Chapter 122: Chapter 122: Zero’s Journey (2)

"Hey, why are you ignoring me? They always say people change when they get their power badge. I didn’t think you’d be like that!"

Zero stops and glances at her. Even if it doesn’t have a mind of its own, it can register orders very well. Therefore, Blaze has used countless orders to build an artificial personality for Zero and taught it how to react to people.

To be the most efficient in training, Blaze has given it a very dry and serious personality.

"You are bothering me. I need to train."

Zero finishes his sentence and continues running, without even looking back from behind.

His body is burning and his lungs beg for air. But the clone still maintains a steady and calm breathing style.

"Hey!" Jube rides along his side. "What’s your problem with me? We were cool before!"

Zero glances at June again, this time with even more contempt in his eyes.

"Text me later. I’m busy training."

"I don’t even have your contacts!" June rolls her eyes.

"Then I don’t know you enough to have a problem with you."

Zero’s answer causes June’s throat to freeze up. It is crude and straightforward, but everything it said is exactly the truth.

June shakes her head.

"You’re right. I apologize for intruding. Have fun running."

Then June dashes away on her bike. Zero says nothing, it doesn’t even flinch. It keeps on running.

He eventually goes to the gas station belonging to Eleanor. She still hasn’t come back yet, so there is only June looking after the place.

When Zero arrives at the place, he takes a detour and goes inside to buy a water bottle. Rehydration is very important, and Blaze does not want it to die because of exhaustion. Therefore, he has given an order for Zero to take care of its body needs accordingly.

June just opens up the station and is rather surprised to see ’Blaze’ enter her store.

The gas station is also a convenience store with items suitable for the travelers.

Zero sweats so much that his clothes stick to his body, revealing his muscles to the world view. Compared to Blaze, Zero’s muscles are much more humble. But it is tame and very lean, just attractive enough without posing too much intimidation.

June can’t help but stick her gaze onto Zero’s shirt. His muscles are glowing under that fabric.

"One water, please!"

June can even smell Zero’s body odor. It is not bad at all and even smells kind of refreshing.

"ONE WATER, PLEASE!"

Zero’s shout snaps June out of her trance.

"Ah! Yes! I’m sorry!" She quickly gets the bottle of water for Zero.

He still comes here to buy water... It seems like he doesn’t care much about what happened earlier. We really don’t know each other well enough to be having a problem.

They only met once when they did the assignment together anyway. It’s not like they were having any special connection.

"Thank you!"

Zero chugs the entire bottle into his stomach.

June rests her chin on her hands.

"I want to ask something. Is that okay?" June says.

Zero doesn’t answer, so she takes it as a yes.

"Why are you training? Aren’t you an A-rank already? What you should do now is kill Crises and take their Extractions."

Zero throws the bottle into the trash can. Once again, giving June that cold, hard glance.

It is not actually intimidating. June even feels some kind of coolness from its gaze.

He’s kind of cute, to be honest... No, June! You can’t think that way. This is a kid!

"Will you give up training if you’re an A-Rank?" Zero delivers the sentence in a mono-cold tone.

"Of course not. Even with high-rank power, I would still train. But my power is different from yours. High-ranked Precision Aim need training to be effective."

Zero shakes his head and buys another bottle. This time, it’s splashing the water on his body to cool it down.

"Every power has weaknesses and advantages. Training is to minimize your weaknesses and magnify your advantages. It is the same for every power."

June drops her jaw. It is hard to believe that this kind of wisdom is being spoken by a sixteen-year-old boy. Previously, she thought the only difference was the power level.

But now, she can understand why they have such a gap.

Blaze thinks about this way deeper than I. He should be the age for joining the Academy also. He must be invited by the highest-ranked academies already. Argh! I wish to join an Academy too.

There are two ways to join an Academy.

One, you must be a B-Rank Awakened or higher. This is instant acceptance. They don’t even care about who you are or where you came from. Of course, they don’t care about it because they want to use you. All Academies are controlled by Vought Entertainment and the Federation. They would want to replenish their troops from time to time.

The Academy is the best place for this.

The second way is to use the usual ladder. You graduate with flying colors from high school and with a low-ranked power, precisely for F to C-rank Awakened, you can still join the Academy. These people most of the time become nobodies and are never the heroes on the news.

June has a D-Rank power, so she can only choose the second option. Regretfully for her, she was not a good student back in the day.

Now she is twenty-one already, past the suitable age for the Academy.

June still has a chance. She can take an entry exam, and if she’s smart enough, she may still be able to join. But the likelihood of that happening is extremely low. June has never performed very well in school.

"What’s wrong?" Zero says.

Blaze does insert some orders for Zero to be empathic from time to time.

"Ah. It’s nothing. I bet you will be going to the Academy soon!"

"I don’t know."

Suddenly, the door behind them is kicked open.
