Chapter 1209: Dangerous

The scraping grew sharper inside their minds like a grinding intrusion that vibrated directly against their thoughts directly.

Sylmira’s vision blurred for a moment as the sound tunneled deeper, not through her ears or skull but through the Magic sustaining the barrier.

Adrius felt it like hooks dragged across the inside of his skull, each pulse of reinforcement feeding the disturbance back into him.

Saeldir staggered back and almost stumbled. His teeth clenched as cold sweat ran down his neck.

This was not normal Magic power. This was interference with their inside. This was very dangerous.

The Chaos God was no longer attacking the barrier as an object. She was contaminating the Magic itself, threading her presence through the spell’s structure, turning it into a conduit to attack the casters.

Sylmira realized it first. "This is a resonance attack! She’s vibrating her power through our casting frequency."

Adrius also understood quickly, dread settling heavy in his chest. "If we keep holding this, she won’t break the barrier. She’ll break us."

Saeldir forced his breathing steady, though the ringing sharpened with every heartbeat.

"This is a corruption vector," he said grimly so that everybody could hear. "Sustained exposure. We don’t have a counter-pattern fast enough."

They had reached the limit.

King Gulben felt the shift through the anchored dome and the way the golden light of his sword began to tremble as well.

He turned toward them. His jaw tightened.

"Release it," he said at last. "Let the barriers go."

The words landed hard. None of them wanted to let go of the barrier and get exposed to the Chaos God directly.

Charging a Chaos God without layered protection was dangerous.

Yet none of them argued.

They all knew the truth. If the Archmages fell to corruption here, this level would be unwinnable. And if they survived, the Dungeon would restore them when this ended. Pain and risk were temporary. However, losing themselves was probably not a good risk to take.

King Gulben turned fully to them, golden light flaring brighter around his armor.

"We will attack directly. Do not hesitate or break formation. Overwhelm her before she adapts further."

The three Archmages nodded once.

Then they let go.

The dome dissolved first, peeling away like mist under harsh sunlight. The prison followed a heartbeat later, collapsing inward as its woven structure unraveled.

The instant the containment vanished, the Chaos God surged forward, tentacles snapping outward and screeching through the air with renewed ferocity.

The pressure hit them fully.

Aurdis raised both hands at once, Magic flaring outward in layered waves to deflect the first barrage. Her focus was sharp as she shaped force and disruption.

Aerchon stepped through the gaps she created, his silver sword flashing as he carved through whipping limbs with precise and ruthless attack.

Saeldir moved again beside him and unseated his sword in hand now instead of spellcasting focus. He also slashing at the tentacles while reinforcing himself with tight, controlled Magic rather than wide constructs.

Lysander met the next surge head-on, yellow lightning roaring along his arms as he slammed his fists into a mass of tentacles, the impact detonating outward in arcs of lightning.

Adrien followed immediately, his bare hands glowing with compressed force as he landed his hit. His blow was driven by fury as much as skill.

Billy stayed close to him and matched him step for step, his Magic reinforcing his body as he grappled and tore through the pink slick flesh.

Arty launched herself forward without hesitation. Her gauntlets blazed as she punched through the descending tentacles. She landed hard, turned around and struck again relentlessly.

"Charge!" King Gulben roared.

He moved first.

Golden light exploded outward as he surged ahead with sword raised, presence overwhelming as he closed the distance in a single bound.

The Chaos God answered in kind. Her monstrous body lunged forward, laughter tearing from her many throats as tentacles and limbs collided with steel, Magic, and flesh all at once.

The clash detonated across the ruined land.

Power slammed into corrupted power, shockwaves ripping through broken stone and scattering ash into the air.

King Gulben surged ahead, golden light roaring around him. Adrien and Billy charged at his flanks without hesitation, their steps perfectly matched to his pace.

The Elven King did not need to turn his head to know they were there. He felt it in the way the pressure changed, in the resonance of intent moving beside his own. Two warriors advancing with him not out of command but instinct.

It stirred the pride, gratitude, and determination deep within him.

Their souls burned with the same fire to fight.

The Chaos God met them.

Her colossal body crashed forward, limbs slamming down with terrifying force.

King Gulben raised his sword and met her first strike directly.

CLANG!

Steel screamed as it collided with hardened flesh that felt more like layered metal than muscle. The impact detonated outward, blasting a shockwave that gouged trenches into the ruined ground.

"Grrh..." King Gulben held.

His boots skidded back several feet but he did not fall. Golden light surged from his armor and sword, anchoring him as he drove the blade upward, carving a deep gash along one massive limb.

Black and pink ichor sprayed into the air.

The Chaos God shrieked in delight.

Adrien and Billy struck in the same instant.

Adrien leapt, both hands glowing as he drove compressed force into her exposed side.

The attack thundered on impact, folding corrupted flesh inward and sending ripples through her body.

Billy followed and slammed his fist into another limb, tearing and ripping her flesh.

It seems to worked.

Then the Chaos God moved to retaliate.

Her body twisted impossibly. Her limbs folded and reoriented with obscene speed. One massive arm slammed sideways, catching Adrien.

The impact crushed the breath from his lungs and hurled him across the battlefield. He smashed through shattered stone and skidded across the ground. He felt pain exploding through his ribs as the world spun in his vision.

"CAPTAIN!" Billy shouted and moved to intercept.

But he was too slow.

A cluster of tentacles coiled around him from behind, constricting hard enough to crack the ground beneath his feet.

He drove his elbows back, tearing free one limb, but another slammed down from above and smashed him into the earth.

The blow detonated dust and debris outward as Billy coughed blood and struggled to rise.

King Gulben saw it all in the periphery of his vision. Anger flared inside of him.

He roared and advanced again, sword blazing brighter as he struck in a relentless sequence. His swings carried immense power. He cleaved through limbs and carved glowing wounds that refused to close.

The Chaos God recoiled half a step, more surprised than hurt.

Her laughter twisted sharper.

She retaliated with precision. A massive claw slammed downward, forcing King Gulben to brace.

Another limb lashed sideways, striking his shoulder and sending him skidding back through torn earth. The golden light flickered but did not break.

Adrien forced himself upright, blood dripping from his mouth as pain screamed through his body.

"Get up. You’re not done." He staggered forward again, Magic roaring back into his limbs.

Billy rolled onto one knee, wiping blood from his chin. His vision swam, but his jaw clenched tight.

Across the battlefield, the Chaos God loomed, eyes rolling and locking onto them again.

She grinned.
