Ignored When Chasing: Why Cry After I Got Engaged-Chapter 156: You’ll Regret Offending Me
Just then, a hand snatched the card away.
"Use my card." Serena Hughes enthusiastically placed the card she’d taken back into Cecilia Nathan’s hand, then took out her own. "This is my grandma’s card. She’s a VVVIP."
Upon seeing Serena Hughes, the sales associate immediately recognized her as the newly acknowledged young lady of the Sinclair Family.
People in their line of work not only followed the fashion world but naturally also kept up with the goings-on in the circles of these wealthy families.
Right now, the most talked-about people, besides Chloe Sutton of the Sutton Family, were this very Serena Hughes of the Sinclair Family.
The head of the Sinclair Family, Fiona Sinclair, had only one daughter. In her youth, that daughter had been rebellious, eloping with someone and having a child while she was away. That child had only recently been acknowledged by the family.
Although not everyone approved of this Serena Hughes, she was very likely the future heiress of the Sinclair Family.
As the CEO of the Sinclair Group, Fiona Sinclair loved buying all sorts of luxury goods and jewelry, so it wasn’t surprising that she was a VVVIP.
"Oh, it’s Miss Hughes." The sales associate smoothly took the card and turned to Cecilia Nathan. "Ma’am, since Miss Hughes is willing to cover this for you, and as it happens, her card was used to pre-order this model, we’ll set this bag aside for you right away."
Seeing Serena Hughes defending Cecilia Nathan, the sales associate’s attitude improved considerably.
Mona Nathan, however, was not happy. She glared at Serena Hughes. "Are you crazy? This bag is so expensive. You’re not actually going to just give it to her, are you?"
Although Mona Nathan wasn’t familiar with Serena Hughes, she knew about the ’situation’ between Serena and Cecilia Nathan.
When it came down to it, the two were basically romantic rivals.
’For Serena Hughes to be so nice to a rival, she has to be either crazy or stupid.’
"What’s wrong with giving it to her? As long as Cecilia Nathan likes it, I’d give her another one." At this point, Serena Hughes no longer felt any jealousy toward Cecilia Nathan.
’Cecilia Nathan is Selina Nathan, daughter of Linden Nathan, the future richest woman.’
’A person like that isn’t someone I’m in any position to be jealous of.’
’Anyone who felt jealous of her would just be foolish.’
After that day, her grandmother had sternly lectured her, telling her not to be so narrow-minded. The Sinclair Family would be handed over to her to manage in the future, and women managed things differently than men. For a woman, management was more about mastering the art of socializing.
Especially when dealing with the likes of the Nathans of Aethelgard, any relationship that could be bought with money was a minor issue.
"Serena Hughes, this bag is worth a million! Is your family just rolling in money? Instead of giving it to someone like her, you’d be better off donating to people in poor, mountainous regions."
Mona Nathan couldn’t understand why Serena Hughes was being so foolish.
’Just who is this Cecilia Nathan? Is she really worth Serena Hughes sucking up to her like this?’
Seeing Mona Nathan acting like this, Serena Hughes wasn’t annoyed. She quietly leaned closer to Cecilia Nathan and asked, "Isn’t she a relative of yours? How come it seems like she doesn’t know you?"
"I have no such relative," Cecilia Nathan replied without batting an eye.
Serena Hughes said, "Oh," and her gaze fell upon Mona Nathan, making Mona’s skin crawl. "What are you two whispering about?"
"Oh, nothing. I just think your eyesight might not be very good." Seeing Mona Nathan’s arrogant expression and thinking of the troubles she herself had endured, Serena Hughes couldn’t help but feel a bit of schadenfreude.
’Back then, I was the one who failed to recognize greatness and offended Cecilia. But thankfully, I’m not the only blind one here.’
’Mona and Cecilia clearly don’t get along. There’s no reason for me to help Mona and risk offending Cecilia.’
Just then, Chloe Sutton rushed over. Seeing Cecilia Nathan, Chloe finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"I thought we were meeting at the coffee shop. What are you doing here? See a bag you like? I’ll get it for you." Chloe Sutton had rushed over as soon as she got Cecilia’s text, assuming she had her eye on a bag.
Hearing one person after another offer to buy Cecilia Nathan a bag, Mona Nathan, no matter how slow she was, realized something was wrong.
’What kind of ridiculous luck does this Cecilia Nathan have...’
Cecilia Nathan handed the bag that Serena Hughes had paid for to Chloe Sutton. "This is for you."
Seeing the bag, Chloe Sutton’s eyes widened in shock. "Oh my god, Cecilia! Did you strike it rich? Why are you giving me such an expensive bag?"
This exotic leather bag was about to be discontinued. It was a hot item on the resale market—plenty of demand, but no supply.
Besides, this was her dream bag. But since she wasn’t a VVVIP at this store, she could only ever dream about it.
Seeing that Cecilia Nathan had bought it to give to Chloe Sutton, Mona Nathan finally remembered that the Sutton Family seemed to be quite prominent lately. For some reason, they had recently attracted a lot of business investments.
Because the Sutton Family was working on AI this year, insiders thought there might be some inside information and had been flocking to them to inquire.
Even her own father had told her to interact more with the Suttons so they could get in on the new trend.
Watching Cecilia Nathan give the bag to Chloe Sutton, Serena Hughes was incredibly envious.
Although she had used her grandmother’s card, she’d still have to account for it later. Even she wouldn’t be willing to spend so much on a bag for herself.
And yet, Cecilia Nathan had just given such a rare item to Chloe Sutton so casually.
"Cecilia, where did you get this bag?" Chloe Sutton still couldn’t believe Cecilia had given her something so expensive.
She thought for a moment, then handed the bag back to Cecilia. "You just opened your piano studio, so you must need the money right now. I can’t accept this bag."
Cecilia pushed the bag back into her hands and reassured her, "Don’t worry, I didn’t pay for it. Someone else gave it to me."
After speaking, she jutted her chin toward Serena Hughes.
’Since Serena Hughes was practically handing her money, she naturally wasn’t going to refuse it.’
’Lately, she had accepted everything the Sinclair Family sent her.’
’It was all a price the Sinclair Family ought to pay.’
Although Chloe Sutton didn’t know the full situation, she knew Cecilia must have her reasons for doing this. Hearing that Serena Hughes had paid for the bag, Chloe accepted it with a grin.
’Since Serena Hughes is the one footing the bill, that’s perfect. No reason to turn down a free gift.’
Watching Chloe Sutton accept the bag, Serena Hughes felt both envious and pained by the expense.
But the most astonished of all was Mona Nathan.
It was one thing for Serena Hughes to give Cecilia Nathan a bag, but for Cecilia to then turn around and give such an expensive bag to Chloe Sutton...
’Do these people think money grows on trees?’
Mona Nathan’s heart ached with regret.
"If you don’t want it, give it to me."
’I like that bag, too.’
Serena Hughes shot her a glance and said softly, "I’ve already paid. I’ll give this bag to whoever I want. Cecilia Nathan is my good friend. Who the hell are you?"
Mona Nathan was, after all, a member of the Nathans of Aethelgard. When had she ever been humiliated like this?
She glared at Serena Hughes. "Serena Hughes, you’ll regret offending me for her sake!"
"Is that so?" Serena Hughes raised an eyebrow. "I think you’ll be the one who regrets it."
After she finished speaking, Serena Hughes intended to look to Cecilia Nathan for some credit, but to her surprise, Cecilia and Chloe Sutton had already picked up their things and left.
Serena Hughes’s face paled, and she quickly chased after them.
Mona Nathan was so angry her chest hurt. She pulled out her phone and cried to her father, "Dad, I’m being bullied! You have to come to Korsyth and stand up for me!"
"It’s Fiona Sinclair’s granddaughter, and that bootlicker of Damian Hawthorne’s... what’s her name, Cecilia Nathan."
"Dad, they knew I’m from the Nathans of Aethelgard and still treated me like this! I don’t think they have any respect for our family at all! You have to tell Uncle and have him teach these people a lesson."
