Chapter 32: What have I done?

***Authors Note: Sorry about the inconsistency with the updates. The death in my family has been hard, but starting today I’ll be back to your scheduled daily updates. Thanks for your patience and devotion***

AMBROSE’S POV:

When the reports came in, I was shaking. A burning, seething, boiling anger was thrashing inside me.

My wolf howled in my mind. I could feel the restlessness in him, the anger and confusion he was feeling over this.

The maiden did this? My sources all say she’s the softest queen that’s ever ruled.

"How sure are we it was Violet and not that dragon bitch?" I asked the man crippled and bloodied in front of me. A few people escaped the minute they smelled the vampires approaching, trying to take as many as they could, but only four made it to the palace.

"My King, because the dragon was spotted, this was most certainly the Queen." One survivor spoke with a shaky voice.

Princess... You’ll pay for your mother’s crimes. You’ll pay for all the innocent lives your family took.

My face darkened; I could feel the shadow descending around us.

"Alpha... I know what you’re thinking, but don’t go there, don’t do something you’ll regret."

"Oh, I won’t regret this." I growled before turning and taking off.

For the first time, my wolf was silent. I don’t know if I felt okay with this or bothered by it.

I could feel my beta chasing after me, I stop and turn to face him. "Back off, and go manage the survivors, that’s an order. I will punish my slave as I see fit." I snarled angrily at him.

"You’re going to regret this. And I won’t help you fix it this time. It’s not her fault." Damon said through the channel.

I just ignored him and barged into my room.

When I saw she wasn’t there, it made me angrier. I started thrashing my room, throwing a lamp against a wall. Knocking my bookshelves over shoving the paper from my desk. I flipped my desk over. Punched the mirror, shattering it. Blood covered my knuckles. Where was she? Who was she with? That’s when I noticed the time, she’d be with the servants eating.

I storm over there, and when I find her having a good time with my people, it set my insides on fire. How dare she enjoy the company of anyone other than me. How dare she enjoy herself while her mother is killing innocent children.

I snatch her up by her hair and drag her out of the kitchen hollering and kicking.

I didn’t care that she screamed, I could barely hear what she was saying the rage that burned in me had me seeing red. I could barely breathe my anger and pain were suffocating me.

I lost it when she punched me in the face, hard. The fury in her eyes. It burned me.

I threw her around the room, ripped her up by her hair. I kicked her, and still I didn’t feel better and that pissed me off more.

Then when I told her what her mother did, she laughed and called me a liar, and that’s when every fuck I had to give went out the window.

How dare she laugh.

I grabbed her by the throat and squeeze tighter and tighter. Watching the light dim from her eyes. I gripped hard not releasing until she went limp in my arms.

Ambrose, you killed her. I don’t hear her heartbeat. Ambrose, fucking do something, or I’ll leave, I’ll leave for good, you won’t have a wolf.

The realization slammed into me like a baseball bat. I killed her.

No... No... No... No... No... What have I done?

Save her... Fix this... Fix it now!

Panic and pain, the kind that could break a man erupted through me and Onyx, a crippling kind of pain.

I started preforming CPR. Lifting her chin and pulling her forehead back, widening her mouth I plugged her nose I put my mouth over hers and pushed my breath into her mouth forcefully 5 times. And then I start chest compressions. 1... 2... 3... 4... 5... until I reach 30 and then I blow in her mouth again, repeat. Finally, she gasped loudly inhaling, I watched the oxygen slamming into her chest. I fall backwards, my heart pounding, my breathing was rapid.

She coughed profusely trying to catch the rest of her breath. And then she looked at me.

I felt the kind of break in my chest that I haven’t felt since the day my parents died.

The look in her eyes, it was betrayal, the expression on her face, hatred and disgust.

I tried to reach for her slowly and she scooted back quicker than I could blink.

"Don’t touch me. Don’t you dare touch me." Her voice was hoarse and raspy, trembled with each word.

What did I do...

"I’m sorry."

She didn’t say anything, she just looked away from me. The hurt on her face was agonizing.

I fucked up, I hurt her.

"I’m sorry, say something..."

She tucked her knees to her chest and closed herself off to me.

She’s never going to forgive you.

I know. But what can I do?

Whatever it takes. She’s special, we need her. I need her. I can’t lose her.

Why the hell didn’t you stop me?

I tried, you couldn’t hear me, you were too far gone.

Fuck.

"Beta Damon." I said through the channel.

"No, absolutely not." He answered me firmly.

"Damon now." I order.

"You made your choice when you walked away. Your mess, you fix it."

"Now. That’s an order."

He growled into the channel at me.

I just sat in the room across from her, neither one of us moved an inch.

She hasn’t looked up at me since she woke up. She hasn’t said a word, not a single word.

Knocking at the door pulled me from my self-loathing.

"Come in Damon." I answered.

Thank the goddess he’s here.

Damon came in and immediately noticed the entire room smashed.

"What did you do, Ambrose. Shit." He said scratching the back of his head. I could see the disappointment plastered on his face.

Then he noticed her against the wall.

My little princess curled into herself like a tiny scared and broken child.

I watched as he walked to her. kneeling down in front of her. reaching out and touching her. Seeing her flinch.

"Hey there, nice to see you again. Not looking to good right now, how about we get out of here and go to the kitchen. I heard you like to bake." Damon spoke quietly.

She peeked up from her knees and nodded. I watched as he extended his hand to her, and she took it.

How did he know she baked? How are they so close, close enough she’d trust him. Close enough she’d leave him without a second thought.

I watched from my spot on the floor. Watched as she left my room without looking back.

I felt like all the light in my life just left with her.

What is wrong with me? She is supposed to be my prisoner. Why do I care that she’s scared of me. Good, she should be. It’s what I wanted. ƒreewebɳovel.com

Isn’t it?

Why does that feel like a lie? It’s like everything’s changed since the beginning. I don’t want her to look at me like that. I want her in the room. She’s consuming my thoughts all the time. She’s taken over my mind, my wolf and now apparently my heart.

And now I fucked it all up. I fucking killed at her. I actually fucking killed her. Why am I so stupid?

I started pounding my fists into my hand.

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

I don’t know how to fix this and what to do about it.

I guess first things first. I should have someone come clean the room I destroyed. I’m going to need new furniture and to have the whole patched up.

"Alpha, may I enter." A man’s voice asked from behind the door.

"Come in"

It’s the doctor’s assistant.

"It’s the weather machines; it’s predicting a bad storm tonight. I brought you the medicine."

Just what I need. A fucking storm.

"Just leave it on the table Jeremiah." I instructed.

"Yes, Alpha." He answered.

"Hold on wait, I need something to sooth a sore, bruised throat. I also need you to check on the princess, she’s been injured. She’ll be in the servant’s kitchen." I told him.

"Yes Alpha, should I report back to you?" Jeremiah asked.

"Yes." I walked to my closet to change my clothes.

With Damon helping the princess, I needed to get back to the town that was lived and the few survivors.

When I joined the others in the conference room, they were talking among themselves.

"Where were we ladies and gentlemen?" I asked.

The men and in the room just stared at me. Like they were surprised I’d be back.

Maybe I’m surprised myself coming back. But I needed to get my mind off things. Off Her.

"We’re discussing setting up refugee camps and evacuating civilians to them, putting more armed soldiers in place, and setting traps." Alpha Drake answered.

"I can offer space in my pack, we had that plague wipe through our wolves, leaving some empty houses and jobs to fill." Luna Dawn offered.

"Good, we can offer resources, from the BloodMoon Pack, whatever you need. Let’s get buses to the other villages as soon as possible." I paused and then looked at Alpha Cameron. "Can you supply extra bodies for protection and food from your plantations?"

"Yes, of course, Alpha King Ambrose. I’ll have my Beta handle it right away."

"Excellent Alpha Cameron." I nodded and turned to Alpha Mason "We could use your boats to and fishing trade to help supply food to the refugees."

"What about the rogues Alpha King Ambrose? They’ve been getting more and more bold. It’s getting dangerous, can we afford to move the civilians? What about the borders we guard east of here. Mongolia has been increasing their numbers. We are going to need reinforcements."

He asked a good question, the rogues have been getting more dangerous, and the situation on the border is getting tighter.

"I’ll see about sending some out to you. Weapons too?" I ask.

"Yes, Alpha King." Alpha Darius answered.

"Done, you’ll leave with more weapons, I’ll see what I can do about getting you more soldiers." I said "We’ll conclude the meeting for now and reconvene tomorrow, get in touch with your people and let get things moving. I don’t want another DreamWeaver Pack incident."

"Yes, Alpha King Ambrose." They said in unison.

"You’re dismissed."

Now to go find that servant girl that’s her friend. Emalea.

"Someone, bring me the servant girl Emalea, bring her to the council room." I say into the clan channel.

"I will find her and bring her to you." Hector answered in the channel.
