Ignored When Chasing: Why Cry After I Got Engaged-Chapter 131: Will Never See It Again
"Alright, I’ll give you one hundred thousand."
Cecilia Nathan’s words made the man freeze for a moment, thinking he’d misheard.
"Really? You’re really giving us a hundred thousand?" The man’s eyes darted around, and he smiled obsequiously. "Good, good, good. You know what’s good for you. Don’t worry, once you give us the money, we’ll consider our grudge settled."
Hearing Cecilia Nathan agree to give them the money so readily, Finn Hawthorne’s sister looked astonished. "You’re really giving us money?"
She knew she was sick and that what her father was doing was wrong, but her family was truly desperate for money right now.
She looked at Cecilia Nathan guiltily. "Miss, your money... when I grow up, I’ll pay you back."
Cecilia Nathan didn’t look at her, instead speaking to the man. "I have one condition. I need to know where Finn Hawthorne is."
She still wanted to ask Finn Hawthorne in person what was really going on.
Finn Hawthorne had been physically abused because of her. If Finn himself had asked for it, she would have willingly given not just one hundred thousand, but even a million.
But Finn Hawthorne hadn’t been seen in a long time, as if he had vanished into thin air.
"Finn Hawthorne? Don’t mention that little bastard." The man cursed at the sound of Finn’s name. "He said he’d find a good hospital for his sister, made the promise, and then ran off. Don’t think I don’t know what he’s up to. That brat is afraid we’ll drag him down."
"That ungrateful wolf! I raised him for nothing!"
Hearing this, Cecilia Nathan’s brows knitted with a deep, growing worry.
’In her eyes, Finn Hawthorne was no ungrateful wolf.’
He had worked in *that kind of place* for his family’s sake.
’A person like that couldn’t possibly be an ungrateful wolf.’
「Outside Korsyth, in a deserted suburban area.」
CLANG! A shovel hit the ground, the sound echoing through the factory area.
Finn Hawthorne let out a muffled grunt as a warm stream trickled from his forehead.
Blood flowed from his forehead to the corner of his mouth. The salty, metallic taste jolted Finn Hawthorne’s senses, forcing him to struggle to open his eyes.
"What a filthy piece of trash." The man dusted off his hands, crossed his arms, and leaned close to Finn Hawthorne’s face. "You stink all over and you still thought you could tail me."
Finn Hawthorne licked the blood from the corner of his lips, the light in the depths of his eyes gradually dimming.
"Weren’t you just trying to follow me to get evidence? We’ll see if you live long enough to use it." Walter Wallace held a knife, scraping it against Finn’s clothes. "The three of us had it so good back at the orphanage. In the end, Sharon got sponsored, and you and I were adopted. Couldn’t we have just supported each other? You just had to go and help that woman. Can we even still be brothers?!"
"Sharon made it. She’s latched onto the Nathan Family. We could all have a good life from now on. That Cecilia Nathan is just one of Damian Hawthorne’s mistresses. How can she compare to Sharon?"
"Of course not." Finn Hawthorne’s eyes were downcast, his voice laced with sinister coldness. "Because you’re not worthy."
SMACK! Walter Wallace punched Finn Hawthorne.
"I’m not worthy? And you are, you nightclub gigolo? You’re just a knockoff Damian Hawthorne. Do you really think you’re a young master of the Hawthorne Family?" Walter Wallace stomped on Finn Hawthorne’s foot, grinding his heel. Beads of sweat broke out on Finn’s forehead.
"Even if you got evidence on me, it’s useless. That Cecilia Nathan has no background to speak of. What could she possibly do to me?"
Walter Wallace lifted his foot and said to the men behind him, "We’ve said what needed to be said. He’s useless now."
At these words, Finn Hawthorne lifted his eyes, his gaze chillingly cold.
"Walter Wallace, what you’re doing is illegal. It doesn’t matter if I die. I’ll be waiting for you in Hell."
"Then you’d better wait patiently. When you’re dead, no one will know. Not even the precious Cecilia Nathan you’re so desperate to help."
After he finished speaking, a few men grabbed a burlap sack and threw it over Finn Hawthorne.
Finn Hawthorne looked up at the sky outside.
A full moon hung in the air, illuminating the road through the factory grounds.
’What a beautiful moon.’
’Too bad I’ll never see it again...’
「Korsyth.」
Cecilia Nathan woke from a dream and sat up abruptly.
Just a moment ago, she had dreamt that Finn Hawthorne was saying goodbye to her.
In the dream, Finn Hawthorne hadn’t gone somewhere else; he had gone to search for evidence about the car accident.
At the thought, Cecilia Nathan’s heart clenched violently.
Other than Chloe Sutton, she hadn’t had many friends in her life.
In her school days, she was ostracized for being with Miles Sinclair. Later, she single-mindedly pursued Damian Hawthorne, earning scorn and contempt from people who thought she was a disgrace to all women.
She had finally made a friend like Finn Hawthorne. If something happened to him...
Cecilia Nathan closed her eyes, thought for a moment, and called Damian Hawthorne.
In Korsyth, Damian Hawthorne’s network was extensive. If she wanted to find someone quickly, he was her only option.
When the call connected, a clear female voice answered from Damian Hawthorne’s phone.
Hearing the voice, Cecilia Nathan pressed her lips together tightly.
It was six in the morning, and Damian Hawthorne’s phone was in the hands of another woman. It was obvious they had spent the night together.
"I’m looking for Damian Hawthorne."
"Damian is in the shower. Can I give him the phone when he’s done?"
Hearing the familiar voice, an image of May Rhodes surfaced in Cecilia Nathan’s mind.
’They were actually together all night.’
She couldn’t describe the feeling. Her palms grew slightly sweaty, and a hidden ache in her chest spread through her entire body.
"No need. Just remember to have him call me back later."
After saying that, Cecilia Nathan hung up.
Not long after, Damian Hawthorne called back.
"You needed something?"
"Finn Hawthorne is missing. Can you please help me find him?" Cecilia Nathan got straight to the point.
That dream was giving her a terrible premonition.
Hearing this, Damian Hawthorne let out a derisive scoff. "It’s that man again. Cecilia Nathan, do you have anything to say to me besides using him to provoke me?"
"He’s been missing for several days, Damian Hawthorne. I know you have a problem with him, but this is a matter of life and death. Please, help me. I’ll cover all the expenses."
"And why should I help you?"
Cecilia Nathan’s breath hitched.
’That’s right, why *should* Damian Hawthorne help her?’
’What was she to Damian Hawthorne, anyway?’
They hadn’t had any real relationship for a long time.
If you could say they once had an ambiguous relationship, now that he had someone else, she had no reason to stay by his side.
Although she had been telling herself this for days, truly accepting it still made it hard for Cecilia Nathan to breathe.
"We may not have a relationship, but we’re friends, at least." Cecilia Nathan’s nose tingled with the urge to cry. "Damian Hawthorne, I’m begging you, please help. You also bear some responsibility for what happened to Finn Hawthorne before."
Perhaps hearing the sorrow in her voice, Damian Hawthorne gave a quiet "mm." "I’ll have my people look for him."
"Do it now. Please, start looking right now, Damian Hawthorne. I have a very bad feeling about this."
"Miss Cecilia Nathan, I know you’re anxious to find your person, but Damian is a patient right now." May Rhodes took the phone, her voice impatient. "Until his eyes get better, I don’t want him getting involved in too many complicated matters. The most important thing right now is his eyesight. Surely you can understand something as simple as that?"
