I transmigrated and got a husband and a son!-Chapter 1145: Had no choice
Chapter 1145: Had no choice
Hera Cruel.
A name that had garnered too much attention for all the wrong reasons. Just that name alone was enough to conclude what she was as a person, especially those who hadn’t seen her. After all, the people who had seen her — aside from her people — were either dead or missing from the face of the Earth.
That was why Old Madam Zhu was expecting Hera Cruel to kill her without batting an eye. She expected that she wouldn’t probably see her face before a bullet made a hole in her head. Even if she did glimpse at her, she was expecting to see a pair of cold eyes watching her take her last breath.
Old Madam Zhu expected a lot of things once she came face to face with Hera Cruel. However, she didn’t expect her to be smiling in relief after saving her life, nor did she ever think Hera would casually sit on the edge of the bed to look at her up close to make sure she didn’t get hurt.
"Felice was right. My grandson will love you."
Old Madam Zhu’s words escaped her mouth even before she could think about it. It just reminded her of how Felice bragged about her daughter, telling her Hera would be deadly to any man once she grew up. Old Madam Zhu couldn’t help but wonder why was she smiling.
"Your grandson... didn’t he get a divorce, Old Madam Zhu?" Hera tilted her head a little, smiling. "I thought you loved your granddaughter-in-law. She’d get hurt if she heard that you’re doting on another woman right after their divorce."
"Hera Cruel." Old Madam Zhu sighed heavily. "Why did you do that?"
"Did what?" Hera blinked innocently before her mouth formed an o-shape. "Ah. Do you mean that woman over there? Well, that’s a strange thing to say."
"Normally, people would say thanks." She glanced at the unconscious woman lying on the floor. "She tried to kill you, but you’re asking me why I saved you."
Looking back at Old Madam Zhu, her lip stretched. "But then again, I am not expecting words of gratitude from you. Expect this time as my dowry."
Perhaps half of the rumors about her were right.
"You knew Dominic..." Old Madam Zhu breathed out, but not surprised. Hera had a lot of means to know someone. Glancing at the woman on the floor, she couldn’t help but press her lips into a tight slash.
Just now, Old Madam Zhu told herself Felice’s enemies were always a step ahead of her. She thought it would be the same for Hera. However, Hera made it in time. Perhaps the step wasn’t as big now as it was before.
"My mom used to tell me she has one friend. A very good one whom she trusted with a lot of things," Hera spoke, resting her hands on the mattress as she reclined slightly. She didn’t bother if the blood on her hands stained the blanket as she focused on the old madam.
"She used the he/him pronoun, so I always thought it was a man," she continued. "My mother barely told me anything about this friend of hers. I’ve always wondered why wouldn’t she tell me about her friend, and at the same time, she would tell me that this friend is better off without her."
Hera smacked her lips as she recalled those times in the past. "But not long ago, I found out that this friend might not be a he, but a she. And that... I know nothing about my mother."
"Now that you mentioned her name, I was correct." Her short smile returned. "You were expecting me to come, did you, Grandma?"
Old Madam Zhu took a deep breath as she clasped the sheet over her lap. "I did, young lady."
"It’s good to be called young these days."
"You are young."
"But not stupid." Hera shook her head. "I could make the perfect granddaughter-in-law."
"Hera." Old Madam Zhu automatically took those words as a threat, moving closer to Hera with adrenaline running through her every old nerve. "Please. Leave my family out of this."
"And what if I don’t? You said it yourself, Grandma. Your grandson will love me, and I think you’re right. I mean, I agree with you."
Old Madam Zhu clenched her teeth as bitterness shone in her eyes. At this point, she didn’t know why Hera was here or why did she kill the other woman. But what she knew was that it was either Hera wanted to kill her herself or make her confess about her involvement in Felice’s death.
"What I did is something I did alone," Old Madam Zhu pleaded quietly. "They are innocent."
Deep lines appeared between Hera’s brows, confused. She was simply humoring Old Madam Zhu to make her relax a little. After all, this might have startled her. Hence, she couldn’t understand the fear and desperation in her eyes.
’Did she think I came to kill her?’ Hera wondered and frowned deeply at the thought. ’Right. Hera Cruel — the madwoman. I’m not Heaven Liu, whom she dotes so much. Sucks.’
With that thought in mind, Hera let out a short chuckle. But in Old Madam Zhu’s ears, it was an evil laugh of ridicule. Well, no one could blame Old Madam Zhu. Hera’s laughter indeed sounded naturally evil, even if her intentions were good. Only Dominic wouldn’t hear it that way, making others wonder if he was originally deaf.
"Grandma —"
"I understand you lost your mother, child," Old Madam Zhu spoke at the same time, knowing she had to explain herself as a last attempt to save her family from Hera’s wrath. "But my family... knows nothing about what I did to Felice. It was my doing and I deserve to die for it, but please, do not drag them into this." freeweɓnovel.cøm
The smile lines on Hera’s face slowly faded, squinting her eyes briefly. She heard Old Madam Zhu loud and clear and from what the old madam was saying, Hera could grasp what the old madam was talking about.
"I called Felice that night..." Old Madam Zhu confessed to Hera, watching the latter’s expression change ever so slowly. "I didn’t want to, but I thought I had no choice."
Old Madam Zhu’s face crumpled, reaching for Hera’s hand and squeezing it. "I’m sorry, child."
