Inheriting a Lost Bloodline, My First Task is to have heirs?!-Chapter 419 - Rebuilding the Larkspur Territory (Part 1)
Chapter 419: Chapter 419 - Rebuilding the Larkspur Territory (Part 1)
I stared into my father-in-law’s eyes for several seconds before I gave him a helpless smile. He really loved his son and losing him must have halved his reason for living. I insisted my point of view by saying, "I have to rebuild Larkspur, at least your main household and that of your loyal attendants. It will be my gift to somebody extremely important to me. As to who that is, I will let you know in the near future."
My father-in-law’s eyes showed genuine surprise as he murmured and looked down, "A gift for someone important..." He then slowly looked up and responded, "Whoever that may be, I should be very thankful to him or her since it will mean that my people will have better living conditions as well."
I nodded my head and with a smile, I responded, "I will rebuild your home the way it was before so I would need your help on that. I will rebuild the market area and the houses of those who are presently living in this settlement. For those that will come to live here afterwards, they will have to build their own homes. I have other tasks I have to complete here besides building some housing so I apologize if I can’t do everything."
He looked at me in disbelief but he still asked formally as the leader of the territory, "We will never demand for anything more from you, Ms. Luna. As the leader of this small group of people, is it alright if you tell me what are your specific plans for this territory? Do the royals in the capital know about the changes you will do here?"
I smiled sincerely and assured him that everything I will be doing during my trip to the north as an envoy has received permission and I also send detailed reports regularly back to the palace. I have also told him that I have already passed several territories before coming here like Rigden, Ersha and Bragen wherein I resolved some of their issues. I also shared freely that my final stop was actually the military camps up north to deliver supplies and do some volunteer work as a physician.
As soon as he heard that my trip is as official as it can get, I started to see some hope and excitement from my father-in-law’s eyes. He hurriedly welcomed me inside one of the quaint huts which is his current home to discuss more important matters.
Inside the hut, together with his trusted aides, they gave me a copy of the building plan of the previous mansion that the Duke of Larkspur had. He also gave me the original plan of the whole territory when it was first built so I know where the key places used to be in.
In front of everyone, I used a spell to make a virtual copy of the plans which caused a huge commotion. The only thing my father-in-law could say was, "You are a mage connected to the tower too?"
I shook my head and replied, "I do odd jobs from the tower for money but I am not part of their organization. I am just a student, currently on my second year in the Academe of Gnosis."
Another aide said, "You mentioned that you are also a royal envoy and a doctor on top of that, a student from a prestigious school. You are a woman of many talents! Your household will never go hungry." The other aides and attendants chorused in agreement.
I bowed to all of them and gave my thanks. I also told them that I always wanted to have a big family with a lot of children so I am working on making sure that I can provide them with everything they need. The people around me gave me their sweet smiles while nodding their heads in approval.
I coughed in embarrassment and continued with our main topic. I asked the duke if he wants to change anything in particular and with a heavy tone, he replied, "I want to do something with that waterfall and the lake underneath it that has grown larger after the incident before. I don’t want a repeat of the tragedy decades ago. We have done our best to plant as many trees as we can on the mountain so that something will hold the soil and excess water during the rainy seasons."
I praised them for the preventive measures that they have put in place. I also noticed a 2-meter fence of stones that they placed around the lake for added protection. I looked up and admired the lush trees above the waterfall as well.
I asked about the tragedy decades ago and it seems like that the duke chose this place knowing the risks. They just never thought that the water and mud which commonly comes down from the mountains to be mixed with large stones, tree logs and other debris. The amount of water was also not normal and when they inspected the top of the mountain after the tragedy, it seems that more than 50% of the trees were gone. This explains the amount of water mixed with tree logs that ravished that territory that fateful day years ago.
He also shared some fortunate news for me. It seems that most of the villagers escaped the tragedy due to their timely preparations. The people have moved to higher ground away from the waterfall and lake in advance. The only ones counted as missing are the three children that was in the hut that was hit by the water. Those children include the first born son of the duke, and two other children, one 2-year old boy and one newborn girl which were part of the families of the duke’s guards.
I encouraged them and gave a hint that there may be a chance that the children have been rescued and that they may be living some place else. This is the best that I could say for now because I only know the whereabout of the 2 boys but not the newborn girl. I may have to check with the academe headmaster if they have this information.
After the discussion of the history of the territory, I then asked them a question that ended up baffling everyone present, "What if I tell you that I have a way to let you access your previous homes for a limited amount of time, would you like to retrieve any of your precious belongings?" freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
