I Merged with a Forbidden SSS-Rank Nanosuit After Being Abandoned-Chapter 89 - Cruel Universe And Preparations
As Uriel finished his sentence, Zion’s eyes lit up.
’That’s right,’ he thought, nodding. ’If they destroy our ship, Koru will no doubt die, and they won’t earn anything.’
He paused for a moment. ’And fighting in person on Heliax gives us a chance.’
Now there was only one thing left to do. Zion looked over at the hologram, clenching his fist as he cleared his throat.
"I’ve made a decision," he said, voice firm.
"About time," the female voice responded coldly.
"I will not be handing him over," Zion said.
Before the female on the other end could respond, he continued.
"If you want to capture him alive, come and get him at Planet Heliax."
The female remained silent for a moment, the silence heavy.
Finally, she responded with a cold voice. "If it is your wish to die, so be it."
With that, the call disconnected, and the hologram disappeared.
Zion stared out the window, locking eyes with the enemy weapon systems, his fingers crossed.
Seconds passed... then minutes. But none of the weapons aimed at them fired a single shot.
He let out a sigh of relief, then turned back.
"Continue at full speed," he said, voice low. "I’ll start preparing now."
[Affirmative.]
Zion’s eyes landed on Koru, a frown appearing on his face. ’We’ll have to survive this together,’ he thought. ’Even I can’t win against dozens of people.’
He was confident there weren’t any B-ranks on board their ship, since they could’ve simply used their mech abilities to break into the ship and take Koru.
But the number of people needed to run a Titan-class ship without an intelligent AI easily reached the dozens.
’Not to mention, these people aren’t stupid,’ he thought, shaking his head. ’If they’re here to capture a young Verdant Sentinel, there’ll be several C-ranks at the very least.’
He let out a soft sigh, knocking several times against Koru’s head to wake him up. After the third knock, Koru’s body shot up, nearly ripping the straps out with him.
"What?! Where am I?" he shouted, his head spinning around.
"Calm down," Zion said, his expression darkening slightly. "You’re alive and on board the ship."
A hint of recognition dawned on Koru before his head snapped toward Zion.
"What about the enemies?" he asked excitedly. "Did you kill them?"
Zion remained silent for a moment, hesitating on what to say.
"About that..." he started, scratching his chin. "We beat the ships you saw, yeah..."
He paused for a moment, taking a step back so Koru could see through the front window.
"But now, these people are here to kill us."
Koru looked past Zion immediately, his mouth falling wide open as he stared at the massive ship.
He raised a finger, pointing at it, then glanced back at Zion. "That...?"
Zion nodded slowly.
Koru opened his mouth, then closed it a second later.
"Why... us?" he finally asked, a conflicted expression appearing on his face. "First that one ship, and now this larger ship."
He paused, glancing at the floor. "Is the universe really that... cruel?"
This time, it was Zion’s turn to be speechless.
’What do I even say?’ he thought, shaking his head lightly. ’It must be quite the shock for him.’
He knew the feeling well. It seemed like Koru had finally understood what it meant for someone’s life to be at risk every second of the day.
’I should just tell him the truth,’ he thought, closing his eyes briefly. ’If I hide that people are also after him, it’ll just put him in more danger in the long term.’
Finally, he let out a deep breath and spoke up.
"The universe is cruel, but at the same time, we are some special cases," Zion started, staring at the Titan-class ship through the window. "If we’d just been normal people, it would’ve ended after winning against the small scavenger ship."
Koru looked up, confusion flickering across his eyes.
"The people on that massive ship are here for you," Zion said, staring back at Koru. "They want to capture you and likely bring you to a research lab."
Koru’s eyes widened as he pointed at himself. "They are here for me?" he said. "But... why?"
His mind spun in confusion. Koru hadn’t done anything bad to anyone else, hadn’t had any conflicts after leaving his planet. Nothing.
"Your species is rare and strong," Zion responded, his voice hard. "That’s why there are many people who want to research your body to see if they can gain some benefits from it."
Koru’s expression hardened in an instant, a hint of fury flickering through his eyes as the realization hit him.
"Thank you," he said, locking eyes with Zion. "I understand now."
He undid the straps and stood up, staring at the ship.
"How do I fight them?" he asked. "Can we spin this ship around theirs and shoot them?"
Zion stared at Koru in surprise, then started chuckling.
"No," he said between chuckles. "We won’t be doing that."
Koru turned to him with a raised eyebrow.
"Instead," Zion continued, "we’ll be fighting them on the ground at Planet Heliax." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Hearing that, a glint of excitement appeared on Koru’s face. He punched his fists together, grinning wildly.
"I like it," he said.
"Good," Zion responded, turning toward the training room. "We have two and a half days to prepare ourselves."
He gestured toward the door. "So let’s go and do that."
Koru nodded, following after him immediately. They walked through the corridors together and entered the training room.
Once inside, Zion patiently explained what to expect from the enemies, followed by both of them showing each of their abilities in great detail.
Each new unique weapon Zion revealed left Koru standing with his mouth wide open in awe.
"Will our enemies have those things too?" he asked, pointing at Zion’s ruler’s halo.
Zion chuckled, shaking his head. "The chances are always there," he said. "But they’ll never be able to replicate this."
"Good," Koru said, letting out a sigh.
Then Zion’s eyes narrowed slightly. "But if you see something that doesn’t look like a standard weapon, call it out to me immediately."
Koru’s expression also turned serious as he nodded.
Like that, they began formulating their plan for the upcoming fight, both knowing it would likely be fought to the brink of death.
