Ignored When Chasing: Why Cry After I Got Engaged-Chapter 138: Human or Ghost
A body...
’Finn Hawthorne is dead?’
"Are you sure the person they found is Finn Hawthorne?" Thinking of the dream, Cecilia Nathan’s eyes closed as a tear slid down her cheek.
’The dream... it was real after all.’
"Cecilia, don’t worry... We’re not actually sure. The police are arranging an autopsy, so it might not be him." Perhaps hearing the sob in Cecilia’s voice, Miles Sinclair sounded flustered.
"I’ll let you know the second I hear anything."
「At the hospital.」
Damian Hawthorne answered a call from Justin Bell, his voice dropping several degrees. "What did you say?"
"President Hawthorne, it’s not looking good for Finn Hawthorne."
Hearing this, Damian Hawthorne’s gaze hardened. "Does Cecilia know about this?"
"She probably doesn’t know yet. But Miss Cecilia Nathan is taking Miles Sinclair to meet her so-called father tonight. Should our men continue to follow them?"
"Tell me the address. I’ll go find her."
...
The moment Cecilia Nathan heard the news about Finn Hawthorne, her hatred for Sharon Quincy reached its peak.
’If it weren’t for Sharon Quincy, Finn Hawthorne would still be alive right now.’
She had planned to introduce Finn Hawthorne for a job with the Nathans of Aethelgard once everything settled down. She never imagined he would lose his life before that could even happen.
Thinking of how Finn Hawthorne looked in her dream, Cecilia Nathan felt as if she had been plunged into an ice cellar.
Cold. A bone-chilling cold.
Just then, Linden Nathan sent her the address.
Seeing the address, Cecilia Nathan’s lips twitched into a smirk.
"Cecilia, Sharon will be there tonight too. We can clear up this misunderstanding together."
Linden Nathan didn’t know about Miles Sinclair.
In the past, Linden Nathan would have paid attention to every detail of her life; he would have found out about Miles Sinclair long ago. But at some point, his focus had shifted away from her.
Instead, he spent more of his time on Sharon Quincy.
Cecilia Nathan didn’t blame Linden Nathan. After all, Sharon Quincy had been his companion for the past few years. Linden had been a single father for so long, and his emotional life had always been lacking. Sharon’s arrival seemed to fill the void of affection in his life.
She wouldn’t object to him taking a goddaughter, but if that person was Sharon Quincy, she would absolutely never allow it.
Cecilia Nathan texted Linden Nathan an "Okay" and then headed to the hotel where they had agreed to meet.
Not long after she left, the hazard lights of a black Maybach downstairs flashed.
Damian Hawthorne watched the direction Cecilia Nathan was heading, his brow twitching slightly.
As he watched Cecilia Nathan get into a car, Damian Hawthorne’s lips curved into a slight smile, and he extinguished the cigarette in his hand.
That was Miles Sinclair’s car.
"President Hawthorne, your eyes aren’t good, and you snuck out of the hospital. How about... I drive?" Justin Bell said from his seat, his face a mask of uncontrollable anxiety.
Damian Hawthorne placed a hand on the steering wheel and gave him a light glance. "No need. My eyes are just injured, not blind."
With that, he slammed his foot on the accelerator, nearly sending Justin Bell flying out of the passenger seat.
Justin Bell closed his eyes, muttering under his breath.
’I hope President Hawthorne doesn’t act on impulse.’
...
Cecilia Nathan brought Miles Sinclair to the largest hotel in Korsyth.
Miles Sinclair looked up, a complex expression in his eyes.
"Cecilia, is your father in there?"
Cecilia Nathan nodded. "Back then, he forbade me from being with you and even sent people to catch you. You drove off with me to escape, but I never expected us to end up in a car crash."
"My father always knew about you, but he never thought I would actually get together with you."
This was the reason her relationship with Linden Nathan had been so poor back then.
Miles Sinclair’s "death" was directly related to her father, Linden Nathan.
If it hadn’t been for Linden Nathan, perhaps Miles Sinclair would never have crashed the car.
"It’s alright. I’m ’alive’ again now," Miles Sinclair said with a strained smile.
Linden Nathan had covered up that car crash, so almost no one knew about it.
However, where Cecilia Nathan couldn’t see, Miles Sinclair clenched his fists, his knuckles creaking faintly.
He looked up at Cecilia Nathan’s back, his lashes lowering to hide the cooling glint in his eyes.
「Inside the hotel’s presidential suite.」
The large dining table was laden with exquisite delicacies, a dazzling array that was a feast for the eyes and the senses.
Sharon Quincy was wearing a long pink dress, her hair done up in a bun, her makeup immaculate.
"Godfather, will Sister... really forgive me?"
Sharon Quincy stood up nervously and began pacing around the room.
She knew it wasn’t enough for Linden Nathan to forgive her. In the end, she still needed Cecilia Nathan’s forgiveness.
She knew how important Cecilia Nathan was to Linden Nathan, which was precisely why she was so nervous.
Sharon Quincy was filled with regret. If she had known earlier that Cecilia Nathan was Selina Nathan, she never would have offended her.
"Don’t worry. I’ve already spoken to her. Cecilia isn’t the type to hold a grudge."
Linden Nathan was lying on the sofa with his eyes slightly closed, listening to an audiobook with his earbuds in.
Just then, the doorbell rang. Linden Nathan quickly took out his earbuds. "Cecilia’s here."
Sharon Quincy hurried to open the door as well.
The door opened to reveal Cecilia Nathan’s beautiful, delicate face. She had large eyes, a face barely the size of a palm, and features so exquisite and ethereal they seemed like a masterpiece crafted by the heavens.
"Ce... Sister, you’re here." Sharon Quincy put on an ingratiating smile. Her gaze swept over to Miles Sinclair and paused. "And this is..."
He looked a little familiar, but she couldn’t quite recall where she had seen him before.
Suddenly, it dawned on Sharon Quincy. "I know! This must be your new boyfriend, right?"
The word "boyfriend" set off alarm bells in Linden Nathan’s mind. He strode to the door in a few quick steps. "What boyfriend? Cecilia, you have a..."
When he saw the person standing before him, Linden Nathan froze. His eyes widened, and he subconsciously stumbled back two steps. "You... you..."
"Miles Sinclair!!"
He hadn’t seen that face in a very long time.
Seeing it again, Linden Nathan looked as if he’d seen a ghost. A rare "crack" appeared on his usually gentle and calm face.
"You... Are you a man or a ghost? Aren’t you dead?"
This was the first time Sharon Quincy had ever seen such an expression on Linden Nathan’s face. She asked with concern, "Godfather, what’s going on...?"
"My dad and I have things to discuss. Miss Sharon Quincy, you’re an outsider. Would you mind giving us some privacy?" Cecilia Nathan’s tone was light, but her words felt like a pair of cold hands tearing away Sharon Quincy’s dignity.
The word "outsider" said it all. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
"Okay, I’ll just go out and buy something then." After saying this, Sharon Quincy gave an awkward smile and stumbled out the door.
After Sharon Quincy left, Miles Sinclair walked up to Linden Nathan and extended his hand. "Hello, Uncle. I’m Miles Sinclair."
"No, you’re not Miles Sinclair!" Linden Nathan cut him off abruptly. "You’re not Miles Sinclair! Miles Sinclair died a long time ago! Cecilia, have you forgotten? We saw him get cremated with our own eyes."
"This Miles Sinclair must be an impostor."
