Infinite System Inheritor Return From The Abyss-Chapter 421 - 419: Cleaning is over
Outside stood several professors, all wearing their long coats with glowing academy badges on their shoulders. Their expressions were stiff, some serious, some cold. One of them stepped forward, looking straight at her.
"Who are you?" the first professor asked.
Another professor leaned forward, looking confused. "Where's Professor Jihoon?"
"We are here to check the progress," one of the older professors said coldly.
Another one stepped forward. "Professor Jihoon was given a condition, was he not? Gather ten students. If not, his position is removed. So who are you?"
Nymira didn't blink. She bowed her head slightly, "I am Nymira. The ninth student of Professor Jihoon."
The professors stared at her. "Ninth student?" one of them repeated.
Another took out a hologram scroll and tapped it. A glowing list floated in front of them. They stared at it, then murmured softly, "A new student... recently registered...He had nine already?"
"Why didn't the system update this earlier?"
One of the professors, an older man with a trimmed beard, crossed his arms. "We asked a question. Where is Professor Jihoon?"
Nymira nodded slightly. "Professor Jihoon left the academy yesterday morning. He went to take care of something important."
Another professor, a woman with sharp eyes, narrowed her gaze. "He left? Without a word?"
"He said he would return before the day ends," Nymira added. "You don't need to worry—he will be here."
But the professors clearly didn't believe her.
"So that's it?" one of them snapped. "He ran away?"
"Is he backing down now?" another shouted. "He made a promise. Gather ten students. That was the condition."
A third professor looked at the others and frowned. "If he's not here, it means he gave up. He failed."
One professor gritted his teeth. "Typical. We gave him a chance, and he runs off without even showing up."
Nymira's eyes turned sharp. "He is not the type to run."
"Then where is he?" one of them snapped.
"He's coming back," she repeated calmly. "You'll see."
But their faces were filled with doubt and growing anger. Murmurs spread among them. Nymira stood firmly at the academy gate, her face calm even as the professors continued to question her.
"He will come back," she said clearly, her tone sharp and steady. "You can wait here if you want."
The professors exchanged glances, some frowning, some folding their arms in frustration.
"Tch. Fine. We'll wait," one of them muttered.
But just as they took a step forward, planning to enter the building grounds, a deep clanking sound echoed from the gate. The metal bars of the academy gate slid shut with a heavy clang, locking them out.
"What?!"
"Hey—open the gate!"
"Are you kidding?!"
"Why does he even have his own place?!"
Several voices burst out at once, some confused, others angry. A few started banging on the gate.
"Wait outside," she muttered quietly, then turned around and walked away, behind her as her hidden tails appeared and ears. She could still hear their voices arguing behind her, but she paid no mind to any of them.
As she returned to the front of the main building, the students inside were already watching her.
Nayoung was leaning near the window, eyes wide with curiosity, while Elshienne peeked from behind a curtain along with Hannah, Minseok, Yoora and Jinhyu. Sion and Nathan were at the stairs, listening quietly.
But the moment they saw Nymira walking back calmly, they all jolted and scrambled back to their cleaning positions like nothing had happened.
Nayoung grabbed a broom and started sweeping fast.
Elshienne quickly returned to scrubbing the corner of the floor.
Sion and Nathan returned to polishing the handrails, though their eyes secretly watched Nymira from the side.
Nymira sighed, brushing some dust off her gloves as she looked at the building. "…This place better be clean before he returns," she whispered,
Elshienne nodded. "Yeah. They said ten students. Nine so far…"
"But where is Professor Jihoon?" Yoora frowned. "He didn't come back yesterday."
"They're trying to make him fail, right?" Minseok said from the corner, dragging a mop across the floor. "If he doesn't show up today, they'll say he broke the deal."
"They can't!" Nayoung stood up, raising her broom like a sword. "Professor Jihoon doesn't run away. I know he'll show up!"
Nathan didn't say anything, just kept wiping the shelves in silence, while Sion beside him scrubbed harder, clearly trying to work faster than Nathan.
The quiet cleaning competition between the two had resumed without a word being spoken.
At the door, Sui popped her head out from Nathan's shoulder and yawned.
"Kyuu~ They better come back soon… I wanna see Mr. Jihoon's face when he sees the shiny floors. Kyuu~"
Time passed slowly.
After hours of cleaning, they were finally done, and the whole building was now clean from the top to the bottom, with floors that shone under the light and windows so clear you could almost think there was no glass at all.
Nymira stood in front of them with her arms crossed and her long hair swaying slightly in the soft wind as she looked at each of them.
"There will be no training for today," she said clearly, "go rest and recover your strength."
Then without saying anything else, she turned around and walked into the building, her nine tails and white ears hidden for now, but she knew they would soon appear again since she could only hide them for three minutes at most.
As soon as Nymira was out of sight, they all lay down on the grass of the training field, some groaning from the effort while others simply enjoyed the cool breeze brushing their skin after so much work.
Nayoung, who always seemed to have too much energy even after cleaning all day, sat up with a grin on her face and clapped her hands once.
"I'm starving!" she said loudly, stretching her arms above her head with a happy sigh. "Let's go get food! Oh wait! I'll go get us food! You guys stay here!"
She stood up quickly, brushed the grass off her clothes, and ran toward the main gate without waiting for anyone to stop her.
"Wait, Nayoung, you don't have to go alone!" Minseok called after her standing up, but she didn't even look back.
"I'm coming with her," Hannah said, already getting up and jogging to catch up to Nayoung.
The two girls reached the tall main gate together, and Nayoung, still cheerful, reached out with both hands and pulled it open.
But when the gate slowly opened with a heavy sound, what she saw made her stop in surprise.
There was a man standing right outside the gate, tall and serious-looking, with black hair neatly combed, wearing a long black coat that looked like it belonged to someone important, and round glasses that gave him a calm, cold look.
His expression didn't change when he saw them, and he simply stared at the two girls like he had been waiting for them.
