Chapter 109: The Contract

"I’d rather die than be your lapdog!"

The Brutalist spits on the rugged ground.

The entire inner yard of the Police Headquarters is ruined. Most of the ground is either broken or cracked.

Holes lie everywhere, leading to the deep city sewer.

Fleeting gunshots can still be heard from under there. Sebastian is still working hard to deal with those corrupt cops that fell down.

Blaze looks at the muscular body of the Brutalist, he lowers the Lantern a bit and shares a creepy, much wider than usual smile.

"But you’re already dead, my friend. Don’t misunderstand."

The Brutalist’s expression darkens. He clenches his fist hard.

The Runner is looking down on his body, checking it while thinking about something at the same time.

The Harpist grabs the Crimson’s hand tightly, those worried eyes stare at him with great panic.

The Swordmaster gulps, conflicted inside on what he should choose.

The Crimson pats the Harpist gently to calm her down.

He stands up to take the helm and lead his team like always.

It is his responsibility as a leader.

"Are you saying that you won’t use us for your own good?"

Blaze nods.

"Are you saying that your purpose is only to go after the evil and the corrupt?"

Blaze nods.

"I’ll agree to become your servant if you can guarantee me all of that."

"Captain, no!" The Swordmaster shouts.

"Thomas!" The Harpist concerned voice echoes.

"Don’t do this!" The Brutalist yells.

The Crimson raises his fist, which silences his teammates immediately.

"This is my choice. I am not forcing you to stand with me on this decision. If you decide to refuse, just refuse.

I’ll hold no grudge toward you. But I want you all to consider this seriously."

The Crimson points his finger at Blaze.

"Whatever that thing is. It is capable of much more than just killing us. We all saw that.

Refusing its offer may result in something much worse than what we already have."

Blaze secretly celebrates inside.

As expected of the Captain of the A-Force. His charisma and leading ability are incomparable. His presence is much more commanding than every other leader Blaze has seen.

Nadyr, Cavalcante, Adam Gulliver... Even Preston of the Liberty Sons. All are missing some kind of trait to make them truly great.

Blaze already knows what the Crimson will choose. The others may be reluctant to accept his offer.

But a boy that is crazy in love like him has no other option.

He, himself, has never experienced this much fiery emotion toward someone. Even with Alyson.

Now, he is witnessing firsthand what the warm caressing of love can do to a man.

The Swordmaster exhales. It seems like he just let go of all the weight he is bearing on his shoulder.

Signing whatever this Celestial Contract is will bring an unimaginable change to their life. They may very well be giving away their freedom and free will.

But the other option is no less bleak. This being, whatever it is, is capable of taking their souls.

What prevents it from experimenting further on their souls?

The truth is nothing.

So the Swordmaster thinks that they’re fucked if they agree. They are also fucked if they refuse.

But the captain has spoken. Whatever this road may lead them to. The Swordmaster will follow it to the end.

The Swordmaster drops down on one knee with a hand on his chest.

"The Swordmaster accepts to become your servant. My real name is Magnar Perisic."

"You? How could you, Perisic!" The Brutalist says.

The Crimson reaches his hand out to the Harpist. She happily takes it and uses it to stand up.

The Harpist is much less concerned about the future. She is happy that she has another chance to continue her life with the Crimson.

The lovebirds kneel down.

"I, the Crimson, leader of the Akansa A-Force team, shall become your servant.

Thomas De Gea at your service."

"I, the Harpist, shall also become your servant. My name is Geraldine Courtois."

The Runner wastes no time to join them.

"My name is Philip Di Maria. I also choose to become your servant."

"You traitors! All of you are traitors!"

The Brutalist points at his team members and begins yelling. He believes in what they’re doing. An unshakable faith.

This faith prevents him from understanding why his teammates choose to compromise.

"Please, Louis.

We have no other choices."

The Crimson says.

"We always have a choice. You just made it. I will not become your pet, Wraith. I fight for Ranas and Ranas only."

The Brutalist shares a blazing stare toward Blaze, having no intention of hiding his anger and contempt.

Blaze opens his palm, and the Brutalist body walks over like a puppet on strings. He places his neck into Blaze’s palm.

Blaze squeezes it immediately and raises the Brutalist up high. His two feet dangling on the ground.

He may have been able to resist when he was still himself. But the Brutalist is a soul slave now, and he is even using Blaze’s clone. He has no chance of going against Blaze’s will.

"You’re the stubborn one, I suppose."

"Don’t hurt him!" The Crimson stands up immediately. "Whatever you want, I’ll do it. Let him live."

"Oh, I am intending to let him live."

Blaze throws the Brutalist to the side and pushes the Celestial Contract over to the other four.

The scroll straightens itself and floats in front of the A-Force members.

"Here are the clauses of our contract.

First clause: all parties must abide by what is written here or be punished by the Blood Oath.

Second clause: all signing parties must keep the secret of this contract or be punished.

Third clause: all signing parties are servants of the providers and must abide by all orders.

Fourth clause: all signing parties can never act evil and corrupt in any way.

Fifth clause: The provider shall not order the signed parties to conduct evil deeds or any action that brings harm to themselves."

With each word coming out from Blaze, golden letters appear on the Celestial Contract.

At first, all the A-Force members hold their anger inside to fight another day. The first three clauses seal their fate as nothing more than mindless slaves.

But the fourth and fifth clauses change their minds. The fourth clause prohibits them from doing any bad deeds and also forces them to always be upright.

And the fifth clause isn’t about them but a restriction to Blaze himself.

This makes them feel much better about the upcoming future.

Blaze actually does a little trick here. The Clauses only affect the signed parties and not the provider, so Blaze doesn’t actually have to abide by the fifth clause.

But he will do it anyway because he intends to do exactly so. The fifth clause is much more of a reassurance to the A-Force team.

"If you agree with everything here,. Bite your finger and press your blood onto the signed section."

Blaze says.

Thomas and Geraldine hold each other’s hands and step forward. They have the most to lose, so they are the first to accept everything.

They both bite into their thumbs and press them onto the golden scroll.

Two blood vortices envelop Tom and Geri. Two blood-red symbols are engraved onto the backs of their hands.

"Welcome, Crimson. Welcome, Harpist.

We have a lot of work to do in the future. But don’t worry, nothing will change much.

However, there is something that I need to do first.

Step forward, Thomas De Gea."

As the Crimson approaches Blaze, he reaches out his hand and pulls Thomas’s soul out of his body.

The Blood Oath may bind his physical form, but Blaze still feels unsafe. It is much better to also make him a soul slave for good measure.

The process is quick, and Thomas returns to his body within a minute.

He has so many questions on what Blaze just did, but he refrains from asking.

Next is the Swordmaster. He signs the Blood Oath and also becomes Blaze’s servant.

Blaze marks him as a soul slave the same as Thomas.

The Runner follows suit. Blaze already marked him, so there’s no need to repeat that process.

The Brutalist is the only one left. He freezes in place to see each of his best friends slowly becoming a slave for another being. He cannot believe in what is happening.

In his mind, no compromise should take place. Whatever Blaze does, they should instead choose to face it instead of quivering in fear.

"Well? Come and sign."

"I will never... Yes, master!"

The last two words escape his mouth unwillingly. The Brutalist covers his mouth in disbelief.

"How..."

Blaze laughs. He already marked the Brutalist. Whether he wants it or not, he is already Blaze’s servant.

"Listen, big guy. I don’t want to kill you. You are a very talented Awakened. And you are one of the best Enhancers in this city.

I know you think it is unacceptable to join me. But let me tell you a secret.

We are on the same side."

Blaze grabs Louis’s jaw and directs it toward the ruined building of the Police Headquarters.

"The evil men are over there, and I came to kill them."

From the ruined of the building, Adam reveals himself.
