Inheriting a Lost Bloodline, My First Task is to have heirs?!-Chapter 471 - When the Ice King Starts to Melt
Chapter 471: Chapter 471 - When the Ice King Starts to Melt
After Caius received his storage ring from me, he became even more diligent in collecting everything useful from the forest. He harvested more firewood, even dried twigs and leaves, anything he could use as fuel. He also stored everything he saw that was edible from wild fruits, wild vegetables, root crops, mushroom, fish, medicinal herbs and even meat from animals that he started hunting all of a sudden. I believe he harvested more items in the last three hours after noon than everything he got during the whole morning we were checking every nook and cranny in this forest.
I could only shake my head in amusement. He was really over the moon with the storage ring I gave him and I can clearly see it in his facial expression and actions. He was like a child that finally got the toy he always wanted. This joyful and excited energy he was exuding continued even until we reconvened with the rest of the soldiers in the meet up point at 3:00pm.
As for me, it was awkward. I can see the curious looks that the other soldiers are giving me and Caius. It was as if they are asking with their eyes as to what kind of miracle there was or what I did to make the cold and indifferent General Caius Astrantia act this way.
Do I have any intention to explain? Nah. It is not like I did anything harmful to the guy. I trust that he’ll manage to get back to some form of normalcy soon.
After all the 60 soldiers plus me and Caius have reconvened in the meet up point, the mission leader started asking everybody to check on their companions for any injury so that it can be addressed as soon as possible. The soldiers also started pulling out some snack from their backpacks. They plan to eat and drink a bit before making their way back to the northern military camp.
Honestly, me and Caius are still full from all the things that we ate for lunch and the occasional snacking we did with the wild fruits that we found. I approached the mission leader who was standing in front of the crowd and whispered that I will be on my way back to the camp first. The leader looked stunned but still nodded his head to give his permission. I walked back to my previous spot, grabbed Caius by the wrist and teleported away from the reconvene point.
Me and my companion reappeared a few meters behind my wagon. I immediately looked at Caius and surely, he was throwing up and gasping for air. I totally forgot to use a spell to protect him from the effects of teleportation.
I immediately placed a hand on his back and started channeling some healing mana towards him to make him feel better. He looked up at me with teary eyes and a red face as he felt a bit better. He smiled weakly and then chuckled.
I looked at him with furrowed brows and asked, "What is so funny? The effects of teleportation for first timers is not so nice, you know?"
He looked at me and replied, "You were worried about me and healed me immediately. You even teleported me together with you so I do not have to walk all the way back. Nothing’s funny. I am just happy."
I rolled my eyes at him and turned around to walk towards my wagon. He followed me and pulled the hem of my shirt and asked, "Where are you going? I’m so sorry. I won’t laugh anymore. Thank you for letting me accompany you in the forest, feeding me, giving me the storage ring, bringing me here quickly and healing me even though you obviously do not like me."
I paused in my steps and turned around quickly. Caius, not expecting that I will turn around so quickly had to stop his steps so abruptly that he lost balance. He ended up falling forward towards me with an unintentional hug, his chin resting on my shoulder, his arms around my waist and both my hands on his chest to stop his fall. I was just as stunned as he was with how quick everything happened.
I waited for a few seconds but it seems like the guy had no intention of stepping back or letting go of my waist. I tried to push his chest off of me but his hold around my waist became tighter. This damned hooligan even had the audacity to start sniffing my neck, his warm breath brushing on my skin.
I totally wanted to push him with all my might but he might die so I tried to address this issue in a calm manner. I coughed once and whispered, "Have you hugged enough? Any plans of letting me go anytime soon?"
As if hit by a bolt of lightning, Caius let go of my waist, pushed me a bit and even made a few steps backwards to get some space between us. He was breathing heavily and looking at me as if I did him wrong. He murmured a question as he said, "What just... What did you... That’s..."
I smiled in amusement, knowing exactly why he was reacting that way. Well, my mystique scent must have hit him and he lost his mind for a bit. He did hug me but I got a feel of his chest anyways so I really didn’t lose anything. No complaints here.
I turned around once again and started walking towards my wagon. This time, Caius was too stunned to think about following me. I was already in front of my wagon door when I heard him shout, "Wait a second!" I did not look back and simply pretended I did not hear him then walked inside my wagon.
He started banging on my wagon door but I pretended to be deaf. He knocked for a good five minutes before he gave up. He left an angry message at my door but he kept his voice as low as he could.
His message was simple, "I’m leaving today since I have to surrender the things I have harvested in the forest. We will have to talk tomorrow about what just happened. You can try to hide from me but I will hunt you down until we talk about this. I know you did something or whatever!"
I guess we will be playing "hide and seek" again for the next couple of days. I will let him go crazy thinking about it for now because he looked cute all flustered like that.
