I'm Trying To Go Broke, So Why Do I Keep Getting Richer?!-Chapter 195: An Apology
The observers hadn’t moved since the beginning. They were merely spectators to a grand event.
Even when Fiona’s army was being blown apart from within, they hadn’t made a move. But now, something had changed.
They had approved a sanctuary request, as even that didn’t want Fiona to lose her life. If she had won, it would’ve helped them recover their losses. But now that she had lost, she had to make up for it.
If she died, then wasn’t it no different than escaping responsibility. They couldn’t let her die.
Fiona didn’t realize that the observers didn’t really have pity for her. They simply looked at her like an investment that couldn’t be lost.
Just like that, the spectators had started moving. They also delivered a message to the Hero Tower, asking them to halt.
"This shall be a ceasefire in this battle. Anyone that breaks the ceasefire, will be punished..."
The same message was delivered to everyone, including the Alpha Corp fleet, and the Hero Tower’s ships that had surrounded Fiona.
At the same time, a spectator ship also moved closer to pick up Fiona.
"They didn’t interfere when we were about to be attacked. But now that we have won, they want to end everything like nothing happened?"
Blaze clenched his fist, watching Fiona’s ship right before her eyes. She was within his reach, yet things had become complicated.
"Are we really going to let her go?"
Many heroes had the look of disappointment in their faces as they looked at Blaze.
Meanwhile, Fiona was feeling extremely relieved. Even though she had lost a lot, at least she was going to survive. As long as she didn’t lose her life, nothing else mattered.
Moreover, she still knew Leo’s secret, that she could sell to the Elven Empire, and gain a lot. Even now, she hasn’t lost everything. She was still thinking of steps to take in the future.
With the declaration of ceasefire, Fiona also thanked the observers. Her ship started moving again, going past the Hero Tower’s ships.
The main ship of the Hero Tower had its door open, and Blaze was standing there, watching Fiona move past him. His hands were clenched behind his back.
Was this the fate of a new middle tier planet? Even after winning a war, they couldn’t properly have their revenge?
He felt a strong urge to just fly out, punch through the glass of Fiona’s ship, grab her collar and pull her out. Unfortunately, he could only hold that anger down.
....
Leo was standing in the command room of his ship, in a faraway galaxy.
He was watching the events on the large screen, being connected to the fleet that had taken part in the battle.
He had clearly heard the declaration of the ceasefire, that was more like an order than a request.
He could also access the cameras of his fleet, and witness much more than the news channels were able to show.
He was watching Fiona’s escape ship fly past the Hero Tower’s blockade.
"After all this, you’re really going to let her go?" Yang asked, standing behind Leo.
"What do you think?" Leo asked in a composed manner. "Should I let her go?"
"If it was me, I wouldn’t be able to let her go. Even if the world was to call me a devil, I would have killed her."
Yang came from the world of godlike martial arts. It was a more mediaeval world where strength reigned supreme, and grudges were resolved only with blood.
He couldn’t understand the politics of the modern world, and the thousand considerations that people went through.
Leo simply nodded, without saying anything. Even he couldn’t accept letting her go free. Then again, was she really getting free? That was a question in itself.
Leo simply picked up the phone, and checked a new message that had arrived.
"As per your request, we have offered her a sanctuary. Don’t forget your promise to compensate us later..."
Leo smiled, and started typing a message, "As long as you follow the instructions, you’ll get a compensation beyond what was promised. You won’t be disappointed."
After pressing send, he kept the phone aside, and watched Fiona’s escape ship entering the larger ship of the observers that was closest to her.
And just like that, a war had more or less come to an end. Most of the Lionel Family Ships were destroyed. But what remained, were taken by the Alpha Corp, and made to land on earth.
Even the mother ship, that many expected to be destroyed, was only slightly damaged, as it was taken under control.
Even though it was a ceasefire under official terms, but in reality, it was a proper surrender. The winner had taken everything, except the life of Fiona.
Merely a few hours had passed, before an official declaration was made from the Alpha Corp.
As per the declaration, the new CEO of Alpha Corp, Reo Vanderlen, was going to come live in a few hours, and inform the public about what went down.
However, since he was in another galaxy, he wasn’t going to be accompanied by reporters. It was more or less a live broadcast to address the public.
A few hours later, just as promised, Leo came live. And he didn’t come live on a single platform, but almost all prominent channels, even if he had to pay a little bribe to those channels.
Earth, which had suffered through quite a few earthquakes because of this attack, was still preparing the repair and relief work when Leo came live.
Many people wondered what he was going to say at the start. Was he going to talk against the Lionel Family? Was he going to talk about the Watchdogs? Or was he going to demand compensation?
However, to many people’s surprise, the live feed started with Leo lowering his head.
"I would like to apologise to everyone, especially those from earth that had suffered because of this incident."
