotions. He couldn't tell what he was exactly feeling, yet one thing was clear - he had just helped fight off a level 6 beast with just a level 3 tame.
Theo's gaze slowly went to Clara who was already looking at him. There was a warm smile on her face.
"You did it, young master. You defeated a level 6 beast."
