Immortal Mythos Awakening-Chapter 66: Trial of Spirit - The Echoes Within
Chapter 66 - 66: Trial of Spirit - The Echoes Within
The sanctum's chamber was massive, with high curved ceilings and mirrors set into the walls. But not normal mirrors. They shimmered like pools of liquid memory.
Ashir stood before them, arms crossed, his aura calm but firm.
"Before you receive what you seek, you must be seen as you truly are," he said. "Not by me... but by yourselves."
With a gesture, the mirrors lit up—each one flickering to life and pulling a different member forward.
Yuki's Reflection:
He stepped into a mirror alone, and found himself... back in the burning remnants of his childhood village.
But it wasn't real.
His younger self was there—innocent, unaware, asking one question over and over:
"Why didn't you save them?"
He clenched his fists. "Because I didn't know what I was. I didn't want to be this."
The younger Yuki looked up, eyes filled with flames. "Then why do you still carry that power?"
Yuki didn't flinch. "Because I have to."
Behind him, Kairo appeared silently. He didn't speak, just stood... proud.
The mirror shattered, and Yuki stepped forward—stronger.
Ren's Trial:
Inside his mirror, Ren stood before an older Tengu warrior—his mentor.
"You've grown weak," the mentor barked. "You let your heart guide your sword."
Ren's jaw clenched. "Maybe that's not weakness anymore."
The wind whipped around him, and he raised Jinrai.
"I am no longer a weapon. I'm the wind that chooses who to protect."
Thunder cracked. The vision bowed in respect. Ren passed.
Haru's Trial:
His trial wasn't silent—it was chaotic.
He stood in the middle of a crumbling temple, surrounded by versions of himself—each one with different regrets.
"You'll never be enough."
"You're just a shadow of Yuki."
"You weren't strong enough to protect Himari."
He let them all speak. Then he took a breath.
And laughed.
"I'm me, damn it. And I'll keep getting stronger—not to be better than them, but to be enough for myself."
He punched the ground, shattering the voices into smoke.
Aiko's Trial:
She stood in a peaceful field, her mother's spirit gently tending flowers. Aiko's hands trembled.
"Why did you leave me alone?"
Her mother smiled sadly. "So you could grow into someone I'd be proud of."
Aiko collapsed, weeping—then stood.
"I'll carry your memory, not your pain."
She turned from the vision, her aura glowing with clarity.
Kai's Trial:
He appeared in a dark kitchen, endless flames roasting invisible food.
He laughed nervously. "This again?"
From the shadows came a younger Kai, scared and crying. "I can't protect anyone..."
Kai knelt. "You don't have to anymore. That's my job now."
He handed his younger self a tiny wooden spoon—an offering of peace.
The vision faded.
Himari's Trial:
She faced a version of herself... one wrapped in chains of light.
"You're hiding the truth," it whispered. "From them, from yourself."
"I have to," Himari said, shaking. "They're not ready, Are you?"
She didn't answer.
Instead, she touched the chains... and they broke.
The vision smiled and vanished.
Ashir watched as they all emerged, changed.
He nodded slowly. "You passed. You've met your spirits... now meet your weapons."
