I'm Trying To Go Broke, So Why Do I Keep Getting Richer?!-Chapter 217: They better not
He looked back at the entrance of the dungeon which looked no different than an ordinary cave.
He shifted his attention back to the scenery before him, still as astonished as before.
If the constant throbbing pain wasn’t there in his leg, he would have wondered if he was dreaming or something.
He had fallen off a cliff on a frozen planet. He ended up falling straight inside a dungeon.
Now that he came out, he couldn’t catch even a glimpse of that frozen hell.
"How long was I there? Did all the snow melt already?" He wondered for a moment before shaking his head off.
Even if time flowed differently inside the cave, how could the world outside change so much?
If he had his storage ring, he could have at least used a communicator to contact others, but even that was impossible now.
All he had was a classic watch on his wrist. It wasn’t even an advanced digital watch, but an ordinary analogue watch.
"If I knew something like this was going to happen, I would’ve bought a better watch. No wait, if I knew something like this was going to happen, why would I even fall into this trap?"
Leo scratched the back of his head.
"Then again, I’m sure after they fail to contact me, they will eventually realize that something is wrong. Even if I was sneaky, they should still be able to find a few traces of my ship. It should lead them to the frozen planet."
At this point, he didn’t know how to return. The only way to return looked to be through the dungeon which somehow connected this place to the frozen wasteland.
Unfortunately, after facing those beasts, Leo didn’t have the courage to enter that place again. At least not before his leg was healed.
"It’s fine. Even if I wait, Alpha Corp will eventually discover my traces of the frozen planet. If they have even a single brain cell, they would interrogate those strange humans and find out about this portal."
He looked back at the cave entrance with a hopeful glance.
Alpha Corp had developed into a decent powerhouse under him. They not only had monetary power but also military and political power.
They could easily form a team of powerful warriors to enter the portal and find him. If they could bring Blaze and the others, it might even be better since war ships couldn’t fit the portal.
"They will find me, right?"
Although he had hoped for the best, he was still a little uncertain. How long was it going to take?
Could he survive that long in this world when he didn’t even know what kind of world it was? For now, he didn’t know anything about this world.
He wasn’t even sure if anyone would actually arrive to find him, or if Trent and the others would just let him be, thinking he would eventually return.
Even though he trusted his subordinates, there was always that small chance that they might not even try to find him, just enjoying the luxury of what he had built.
"If you don’t come to find me soon, and I manage to return, I will definitely break a few of your bones at least."
He pushed his body up again, and started walking away from the cavern, albeit after carefully marking the location against the sun’s direction so that he could find his way back to this place when he was prepared. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
"I hope that this isn’t a cannibal planet at least. As long as there are humans here, they should be able to help me with some first aid."
He limped forward, getting accustomed to the pain.
The adrenaline that had fueled Leo’s escape from the dungeon was starting to run out.
The beauty of this new world quickly became a verdant hell.
The surroundings weren’t hot. He even had some tall trees around him that provided him a little shade as he walked through a forest.
Still, his throat felt as though he had swallowed a handful of dry sand. Every time he tried to swallow, it was getting painful.
Water. Just a stream. A puddle. Anything.
He dragged his right leg, the makeshift bandage now stiff with his dried blood.
He was in a forest so he was certain that there must be water nearby. How else could the forest grow?
Leo used a sturdy branch as a crutch, leaning his weight into the wood until it creaked. He followed the natural slope of the land, reasoning that water would eventually settle in the lowlands.
His vision began to play tricks on him. The shadows of the massive, twisting trees seemed to lengthen into the scythe-like limbs of the dungeon stalkers. The rustle of wind through the broad leaves sounded like the commands of the leader who had shot him.
"Focus," he exclaimed, clapping his face between his palms.
He reached a small clearing where the moss was particularly thick. He fell to his knees, his good leg finally giving out. He tried to dig into the earth with his fingernails, hoping to find damp soil, but the ground was full of old tangled roots.
The world began to tilt. The vibrant green of the surroundings bled into a hazy grey. Leo slumped forward, his cheek pressing against the cool, damp moss.
He reached out one hand, his fingers brushing against his analogue watch. The steady tick-tick-tick was the last thing he heard before his consciousness flickered and died like a spent candle.
As Leo passed out from thirst and heavy blood loss, translucent insects returned to their feast, and a soft breeze stirred the torn fabric of Leo’s jacket.
In the silence, trees around Leo started moving again. However, this wasn’t because of the winds. The branches of trees were moving on their own, like legs that were reaching out towards Leo.
It was like a poisonous snake, slowly crawling over to him. Before long, a vine wrapped itself around his legs, as if ensuring that he couldn’t escape.
Meanwhile, a sharp branch aimed for his next with the pointed end like that of a spear.
