Chapter 137: Elith

That voice was a little clear, yet it made anyone who heard it feel that it was not a human voice.

The dust haze dispersed, and a bizarre figure appeared before them.

A gigantic spider, no, to be precise, a woman whose lower body was a spider, while her upper body was human. Countless strands of silk covered her, forming a skintight layer over her body.

Sunny seemed to ignore what she said and drew his bow again.

Rover hurriedly spoke up, "Wait!"

Sunny frowned. "Rover, don’t let her looks fool you. I’ve met plenty of monsters with beautiful appearances but vicious natures. They’re just trying to trick you."

Rover said softly, "Hold on a bit. I want to ask her a few questions."

Sunny glanced at Rover, then nodded, but his arrow still pointed straight at the woman.

Rover looked at her. She really was beautiful. Short purple hair, a scorching-hot upper body, an enormous chest, and what was especially striking was that she had extra eyes on her forehead.

Her lower body was that of a spider, but it was different from the monster he had seen at the asylum during the last mission.

Her spider body was beautiful, like a work of art from nature itself, rich with an artistic sense. On that glossy black carapace were also flowing patterns.

He frowned. "Do you have a name?"

The woman pressed her lips together, anxiety on her face. She looked at Selina, then at Sunny, and finally at Rover. "I... my name is Elith."

"Elith, are you the Spider Queen?"

Hearing Rover’s question, Elith hesitated, her face carrying a hint of embarrassment. She said softly, "That... it’s true, but it’s also not true."

"Hm?!" Rover’s brows tightened slightly.

"Master! Don’t waste words with her." Selina laughed. "Just kill her. Anyway, she doesn’t have a human lower body, so she can’t be Master’s sex toy."

Rover: "..."

Elith: "..."

Sunny: "Oy! I’m still here. I’m not dead yet!"

Rover pinched the bridge of his nose. "Calm down, all of you. I’m being very serious."

Elith asked fearfully, "Y-you... you want me to be your sex toy? That’s not impossible. I still have places you can use to satisfy yourself..."

Rover: "..."

Selina said with disdain, "You think Master would stick it into a hole that isn’t human? You’re underestimating my Master. But your boobs and your mouth look good. Those can be used."

Rover: "..."

Elith covered her chest with both hands, shrinking back slightly as she said shyly, "That... that’s fine, but I don’t know what I’m supposed to do."

"Don’t worry." Selina waved a hand. "I can teach you."

"That’s enough!" Rover barked. Both Elith and Selina fell silent. He pinched the bridge of his nose again. "Can you be serious for once?"

"Elith, speak clearly. Are you the Spider Queen or not? If you lie, I can chop off all your legs and hang you from the ceiling."

Elith shivered, pressed her lips together, then said, "I... I’m actually a Survivor. I used to live in this apartment complex."

Rover and Sunny both jolted. They looked at each other, then back at Elith, wanting to hear what she would say next.

Elith continued, "Back then, I defended up to round four, but because I lacked resources, my door was about to be broken. I decided to go out and become a Tenant, to find a safe place to hide."

"But the Survivors who were still alive at the time couldn’t take me in, because they were exhausted too. Luckily, I found a hidden mission..."

Sunny frowned. "This mission?"

"That’s right." Elith said. "An entrance in the basement of this building. I cooperated with many others to enter, but the labyrinth was too complex. In the end, only me and two others survived to reach this place."

"Back then, I found the Spider Queen, but..."

Rover frowned. "What happened?"

"That..." Elith glanced at everyone, then continued, "If you want to find her, I can lead you there."

Rover frowned, but his Intuition told him she wasn’t lying, and he didn’t feel any unease.

He looked at Sunny and said in a low voice, "I think I’ll go with her."

Sunny stroked his chin and looked at Elith as if trying to use his "luck" talent to confirm it one more time.

After a moment, he nodded. "I’ll go with you. I also feel like nothing dangerous will happen."

They both nodded. Selina did not interrupt, because she only had one mission: protect Rover.

As for everything else, whatever decision he made, she wouldn’t interfere.

Elith then tried to stand, but one of her legs had been injured by Sunny’s arrow. She walked weakly, as if she might fall at any moment.

Rover sighed, raised a hand, and a layer of crystal formed around Elith’s wound, like shards of glass, helping her leg joint reconnect seamlessly.

Elith jolted and looked at Rover.

"Don’t look at me." Rover waved it off like it didn’t matter. "If you walk too slow, it’ll affect my mission completion speed."

But Elith still looked at him with admiration and gratitude. Indeed, she moved more steadily now, quickly leading them along the main road.

Rover realized this place was truly enormous, like a miniature underground city. Around them were still the remains of houses, though only scraps of ruins remained.

The only thing that still existed was this road, the pillars propping up the cavern, and the pyramid in front of them.

Elith led them to the pyramid’s entrance.

It was a stone gate covered in countless strange carvings, but the most striking image was the twelve-legged spider at the center.

The two doors were closed, each side holding half of that spider, and on the spider’s body there was a small hole, as if meant to insert something.

Elith took out a gem and explained as she placed it into the hole. "This is the key to open the gate. After becoming the Spider Queen, I learned quite a few secrets, but not all of them."

Crack!

The two doors opened, revealing a vast corridor, but unlike what everyone expected, it wasn’t dark or made only of stone.

It was a corridor steeped in sci-fi vibes. There were shadowless lights everywhere, like surgical lamps. The walls looked like panels of metal cut by high technology, flawless to an extreme.

"Let’s go." Elith said.

She led the way inside.

Rover and Sunny didn’t sense any danger, so they followed behind her.

"This place looks like a spaceship from sci-fi movies, doesn’t it?" Elith said.

Sunny nodded. "Yeah. It’s amazing. Did the Spider Queen build this? No, maybe the residents of this world built it to imprison the Spider Queen. Am I right?"

Elith smiled. "I don’t know either. I can’t guess what happened. If you figure it out after seeing everything, you can tell me."

Rover felt Elith was a bit airheaded. He smiled and asked, "How long have you been here?"

As she walked, Elith tapped her chin like she was thinking. "I don’t know either. I only know I’ve been here through two extinctions of this apartment complex."

"Two extinctions?" Rover frowned, confused.

"That’s right." Elith said. "Every time all the Survivors in the complex die, I call it an extinction of the complex. If you count the wave I was in, I’ve gone through two extinctions. You’re the third wave."

Rover was genuinely surprised. He hadn’t expected so many Survivors had come to this world before him.

Elith continued, "The first wave was when I was still alive. We held out to round five. The second wave died out completely by round four. And you are the third wave. You’ve already cleared round two now, right?"

"That’s right." Rover replied. "But... did the previous Survivors really all die?"

"Not exactly." Elith explained. "Some chose to become wild Survivors. They didn’t want to defend inside those rooms anymore. Some got strong enough to establish their own territories. I only know the locations of a few." 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

Rover, from that, could roughly guess that as monsters grew stronger and stronger, they could no longer defend inside their rooms and had changed their survival method instead.

If they established a territory, would that mean the monsters of this world would stop attacking them?

He decided to ask, "Those who established their own territories, do they still get attacked by monsters?"

Elith pressed her lips together. After a moment, she said, "Hm... in truth, they still can’t escape the game. They still have to defend their territory. It’s just that the number of monsters is much smaller."

"Maybe because they’re independent Survivors, the number and strength of monsters isn’t large. Their lives aren’t easy, but at least they can keep surviving."

"Among the Survivors I’ve watched, a few found the coastline and found a ship, then went out to sea. But I don’t know where they went, whether they escaped this world or... "

Even though she didn’t finish, Rover, Sunny, and Selina all understood their likely fate.

Rover asked, "Out at sea, is it covered in fog too?"

"There’s still fog." Elith said. "Fog is everywhere, and the sea has turned blood-red. I didn’t dare investigate further, because whenever I got close to the sea, it was like a warning sounded in my head, forbidding me from going near."

Rover drew a deep breath, feeling like this area might only be the newbie map, while the ocean was the real main map.

He frowned and asked, "Have you ever seen any monsters out at sea?"

"Hm..." Elith said. "You might think I’m lying, but I really did see a gigantic bird."

"A gigantic bird?" Rover asked, confused.

"That’s right." Elith spread her arms wide, describing its enormity as she spoke. "Huge. So huge that I saw its shadow cover an entire vast area. It flew past here, then headed out to the sea and disappeared. After that, I never saw it again."
