I'm Trapped Inside a Prince as the Most Powerful Entity-Chapter 39: Reset The Cool down
Chapter 39: Reset The Cool down
As soon as Eric heard the System Window confirm, "Yes, Eric. I believe I can," regarding resetting Alina’s teleportation ability, he was stunned. The System could actually affect someone else’s powers? That seemed incredibly powerful. He felt a wave of confusion wash over him, but also a flicker of hope. If this worked, they could get to Crestport City instantly.
He turned back to Alina. "Wait!" Eric said, holding up a hand to stop her from walking away. "Hold on. I have an idea. A faster way to get there."
Alina stopped and turned around, looking surprised. She walked back towards him, tilting her head curiously. "Another plan?" she asked, folding her arms. "What now, Third Prince? Are we going to fly there?" She sounded slightly sarcastic, still not entirely convinced he knew what he was doing.
Eric ignored the sarcasm. "No," he said seriously. "We’re going to use your special ability. Your teleportation."
Alina immediately frowned, looking annoyed. "Didn’t you hear me?" she said impatiently. "I just told you I can only use it about once a week! And I used it just this morning to get inside the palace walls when the guards weren’t looking! It’s not ready again!"
Eric held up both his hands in a calming gesture. "Relax," he said, trying to sound confident even though he wasn’t entirely sure how this would work. "Just listen to me first, okay?"
Alina sighed dramatically but stopped tapping her foot. "Fine," she said, crossing her arms again. "Tell me what you want to tell me, Third Prince." She waited, looking at him expectantly.
Eric hesitated. He didn’t actually know how this was supposed to work. He quickly sent a thought inward. ’System Window? Okay, now what? What do I do? I have no idea how to handle this girl or this power!’
Inside Eric – Adam’s Domain
Adam sensed Eric’s uncertainty. This required a more direct approach, something beyond just giving advice through the System interface. He needed to channel a tiny bit of his own energy directly. ’Millenia,’ Adam instructed the System entity. ’Prepare to temporarily bypass one of the minor seals restricting my direct interaction through Eric’s right arm. Just enough for me to channel a small amount of energy. I’ll handle the control.’
[System/Millenia]: Acknowledged, Master Adam. Bypassing minor kinetic seal on Host Eric’s right brachial plexus. Proceed with caution; host vessel tolerance is still low.
The System interface flashed out of existence in Adam’s domain.
Back in the Garden
The blue System Window appeared instantly in front of Eric, who was now expecting it. Text appeared, giving him clear instructions.
[System]: Eric, please place your right hand on Alina’s shoulder. Then, try to relax your arm completely. Don’t try to control it or put any of your own energy into it. Just let it rest there.
Eric looked at the Alina. This felt incredibly weird. Just put his hand on her shoulder and relax?
Inside Eric – Adam’s Domain
Adam focused his intent. He extended his own non-physical ’hand’ within his domain, visualizing the connection through the temporarily bypassed seal in Eric’s arm. A soft, white light began to glow around Adam’s ethereal fingers.
Eric took a breath and did as the System instructed. He stepped closer to Alina and carefully placed his right hand flat on her shoulder. Alina looked down at his hand, then up at his face with a very confused expression.
"Uh... Your Highness?" she asked awkwardly. "What are you doing?"
Eric felt his cheeks flush slightly. ’I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing,’ he thought frantically. ’But the System told me to, so... something must be happening, right?’ He consciously tried to relax his right arm, letting all the tension drain out of it, stopping himself from flexing any muscles or trying to channel the natural energy he’d felt earlier. He just let his hand rest there.
The moment Eric relaxed his arm, Adam acted. The white light glowing around Adam’s hand in his domain intensified. That pure energy flowed through the connection, down Eric’s relaxed arm, and through his palm directly into Alina’s body where his hand rested on her shoulder.
Alina gasped softly. Her eyes widened, not in pain, but in surprise. A warm, buzzing feeling suddenly flooded her body, spreading out from where Eric’s hand touched her. It felt incredibly energizing, like drinking a hundred cups of strong energy drinks all at once.
It was pure, clean energy pouring into her, chasing away the tiredness she usually felt after teleporting. She could feel the internal ’cooldown timer’ on her teleportation ability rapidly resetting, the feeling of depleted power being replaced by readiness.
Inside Eric – Adam’s Domain
Adam could feel Alina’s unique teleportation energy signature responding to his input. He carefully pulsed his own power into hers, targeting the specific mechanism that governed her ability’s recharge time. He felt the ’timer’ reset, the ability becoming available for use again. It was a delicate process, requiring precise control.
However, channeling even this small amount of his true power through Eric’s unprepared body had consequences. The seal Millenia had bypassed was minor, but the energy itself was immense.
Back in the Garden
After only a few seconds, Eric felt his right hand suddenly become intensely hot. It wasn’t just warm; it felt like it was burning from the inside out. It was an uncomfortable, almost painful sensation, a side effect of Adam’s power flowing through a body not yet strong enough to handle it without strain.
Inside Eric – Adam’s Domain
Adam immediately sensed the strain on Eric’s body. He instantly severed the connection, withdrawing his energy flow. The job was done; Alina’s ability was reset. No need to push Eric’s limits further right now.
Back in the Garden
The moment Adam stopped the energy flow, the intense heat in Eric’s hand vanished, though a dull ache remained. The faint white glow that had briefly surrounded his hand faded away. Eric quickly pulled his hand back from Alina’s shoulder, instinctively grabbing his right hand with his left, rubbing it slightly.
"Ow... What was that?" he muttered under his breath, flexing his fingers.
The System Window appeared again instantly.
[System]: Apologies for the discomfort, Eric. I used a small amount of your latent potential to refresh Alina’s special ability’s cooldown period. She should be able to use her teleportation skill again now without waiting.
Eric stared at the screen, amazed and slightly alarmed. ’My latent potential?’ he thought. ’Is that what felt so hot and uncomfortable?’ He asked the System silently, ’Why did my hand feel like it was burning? And why did it feel so... uncomfortable?’
[System]: The power residing within you is very potent, Eric, truly enormous. Your body is still adapting to it. Channeling even a small amount for a specific task like this can cause some temporary strain or discomfort until your body becomes stronger and more accustomed to handling such energy levels.
Eric absorbed this explanation. Enormous power? His body couldn’t handle it yet? The idea was both exciting and frightening. ’Do I really have that kind of dangerous power inside me?’ he wondered, looking down at his hand again with a mixture of awe and apprehension.
While Eric was processing the System’s explanation and the strange sensations, Alina was experiencing her own surprise. The sudden influx of energy had left her feeling invigorated, and she could clearly sense that her teleportation ability was ready to be used again, something that should have been impossible for another week. She stared at Eric with wide, astonished eyes.
"What... what did you just do?" she asked, her voice filled with disbelief. She touched her shoulder where his hand had been, still feeling a faint tingling warmth.
Eric looked up from his hand, meeting her gaze. He tried to look confident, despite the lingering ache in his hand and his own surprise. "I told you I could help," he said, trying to sound knowledgeable. "I... reset the waiting time on your special ability."
Alina’s jaw dropped slightly. "You reset my... teleport cooldown?" she stammered. "Is that even possible? Can you really do something like that?"
Eric felt a little awkward taking credit for something the System (and unknowingly, Adam) had done through him. He looked away slightly, rubbing the back of his neck. "Uh... yeah," he mumbled. "Turns out I can do that too."
Hearing this, Alina’s respect for Eric seemed to visibly increase. The last remnants of her doubt appeared to vanish, replaced by genuine awe. "Wow," she breathed out. "So... you really are much stronger than you look. The rumors are totally wrong."
Eric couldn’t help but feel a warm glow spread through him again at her words. Even though she could be blunt and rude, hearing her acknowledge his strength felt validating. He wasn’t completely useless after all.
’Does she ever think before she speaks?’ he thought briefly, but pushed the thought aside. He was still learning how to interact with people outside the palace, people who weren’t royalty or guards trained to be polite. This was just how normal people talked? He wasn’t sure. He still lacked the confidence to point out her bluntness, still feeling his way through social interactions.
He took a breath, trying to regain his focus on the mission. "Okay," he said, looking back at Alina more seriously. "So, you can teleport us now. Let’s go." He stepped closer ready to be teleported.
Alina looked at his face, a worried expression suddenly appearing. "Wait!" she said quickly. "Before we go, I need to warn you. I told you, my teleportation isn’t always perfect! Sometimes I don’t land exactly where I aim. We might end up a little off target, maybe a street over, or even on a rooftop!" She looked nervous. "So, if we appear somewhere strange, don’t blame me!"
Eric felt a sudden jolt of nervousness. "Off target?" he repeated, his eyes widening slightly. "What do you mean? You won’t accidentally teleport us inside a wall or something, right?" The image of being stuck halfway inside solid stone flashed through his mind, and it wasn’t pleasant.
Alina looked confused by his question. "Inside a wall? What do you mean?"
Eric let out a shaky breath. "Nothing," he said quickly. "Never mind. Just... try to aim for somewhere safe."
