Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix-Chapter 962: Lawless
After calming down for a bit, Rain had the idea of creating a magic circle that would drain the mana in the area, that would free everyone eventually. Rain didn't have any use for that mana yet, so he made the circle only to absorb the mana inside, but along the way, he had the idea to use the mana as well to heal everyone inside and then he expanded it.
Little by little, Rain was able to start to sense the presence of those around him, so he worked hard to free his family first since he also had to check things on the second group. In that sense, the ominous sword helped him a lot… it didn't take long for him to finally be able to see Terra, Danny and Annie… They looked fine since their healing skills were unrivaled.
However, they were still unconscious.
"It seems that the ice shut down their senses completely…" Larisa said. "It acted almost like a curse to seal their bodies and souls… I am sensing some mana here, and it is coming from that relic that you created to talk with the second group."
"It must be Isa… I am surprised that the thing is still working," Rain said while he started to look for Liss.
Eventually, Rain found everyone that he truly cared for, and while the others were showing some signs of improvement, he couldn't help everyone by himself. He had to count on them to help him solve the situation… Before long, Rain recovered the relic and then received the message from Isa.
"Rain. We succeeded in our battle against the ice dragons, but the victory came at a cost. I managed to escape their devastating attack, but many of the sea folk were engulfed in the ice. They're struggling—they've become ice statues and are in dire need of help. The sea folk aren't equipped to handle such extreme cold.
It's a precarious situation here, and I fear we lack the necessary expertise to break this curse. I'm reaching out in hopes that your group can provide aid. We've won, but the aftermath has left us in a desperate state. Please, Rain, we need your help."
"I can't imagine why she sent the message to me when she didn't know the result of the fight…" Rain said. "Still, she must be panicking since she didn't know what to do when I know what to do thanks to her help."
In the end, Rain sent his reply and also had another idea… he used all the mana around to change the domain as well and raise the temperature with some firewalls around. At the same time, Rain expanded his domain to check everyone in his mental landscape… just like the relics that didn't have any will, Rain found everyone there, but they showed some signs of liveness in their eyes.
"I have to tell her this as well… we have to regroup where Grandpa and Grandma are," Rain thought while looking around and confirming that the first platform was destroyed in the battle. "I can never catch a break…"
After a grueling week of relentless hard work, Rain and Isa managed to transport everyone back to their temporary headquarters. The atmosphere was a mix of relief and apprehension as they settled in.
Rain's family and friends, previously encased in ice, showed promising signs of recovery. They were in a deep slumber, but gradual improvements indicated that they would awaken within a few days. This development brought a sense of cautious optimism and a glimmer of hope in the wake of the recent turmoil.
However, as the ice melted away, it revealed the grim reality of the losses suffered during the intense battle. The frozen figures that thawed out were not all fortunate enough to survive. The freezing temperatures had been ruthlessly unforgiving, instantly claiming the lives of many individuals before Rain and Isa could intervene.
The devastating sight of those who didn't make it was a stark reminder of the unforgiving nature of their recent battle. Despite their best efforts, some had succumbed to the extreme cold, unable to withstand the ferocity of the ice dragons' attacks. The loss weighed heavily on everyone, casting a somber pall over the makeshift headquarters.
"... It looks like we lost half of our forces," Isa said once she finished counting all the unconscious survivors. "We are able to look after them, but the people that were left here are overworking themselves."
"We can't do anything else," Rain shook his head. "I used my magic to give the necessary nutrients to make my family and friends recover faster, but it isn't working. The ice magic of the dragons froze even their spirits. They are recovering, but there is nothing else we can do."
"I know, but I am still worried… roots that can spawn dragons, a dead tree that was alive and left the planet," Isa said while rubbing her eyes. "We still had a lot to learn, but we need the help of the people here… we can't reach the island by ourselves, even though the weather is improving."
"We can at least feel a bit relieved knowing that we solved the biggest problem… otherwise, we would have been forced to escape… to beyond the planet?" Meiro asked when he arrived in the tent. "I still find that hard to imagine."
"We are looking after everyone, Rain," Luana said as she followed after Meiro. "You two need to decide our next steps, and the others will need something to do when they wake up. Otherwise, they will feel like we wasted a lot of time thanks to them."

"Right… I guess it is time to keep moving, the enemies will make their next moves eventually as well," Rain said while rubbing his eyes. "I will just gather some intel for now, and then I will have some ideas tomorrow."
Rain retreated to his mental landscape, but Isa soon followed him… it looked like his mind was a lawless land now.
