I Transmigrated Into A Fantasy World To Farm And Build Houses!-Chapter 244: Damned Feudal Society
Eric nodded his head with a serious expression: "That is a given. If you agree to stay, it will be just like the Dwarves and Snow Wolves; you will all be fellow tribesmen of the Hadu tribe."
"The Hadu tribe is not the Golden Kingdom. There are no subordinates or slaves here. Once you have joined the tribe, you are all our people." Thomas’s voice was filled with disdain for the Golden Kingdom.
No wonder Robin had asked such a question. So, the Golden Kingdom had gone that far? Eric’s jaw dropped in astonishment.
Max whispered in his ear: "In recent years, the Golden Kingdom has started imitating humans, treating weaker races as vassals. There is no longer equality between the tribes; the weaker herbivore beastmen who chose to enter the kingdom at the beginning have gradually become slaves."
Wasn’t this the beginning of entering a feudal society? The beastman kingdom was developing truly fast.
Eric remembered Egbert, Adam, and the others with thick eyebrows and big eyes; he hadn’t expected them to have such a side.
Having studied history for so many years, he knew that the development from primitive society to feudal society was an inevitable process.
In his previous life, he could live comfortably thanks to countless preceding generations sacrificing themselves to fight, eventually securing a socialist life.
Although Eric still complained that being a wage earner wasn’t easy, compared to many other countries, that life was enough to make countless people jealous.
Asking him to accept a feudal society was truly impossible.
Now, weak beastmen were considered slaves; what would it turn into later?
Perhaps the Golden Kingdom would not only enslave dependent beastmen but also launch wars, just like a certain Western country in his previous life, going everywhere to plunder and occupy colonies.
He suddenly remembered that in the original novel, it was mentioned that beastmen in the Golden Kingdom also had many differing opinions.
Besides the neutrals, the radical faction was divided into two.
One faction believed it was an inevitable trend; the weak must be used by the strong.
The other faction was like the scattered beastmen; they opposed it, believing that beastmen shouldn’t do this, as it wasn’t the original purpose of establishing the kingdom.
Eric recalled that the increasingly fierce civil war in the Golden Kingdom was partly due to this cause.
Later, Leo’s mother led her faction to the throne, which stopped the other faction from wanting to scour the continent to capture other beastmen.
But slavery was still not abolished.
Just like in Eric’s previous life, when a nation developed to this stage, even a small fluctuation would affect the overall situation.
There were too many interests involved; even if Leo’s mother wanted to change it, it would be hard to turn the tide.
Moreover, slavery developed in nations because of the massive profits. Even if Leo and his mother weren’t tempted, it was hard to guarantee that future kings wouldn’t change.
As long as this system existed, the Fantasy Continent would always harbor the risk of war. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
"The feudal system kills people..." Eric blurted out an exclamation.
The others didn’t understand what he was saying and looked at him inquiringly.
Eric gave a light cough: "I said slavery kills people. Don’t think they can profit now. Even a rabbit driven into a corner will bite; too much oppression will cause people to rebel."
Thomas looked at him cheerfully: "You’re right. That bunch of traitors in the Golden Kingdom are using despicable methods learned from humans to treat their own kind."
"Hearing you say that makes me feel more reassured, but this isn’t something I can decide alone. We have to go back and discuss it with our tribesmen..." Asa said, looking hesitantly at Robin.
Naturally, this matter couldn’t be resolved in a moment.
The attitude of the two had far exceeded Eric’s expectations; it seemed that subduing the Horned Goat tribe wouldn’t be difficult. He didn’t force them to state their position immediately.
"Of course, go back and discuss it slowly." Eric nodded.
Robin and Asa left with heavy hearts. Eric was also relieved of a burden, his face beaming with joy as he recalled their attitudes.
"It looks like our tribe is about to gain another few dozen people, faster than I thought!" He clapped his hands in delight.
Looking up, he happened to catch Max’s admiring and gentle gaze. The smile on his lips suddenly stiffened, and he averted his eyes somewhat unnaturally.
Oh my god, why did Max make him so flustered now? He was afraid that if he looked for one more second, he would drown in those eyes.
Thomas smiled like a man of experience: "Max, get some dried fruit for Eric. Your mother saved it for him. I’m going over to Joseph’s place for a bit; you two just stay here."
After speaking, before Eric could stop him, he strode away.
Eric reached out a hand hopelessly, but before he could say anything, Thomas had disappeared, so he had to accept it.
He took several deep breaths to calm his wildly beating heart.
Eric really wanted to talk to Max, but as soon as he faced him, his mouth felt like it was glued shut, unable to utter a word.
Max found the cloth bag of dried fruit that Luci had left behind and placed it on the table: "If you can’t finish it, take it back. Mom left it for you."
Max’s deep voice made his ears itch.
Eric mechanically picked up a piece of dried fruit and put it in his mouth, holding a cup of water in his other hand, his gaze blank.
That appearance made Max chuckle. He reached out to stop him from stuffing more into his mouth, leaning his face close and looking straight into his eyes.
"Don’t you have anything you want to say to me?"
Eric looked awkwardly at the handsome face magnified before his eyes, feeling as if there were a vortex in those eyes wanting to suck his whole being in.
He leaned back slightly, feeling this distance was too close. But very quickly, a large hand was placed on the back of his neck, not using force, but not allowing him to retreat either.
He was like prey, and Max was the hunter closing in step by step.
Thinking this, a bit of defiance rose in Eric’s heart. Why was he being interrogated like this?
The feelings were clearly mutual; he truly liked Max, but he also wanted to know what Max’s feelings for him actually were.
