I was Kidnapped for Revenge by a Ruthless Alpha-Chapter 38: You dare touch what belongs to your king?
Chapter 38: You dare touch what belongs to your king?
ODETTE’S POV:
"Aren’t you a pretty thing? Why are you here all alone little vampire, you do know this is a city of shifters?" The man’s words slurred from alcohol. The pig was drunk before dinner time.
"You’re a big disappointment to you parent’s, aren’t you?" I growled at the man.
The man’s face darkened. "Dirty bloodsucking bitch, how dare you talk to me like that."
"Bloodsucker, is that the only insult you dogs know?" I snapped back. Idiot, I don’t even drink blood.
"What did you say girl?" The drunk man reached out and just as I was about to grab it and twist it when my senses were flooded with the smell of pine and a large hand appeared in front grabbing the man by his neck. He hung dangling in Ambrose’s grasp. The man squeezed Ambrose, pleading with him with large bug eyes. The color draining from his face.
"You dare touch what belongs to your King?" Ambrose snarled eyes glowing a bright gold. His aura was emitting such an overwhelming sense of dominance. It was suffocating and oppressive. Even made me want to submit for a moment. The man mouthed silent words, pleading for his life with his moving lips. He whimpered, pee dripped down his leg, puddling on the ground beneath him. Ambrose nose scrunched in disgust. The whole place quieted and watched as Ambrose snapped the man’s neck, dropping the drunk man to the floor leaving him to lay in his own piss.
"Someone get this cleaned up, I don’t want to see his pathetic corpse." Ambrose grabbed my wrist jerking me to walk behind him. I didn’t fight against him; I was still stunned at what transpired right in front of me. He snapped a man’s neck like it was a twig. And no one batted an eye. No one cared that a member of their own pack was just killed. No trial, nothing.
They really were savages here.
"I let you out of my sight for minutes and I already have to kill someone. You’re trouble." He chuckled.
This psychopath just laughed over killing a man.
What the fuck?
"Are you insane? You just killed a man, out in the open and no one batted an eye!"
"I’m their Alpha King. My word and actions are absolute. We are wolf shifters, Odette, we don’t tolerate weakness. He was weak, the man pissed himself from fear." Ambrose was leaning back in his chair looking so disconnected from reality.
"You’re crazy, you didn’t need to kill him because he’s weak." I mumbled.
"I’m crazy when it comes to you. If any man were to touch you, I won’t let them live." Ambrose looked up at the server who brought a dish of fried shrimp and cocktail sauce. "I didn’t know what you wanted so I ordered something small for me to eat while I waited."
And just like that he was able to ignore the man being dragged away.
"You don’t have to be like that, I could have handled him. I’m not some damsel."
"Oh, princess, I know." He smirked.
Yep, I hate that smirk. It’s official.
"Do you like shrimp? Or should we order something else for you?" Ambrose asked putting a piece into his mouth.
"Yeah, shrimp is fine." I answer taking a piece for myself.
I couldn’t get the image of that man dying out of my mind.
"Are you okay?" He asked me.
"No, just, the food is tainted by the smell of wet dog." I grumbled, kind of joking.
"Well, I’m surprised it’s not dog piss you smell." He laughed.
"You’re ruthless, you know?" I ask forcing myself to take another bite. The stares were uncomfortable.
Triggering even.
Reminding me of all those useless birthday balls I was forced to attend.
"Yes, I know. Theres a reason I’ve been able to keep my title since I turned 13. It wasn’t by being kind and gentle, that’s for sure." He answered like being so violent was normal. Maybe for a bunch of dogs, it was?
"That’s really young to inherit and entire species to rule over."
"Yeah, your father killed my parents the late King and Queen, but it is what it is. I took the throne, put the council in line, rebuilt a crumbling empire and an endangered species." Taking a drink before he continued "I am ruthless, yes, but I also care about my people, but I have no tolerance for people who betray me or fuck with what’s mine."
I should have probably felt more guilt, but I knew the side of the story he didn’t.
"Mine. Mine. Mine. You think you can just say those words and they’ll bare any weight or have any meaning? It doesn’t matter how many times you call me yours. I belong to no one."
When he called me his, it feels so good. Too good. I won’t let myself have any false hope. There can be nothing between us. I’m a vampire, he’s a shifter. He’s the enemy. He’s my captor. There’s nothing else between us.
A long silence sat between us. Not awkward, but stale.
"How come you talk so freely with my servant’s, with my soldiers, even my Beta, but not me?"
"Because you’re an asshole that kidnapped me. And you also killed me, or did you forget that? Your Beta never tried to kill me. And when you left me starved and cold in that dungeon, it was your Beta who protected me" I answered coldly.
He didn’t answer, but I could feel his anger. It was pouring off him like a smoking bomb.
I mean, what does he expect?
"I’m the asshole you’ll be spending every day of your life with me."
"And what if my family finds me?" My father and Mammy would lay waste to this haven. I wonder if he would he pick his city or his revenge?
"I’d kill them all, same as they did to my people." He answered like it was the simplest thing in the world. Like it was the only solution. Like he stood a chance.
"I’ve spent my life not just rebuilding my empire but preparing for this revenge. You think I’m not prepared for your family’s retaliation? Don’t think so little of me. When and if they find us. I will cut your fathers head from his shoulders and keep it on a spike in front of my palace." He laughed like what he said wasn’t the most disgusting thing he could have ever said to me.
"I think I’m done eating now." I shoved the food in front of me away.
A pain settled in my heart, one that threatened to bring tears to my eyes.
He was a monster.
But even still, a part of me still wanted him. Wanted to change his mind. I’m so stupid, but I just can’t help it.
"You’re done when I say you’re done. Keep eating." He grumbled low.
"The food tastes like ash in my mouth now. I’m not hungry, let’s just go." My heart ached from his words, completely destroying my appetite.
"Fine, but you still have to pick out clothes. It’s colder in where we’re going, so you’ll need warmer clothes." He insisted.
"I’m not really in the mood to buy anything, just pick whatever, I’m ready to go home." The image of him putting my father’s head on stick kept flashing in my mind.
Or the other way around, my father putting Ambrose’s head on a spike.
"Did you call my palace, home?" he raised an eyebrow at me.
"I was just careless with my words, let me rephrase. Can we return to my gilded cage?" I rolled my eyes. I couldn’t believe I let words like that slip.
Why was I calling this place home?
"Sure thing, after we finish our little shopping trip." She gave me another devilish smirk.
Even with talk of him murdering my family, that smile still killed me.
He left money on the table. He took me by the hand and led me out of the restaurant. He led me to this large shopping center. Display windows filled with the latest fashions for fall. I saw the stores even had Christmas decorations up.
Walking in and the feeling of animosity struck me like a slap to my face. The eyes on me were overwhelming. With each step we took, going further into the store, the stares got worse, they were now accompanied by whispers and frowns.
I felt it rising.
The anxiety. The panic. The reminder of a day I wanted to forget.
I started to hyperventilate; I couldn’t catch my breath. The store spun, and all I could see where the stares and whispers. It felt like I was being buried under the weight of their glares.
It was just like my 16th birthday party.
The eyes that staled looking at me. Looking through me. Like they could see through the mask I wore.
I needed to get away. I started to look for an exit, anywhere away from the prying eyes that focused on me like a predator.
I spotted it the exit sign. I took off. without a second thought, I just ran straight for the fire escape.
Ambrose was yelling something behind me, but I couldn’t hear anything except the sound of my own heartbeat thundering in my ears.
I shove the doors open and run down a flight of stairs but find the door leading out locked. I slid down and hugged my knees.
No this isn’t happening. It’s not real.
