Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix-Chapter 1144: Rising tension
The sudden beam of light piercing through the yellow and gray planet sent shockwaves through the group. As they observed this unexpected event, a collective gasp escaped their lips, and their eyes widened in surprise and disbelief. The members of Rain's group, accustomed to facing various challenges and threats, were momentarily taken aback by the unexpected turn of events.
Slowly but surely, the planet began to change… the color of the place began to change from yellow to orange, and even from afar, they could see the whole place shaking and trembling.
"We need to get them!" Terra shouted.
"... It is too late," Sakaki said. "Full speed to the vessel. We aren't out of the danger."
"Headquarters, prepare to leave the area immediately. We will be bombarded by a massive storm of the debris of that planet," Rain said.
While everyone was completely shocked by what happened and the transformation of that planet, Rain said those words and sped up the return to the vessel. He also wanted to focus the mana being used for camouflage to be used for speed, but that was too risky… in the end… he just decreased the size of the domain and made everyone get clustered as he increased the speed of the return.
Before long, the yellow planet turned red, and numerous cracks appeared on it… several parts began to explode as the planet was about to reach its end. When they were only a couple of seconds as well, the planet finally exploded…
The entire planet erupted in a cataclysmic explosion. The shockwave expanded rapidly, sending shockwaves through the void of space. The once-stable celestial body was fractured into countless pieces, creating a dazzling display of debris and fragments that scattered in all directions.
The explosion was a cosmic spectacle, a violent release of energy that left behind a trail of destruction. The group could only witness the celestial destruction, their expressions a mix of shock, horror, and disbelief. The yellow and gray planet, once a landmark in their interstellar journey, was now reduced to cosmic debris…
When they reached the vessel, massive debris began to hit them… the entire vessel began to tremble thanks to the impacts. Whoever was controlling the vessel during that time tried to avoid as much debris as possible. Still, the massive rain of debris made the entire vessel shake for several minutes… they could only focus on dodging the small ones.
As the vessel moved away from the once had been a planet, the number of impacts decreased more and more. The vessel didn't suffer that much damage since they had some extra mana for that kind of situation. Still, everyone looked pale as ghosts when they landed… perhaps their home planet will have the same end.
As the remnants of the explosion dissipated into the vastness of space, the group was left to grapple with the profound implications of what they had just witnessed. The mysterious beam of light had triggered an event that defied their understanding of celestial phenomena, leaving them with more questions than answers.
The idea that the same thing could happen to Earth while they were away made them feel their stomachs turning and getting colder and colder… all the history, life, and characteristics of a planet were completely erased and could never be recovered… and if they had been ten minutes slower, they would have been erased as well.
"Rain, you need to take control over the movements of the vessel again," Roan declared. "We will talk with the others about our next steps… you also should try to see where the attack came from."
"Understood," Rain said.
In situations like that, it was better to move and keep themselves busy instead of doing nothing and worrying endlessly about the things that they didn't know. With that in mind, they began to move… but soon they came to a stop when everyone suddenly was pushed to the left side, and the vessel trembled… several houses cracked, and others fell when the warriors hit them.
Rain barely had the time to do anything, and he almost smashed against a random building… Still, he could tell what had happened. The vessel suddenly stopped. Before long, it suddenly began to move again… toward the direction everyone moved.
"Shit… this isn't good," Rain said and then dashed toward the control room.
The group had planned to report things to the leaders of the factions, but soon, they found themselves heading to Rain's home and the control room… they needed to understand what was going on and soon found Rain trying to control the movements of the vessel at the core of the place, but he was unable to do anything.
"What happened?" Sears asked.
"... We are being pulled in the same direction the cargo disappeared from," Rain replied after taking a deep breath. "The same direction the attack came from."
"It looks like they found out our location judging them by the position of the debris that hit us," Sakaki said. "Now they are pulling us with enough force that we can't do a single thing to fight back. They can control gravity freely, at unknown distances."
"The good thing about this is the fact that they could attack us as soon as they stopped our movements, but they aren't doing that, so they want us alive," Rain said. "We don't have to worry about their planet destroying cannon, and we have some time to think of a solution for this mess."
"How much time do we have?" Roan asked.
"It is hard to say; they can harness gravity, so we are moving a lot faster than before without feeling it," Rain said. "Still, we will probably reach that area in one week."
"We will have a meeting with the others and prepare for the next confrontation," Roan said. "Send a message if anything else happens."
Rain watched as the others left the control room, their expressions reflecting the gravity of the situation. Tension was clearly in the air, and the weight of the impending threat bore down on everyone. He had maintained a calm demeanor in front of the group, trying to instill a sense of confidence in them.
However, as the room emptied and he was left alone with the relics, the facade dropped, and beads of cold sweat formed on his forehead.
