Chapter 321: Verdict

[ORDINATOR v2 is currently down. Please head on to Entity HQ for more info.]

During lunch break, Yoo Gyeo headed to the club room. Seeing no one else there, he settled himself in the corner and browsed through EntiRoom with a frown on his face.

The Entities’ system experienced a shutdown. No, this felt more like a deliberate shutdown by their first incarnation. It was too coincidental not to be.

Fortunately, there was still the EntiRoom. This forum site was just a gathering place for Entities. It wasn’t part of the system, so it didn’t suffer the same fate as it.

One of the rooms was constantly updating, leaving it at the top of the room list.

[The system is down. Do you have any ideas?

Yoo Gyeo tapped on this room link.

– Can’t access the systems. Why is it down?

– Me too.

– me 3. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

– Help! I can’t access my system!

– I was just in the toilet, and the system suddenly crashed when I was trying to buy toilet paper. Now, I can’t buy it and I’m stuck inside the toilet room. Help TT

– Why is the system down? Any news yet?

– Update here from HQ: All Entity operations will be halted.

– Does this mean early vacation?

– Yey! I can binge-watch the drama I was holding off for 10 years now!

– How old is that drama?

– Without the system, how can I even go on a vacation? I haven’t cashed out my payment yet. I’m poor with nothing to eat.

– What about the world? Wouldn’t the world order also crash down if all of us suddenly went on vacation?

– It should probably be fine for a while. Half a month had just passed since the last Mass Binding.

– Every area’s jurisdiction has different schedules!

– What to do? Is the world doomed?

– Help! Who can send me some toilet paper? TT (PS: I want the Refreshing Roll one.)

– Floor above, just f**** order a toilet paper on some Unblooms shop! Don’t waste MC on such frivolous things.

– But I want it! They’re cool to the skin. It’s my money and my choice what to use it for!

– I only have the Endless Roll. Do you want to borrow mine?

– I don’t want it. Endless Roll feels rough on the skin.

– Just wash your butts, folks. Feels even cleaner. I have some Revitalizing Drink in stock here. Just add 50 coins to its original price.

– UPDATE: An announcement had just gone down. Everyone is prohibited from using any Life Book or Memorial Coins. Any transaction using these will have their licenses revoked.

– Seriously?

– What’s happening?

– Am I doomed?

Suddenly, the Room refreshed. At the bottom of the room, the comment box disappeared and a red message replaced it.

[EntiRoom System: THIS ROOM HAS BEEN SET TO A CLOSED ROOM. YOU CAN NO LONGER POST ANY COMMENT, BUT YOU CAN STILL SEE THE ROOM’S HISTORY.]

Yoo Gyeo closed it and put his phone down.

Just then, Gil and Son Areum also arrived in the club room. They opened the door and found no one.

"Where are the others?" Gil asked her.

Son Areum replied with a shrug. "Rayen and the two twerps did not attend school."

The two twerps she referred to were Miles and Yuzuka. She had completely forgotten about Yoo Gyeo.

"Then what about Jiji and Yeo Haru?"

"I don’t know. Should we check on them?"

"There’s no need." Suddenly a voice spoke from the corner.

The two looked at Yoo Gyeo who was actually in the room with them.

"They didn’t go to school," Yoo Gyeo said.

"Is this because of last night?"

Yoo Gyeo did not answer.

...

At the same time, in the Great Study of the Great Library, the meeting was still ongoing. At some point in time, the meeting had turned into an exhibition of Plotter tapping on his laptop. They passed the night just watching him turn the Entity System down according to the World Immortal’s suggestion to mitigate the situation.

Once Plotter put away his laptop, Lib sighed in relief.

It was now time for Plotter’s hearing.

A platform had appeared at the center of the Great Study, facing the Great Desk where the veiled World Immortal was sitting. Plotter was standing at this platform, subjected to the gazes of the World Immortal and the Overseers who were sitting around the platform.

As Lib stroked his beard, his gaze on Plotter was sharp. "You were the creator of the Entity System and these problematic Artificial Book pages. And you were also the first one to report its anomaly. You’re certainly aware of this matter and beat L-163 on reporting this just to reduce your punishment!"

Plotter glanced at him, his lips curled into a mischievous smile. "How can I be aware? Besides, I am ignorant of the fact that you even assigned L-163 to investigate the infestation of Bugs among the Entities."

Sparks flew between Plotter and Lib.

"Aware or not, we should just focus on the problem at hand." The World Immortal said, cutting the intense stare-off between the two.

Lib glanced at her. "We already resolved that when you suspended the use of the system. We should now discuss how the Overseer of Scribes should be punished."

"That’s just a temporary solution, Lib. Without the system, how would you even perform your duties?" the World Immortal said.

Lib frowned. "Do you mean you will eventually lift that dangerous system from its suspension in the future?"

"If not, do you want to go back to the primitive stages? Battling the world’s disorder without any weapon at all?" Plotter said. "Like someone blind who can just guess the most efficient fate and passively guide people toward it by manipulating their surroundings?"

Lib’s hands, which were stroking his beard, paused. Even he didn’t respond right away.

"We’ve been battling against the world’s disorder since ancient times. The Entity System I developed became the most efficient weapon against it. Now, we can directly control souls to abide by the fate that we chose. Are you willing to throw away that weapon yourself?"

"The Entity System is not the problem here," Clandestine suddenly said while finding a comfortable position in her seat. "It’s the later update. The artificial book pages."

"Then remove it!" Lib decisively said. "If that can be removed, then just remove it. It disrupts the world. It creates errors in the Life Books. Delete it."

"Have you seen the EntiRoom’s responses?" Plotter said.

"What?" Lib sharply glared at Plotter one more time.

Plotter stuck out his tongue. "I suppose not."

"You can still smile in this situation?"

The World Immortal sighed. "Lib, you should probably leave the Great Library sometimes. Also, I’ll lend you my phone," the World Immortal said. "The Entities have become too reliant on the Artificial Book Pages."

"We’re guardians of the world. It’s our responsibility to keep order. If that system is disrupting it, the Entities should have no other thoughts than removing it. You’re the World Immortal. You should be more pragmatic about this than me."

The World Immortal’s eyes above the veil only smiled.

"Besides, we’ve lived for hundreds of years without ever relying on those book pages. Even I haven’t used it yet."

"That’s only you, Lib," the World Immortal said. "Those book pages seems so convenient and fascinating to use. If I could, I would have also used it myself."

"... Immortal, how can you—"

"Even the Immortal is not against it. You’re so behind in times now, Overseer." Plotter giggled.

"You, shut up, brat."

"Besides, even if we remove it, the Bugs had multiplied to such a degree," Plotter added.

"That’s right." The World Immortal’s smiling eyes shifted to Plotter.

Only then did Plotter zip his mouth shut. The World Immortal’s smiling eyes were definitely not a good sign.

"I’m sure you’ve already calculated the damages beforehand, Overseer Siel."

Plotter couldn’t handle the pressure and frantically bowed. "It was my mistake..."

The World Immortal’s eyes smiled even more. As Clandestine watched this, she sighed inwardly.

’Should I try to save him?’

However, it’s too much work. Besides, she had been confined in this Great Library for an entire night because of Plotter, almost on the verge of suffering from hemorrhoids.

’Forget it. Let him suffer for now.’

"Are we going to continue this meeting until tomorrow?" Clandestine said. "World Immortal, please just say your verdict."

The three Overseers turned toward the World Immortal with waiting eyes.

"Well, this is my verdict." She turned to Plotter. "Overseer Siel, you are to be temporarily dismissed from your overseer authority until further examination."

This decision does not truly strip Plotter of his position. This was just to appease Lib for poking at his heart during the entire meeting.

Plotter sighed in relief. They had already expected this verdict.

Also, didn’t this mean he gets to have a vacation?

But the World Immortal wasn’t yet done.

"As for the Minstrels..."

Hearing the Minstrels mentioned, Plotter’s eyes widened. He definitely wasn’t calm now.
