Inheriting a Lost Bloodline, My First Task is to have heirs?!-Chapter 458 - Settling In and Prepping for Changes
Chapter 458: Chapter 458 - Settling In and Prepping for Changes
After the meeting which felt weird since I was the only one who was speaking 90% of the time, I decided to return to my wagon instead. It would be weird to just go to the dining facility of this place for now without being introduced officially first. Even if I was tasked to work for them, I am still an outsider to everyone.
I went straight to my room and Void was still sleeping soundly on my bed. I changed to my home clothes real quick and snuggled next to him under the sheets. His body immediately squirmed and scooted towards me, reacting to my skin touching his. I stole a kiss from his lips and he whined a "no more" in complaint which made me giggle softly.
I haven’t even enjoyed the warmth of my husband that much when I heard a deep male voice calling for me from outside the wagon. Void’s eyes snapped open with killing intent exuding from them, seemingly averse to the sound of a male’s voice calling my name. I held both sides of his face and made him look at me to distract him. I reminded him that we are inside a military camp full of male soldiers so I don’t have a choice but to work and speak with them.
His eyes cooled down quite quickly and then they closed again slowly. It was as if the killing intent earlier was nothing but an illusion or maybe he was just having nightmares. I lazily left the bed and changed back to the clothes I was wearing earlier. I had no choice but to come out and meet whoever was calling me.
As I walked out of the wagon, what welcomed me was the person standing behind General Delphis a while ago. It seems like I missed getting his name though so I simply nodded at him once to acknowledge his presence. He seemed to have noticed that I did not call him by name as his eyes widened. He suddenly bowed his head and apologized for not introducing himself earlier.
Finally, the cold face now has a name, "Andreas Armand". I asked him about what he needed and he offered me a tour of the basic facilities in the camp. I am quite bored and it is bound to happen anyways so I agreed.
The first place he brought me to was the dining facility. It was a wide sturdy building that serves as the kitchen, storage facility of food ingredients and the serving area during meal times. It is connected to a huge covered area without walls that serve as the soldiers’ dining area. The dining area could only accommodate about 100 to 150 people at a time so they do not have a choice but to eat in batches.
Though the structure was simple, it is made to fit the purpose it is meant to have so I do not have any comments about it. I can just apply a bit of preservationand self-repair magic on the tables and chairs instead so they can be used for a very long time. I looked up and it seems that the reason that there were no walls was to take advantage of natural lighting.
I looked at Colonel Andreas and whispered, "If I have a way to provide natural lighting during the day from the roof and an alternative source of light in the evenings as well, would you consider closing up the sides of this dining hall?"
He looked at me with full focus then his eyes furrowed. He then looked up towards the ceiling and the non-existent walls of the dining area. He then answered, "I will take note of those suggestions and plans for now. Any possible changes have to be planned accordingly due to manpower constraints. It would also require a meeting with the people managing the facility and General Delphis too. I would have gladly said "yes" but it has to follow a certain protocol and receive approvals from the higher ups."
I nodded my head and answered, "Sure. Do what you need to do. Schedule meetings if you need to." Though I gave such answer, I already secretly placed the self-preservation spells and temperature regulation spells in the dining area already. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
We went further inside the building where all the cooking and the service happens. The kitchen has the basic things you need to make it functional: stoves, pots and pans, other utensils, ingredients and people. As to the overall quality of the place and the cooking necessities, it was below average.
I looked at Andreas and whispered, "Am I allowed to inspect inside the kitchen and the storage facilities? I also want to hear exactly from the kitchen manager what they need." He nodded at me immediately.
We went inside the kitchen that was currently buzzing with activity since they are already preparing for lunch. All the personnel here are from the military as well, from the head cook to the assistants. The people in the kitchen, upon seeing Colonel Andreas, paused whatever they are doing, walked nearer towards us then made a proper salute. The attendants then ran back to their stations to continue the meal preparation. Only the head cook stayed standing in front of us.
Colonel Andreas simply introduced me as the envoy that was here for inspection. The head cook nodded to me once then started giving orders to his assistants since he has to accompany me for now. Out of the blue, I asked, "What is your menu for lunch today?" which made the head cook widen his eyes as he perhaps did not expect this to be my first question.
He replied, "We are making some freshly baked bread. We are preparing some forest mushroom soup, grilled meat and some stir fried vegetables." I nodded my head and asked, "Would it be okay to add some fresh fruit as dessert on your menu?"
The head cook smiled helplessly and replied, "We would love to but it is impossible to get any fruit in these parts." I looked at him and responded, "No. I am telling you to add it to the menu and I would provide the ingredients. Can I also help around the kitchen for a bit so we can finish lunch preparations quickly?"
