Chapter 19: The Second Slaughterhouse! Creating Shadow Servants
The Eastern District Flower and Bird Market!
Though it was called a flower and bird market, it offered far more than just flowers and birds. There were also small wild animals and exotic poultry on sale.
As in any world, the wealthy often sought novel experiences, including sampling rare and exotic meats.
However, the wilderness in this world was perilous. Apart from the official routes guarded by the military, most areas were filled with deadly flora and ferocious beasts.
The lure of wealth birthed a new, accessible profession—treasure hunters.

Despite its glamorous name, it was a high-mortality occupation. While some treasure hunters struck gold by finding rare plants or animals, their successes masked the grim reality of many others who ventured into the wilderness only to become prey themselves.
The Flower and Bird Market served as a hub for treasure hunters to consign rare flora and fauna. It also offered slaughtering services, earning it the nickname The Second Slaughterhouse.
But Lu Yu’s purpose wasn’t to seek novel experiences like those idle rich folk. He wasn’t interested in rare beasts or plants.
He had come to test his skill: Shadow Servants.
Shadow Servants: By absorbing sufficient shadows, the Void Shadow Spider can produce a shadow servant (spider or humanoid form). Up to ten servants can be created. These natural-born assassins can infiltrate shadows and serve as the most loyal subordinates.
This was the original description of the skill. However, after Lu Yu extracted and solidified it as his own, it underwent some changes.
Shadow Servants: By absorbing sufficient shadows, the Void Shadow Spider can produce a shadow servant (spider or humanoid form). Up to ten servants can be created...
The addition of a humanoid form option was an unexpected but welcome surprise. Skills, it seemed, adapted to the user’s attributes.
Lu Yu was delighted by this development. Spider-shaped shadow servants would have easily been branded as belonging to an evil faction, potentially linking him to the Twisted Spider cult.
Humanoid servants, however, were much more acceptable among humans and could even help him maintain his various disguises.
Still, the humanoid form gave Lu Yu a sense of déjà vu—it reminded him of the Shadow Ninjas from Jackie Chan Adventures.
Capable of combat, labour, and even operating electronics, they were incredibly versatile. Back when he watched the show, he had often fantasised about having a group of such minions to massage his shoulders and cook his meals. Reality, of course, had long since crushed those dreams.
But creating them himself? They might turn out even better.
With that thought, Lu Yu didn’t linger at the entrance and strode into the so-called Second Slaughterhouse, or rather, the Flower and Bird Market.
The layout was reminiscent of the markets he remembered from his past life, with a central walkway flanked by numerous shopfronts.
The market was vast, with guards stationed every hundred metres to maintain order. The air was thick with the stench of blood and the odour of animal droppings, permeating the streets.
However, the visitors seemed accustomed to the smell, raising no complaints.
After all, animals weren’t about to use toilets like humans.
If there were such intelligent creatures, they wouldn’t be confined to an ordinary flower and bird market.
Surveying his surroundings, Lu Yu bypassed several flower shops and stopped in front of a store selling rabbits.
Cages were stacked in layers, each crowded with rabbits. Most had grey fur, with a few sporting white coats.
Despite the density, the cleanliness was surprisingly well-maintained, and there was no overwhelming stench.
The shopkeeper, a bespectacled young man with an unremarkable appearance, glanced at Lu Yu and gave him a perfunctory nod before returning to his phone.
The indifference didn’t bother Lu Yu. The market saw a heavy flow of visitors daily, most of whom were merely window-shopping. Greeting every passer-by with enthusiasm would have left the shopkeeper utterly exhausted.
True customers would pay for what they wanted without the need for excessive pleasantries, as long as no malice was shown.
Lu Yu noticed the shopkeeper’s focus shift back to his phone, which suited his plans perfectly.
Stepping further into the shop, he positioned himself to block the view of several cages. His gaze scanned the rabbits before settling on a particularly large grey one.
This rabbit, larger than the others, stood a full head taller among its peers.
Its size had earned it a small domain within the cage, as none of the other rabbits dared approach.
The ample space it claimed cast a concentrated shadow at its feet under the overhead light.
“Big Boss Bunny, it’s you,” Lu Yu murmured with a smirk.
The grey rabbit, sensing danger, began to tremble, its blood-red eyes darting around nervously.
But it was too late.
“Shadow Servants!”
Raising his palm, Lu Yu extended his slender index finger and pointed at the grey rabbit.
Energy surged within him, coalescing at his fingertip into a peculiar, invisible force. The energy drifted toward the rabbit’s shadow, slowly taking the shape of scissors.
With a gentle snip—
