Chapter 39: Quest Rewards?

Lillian sighed as she wandered the corridors—her face hot red. She couldn't believe Marionette would just suddenly grab her around her waist.

"Definitely not what I was expecting..." She held her face and shielded it from the people who may be passing through the corridors. She then finally stood before door 365.

Lillian looked beside the door and noticed the exact same scanner she had been seeing. She held out her card and scanned it—unlocking it.

The door unlocked with a click before being pushed open to reveal a nice, quaint room she would be spending the next few years in. After turning on the lights, a cool breeze brushed against her hair.

She looked back and saw it come from the air-conditioner above the door. "How do I turn that off...?" She tilted her head at it before shrugging.

Lillian wandered through her dorm room and checked out all it had to offer: a white-marbled bathroom, a beautifully white kitchen with all the essentials, a small living room that already had some furniture, an empty room she could do whatever to and finally... the bedroom.

The bedroom wasn't overly special. A nice comfy bed that was... far comfier than the one she had in her previous life, a wardrobe for all the designer clothing the original Lillian bought, and a brown wooden desk and chair.

She laid on her bed and gave a sigh of relief before pulling out her phone. She gazed at it before unlocking and scrolling through it boredly. Amidst her scrolling, she suddenly realised something crucial.

She forgot to get Marionette's phone number...

"Argh... I definitely fumbled there..." she groaned, annoyed with herself for running off so abruptly. Lillian then grabbed the pillow and hugged it, "What was the reason for that, though..." Lillian still briefly felt Marionette's hand clutching her waist tightly.

How her fingers sank into her body... how close her face leaned near hers... and how her breath brushed against her face—

Thump...

Lillian threw her pillow across her room with a flustered expression. She breathed heavily before falling back down onto the bed with her face down—kicking her legs up and down.

"Stop thinking about that, Lillian... we have bigger matters to focus on..." Lillian reminded herself as she raised herself off the bed and straightened her back.

She sat on the bed and called out to her system. The familiar blue screen appeared once again; this time, instead of immediately revealing her status—it showed the quests she had just recently completed.

[Rewards: ??? (locked), High-Quality Affinity Pill, Mask of Deceit]

[Would you like to claim your rewards?]

Lillian stared greedily at the rewards offered to her and immediately said, "Yes". After saying that, the screen then widened before a conspicuous black hole appeared in it.

Lillian pulled up her sleeve and reached into it, grabbing and pulling the three items out one by one. She then laid it out on her bed and gazed at them with sparkles in her eyes.

She first took a look at the High-Quality Affinity Pill. Unlike the first one, which was blue, this one was a deep purple and had a much greater mana output—it was practically glowing.

She quickly got up and walked to the kitchen to fetch a glass of water before coming back. Lillian then took in a deep breath before popping the pill into her mouth and chugging the water down.

This was because the thin membrane of the pill was much more durable compared to the lower grade pills—needing for it to be broken down by the stomach acid.

She then sat cross-legged on her bed and waited for the effects to begin. She closed her eyes and seconds later felt a burst of energy erupt from within her stomach that soon spread across her body.

This calm and soothing energy soon turned turbulent and volatile the longer it went. 'Ah... this kind of hurts, actually...' Lillian thought, clutching the area beside her heart.

Her mana began to thrum loudly like some sort of engine. For some reason, she felt the air become slightly more humid.

After a few more moments, the burning feeling she felt in her mana core disappeared. She let out a sigh of relief before bringing up her right hand—water formed before elongating into a narrow staff.

At the tip of the staff, the water twisted and morphed into a long, broad blade. Lillian had recreated an exact replica of Marionette's guandao in mind. Although it may not had the exact durability and offensive capabilities, the fact that she was able to create constructs from water is incredible.

After checking it out, she morphed the guandao into a floating sphere, siphoned some of it into a cup and drank it. "Since I can't get rid of it right now... I'll just drink it."

She kept the sphere floating and moved on to her next reward: The Mask of Deceit. Holding it up—her eyes trailed over its appearance. It was an intricate white mask that had an aura around it that seemed to shift around chaotically.

The mask had sharp and jagged edges that resembled molten metal that had solidified long ago. The areas around these silverish metals were smooth and porcelain-like.

It had a pointed chin, and the eye holes were sharply defined with an upward slant. Along the upper edges, which seemed to flare outwards like small, jagged antlers.

This mask reeked entirely of mischief and mystery.

Lillian then went on to analyse it, curious about what enchantments it had and the history held in its description.
