I Married the President-Chapter 104: I Don’t Accept Insincere Thanks
Adrian Quincy said nonchalantly, "I’ve finished my business. I’ll wait for you to get off work, and then we can head back together."
"Huh?"
’How is he not busy anymore...’
Adrian Quincy sat down beside her, looking perfectly at ease. "Before Mrs. Hale left, she kept telling me how smart and quick-witted you are. She also mentioned wanting to invite you to visit her country when you have the chance. Would you like to travel to Country G?"
"I do—I don’t!"
"So do you want to or not?"
"If I have no one to go with, I don’t want to go."
Realizing she was just missing a companion, Adrian Quincy said, "When I have time, I’ll go with you."
"Great!" Even though she knew he would likely never have the time, she still felt incredibly happy.
And so, they fell into silence.
Just then, Phoebe Lockwood’s furious voice drifted in from outside. "Dad, you said you would back me up, but now you’re telling me to apologize? On what grounds?!"
"Vera, you were in the wrong this time. If you don’t apologize, I won’t be able to hold my head high in front of Young Master Quincy. Worse, you might not even be able to keep your job."
"Why wouldn’t I be able to keep it? Astoria Daily isn’t owned by the Quincys!"
Bernard Lockwood patiently tried to persuade her. "This afternoon, Young Master Quincy gave the order for Elder Hartwell to shake up Astoria Daily. You know your dad and Elder Hartwell don’t get along. If he really decides to make changes, I won’t have any say in the matter. Right now, the only way for you to stay is to apologize."
"Then fine, I’ll just quit!" But as soon as she said it, Phoebe Lockwood regretted it. "Waaah... But I can’t accept this! Dad, I want to keep working at Astoria Daily."
"There, there, sweetie. Just go apologize, and we’ll pretend this whole thing never happened. Elder Hartwell won’t touch you. As for that Claire Sinclair, let her be smug for now. We’ll just wait and see."
"Okay, Dad. I’ll do what you say..."
Having finally reached an agreement, the father and daughter left.
After hearing the conversation between the father and daughter, Claire Sinclair realized she had misunderstood someone.
’So when he said he had no authority to interfere with matters at Astoria Daily, it wasn’t that he was going to leave me to fend for myself, but that he was using the most reasonable and legitimate method available!’
’This guy always acts according to his own principles and boundaries. I’m starting to like him more and more!’
"Mr. Quincy, thank you."
"Thank me for what?"
"Nothing in particular. I just wanted to thank you."
"I don’t accept a thank-you that lacks sincerity."
Claire Sinclair raised an eyebrow. ’I’ve heard of apologies needing to be sincere, but a thank-you needs to be sincere too?’
"What kind of sincerity are you looking for?"
"Actions speak louder than words."
Claire Sinclair understood him almost instantly. On a sudden impulse, she turned and climbed onto him, straddling his lap. Then, she gave him a kiss that, despite her practicing it many times, still lacked any real finesse.
Adrian Quincy was pleasantly surprised, not expecting her to actually go through with it. After a moment, he responded to her kiss and gradually took the lead.
When passion deepened, it was hard to stop chemistry from taking over.
Sensing his body’s reaction, Claire Sinclair abruptly snapped to her senses. "Mr. Quincy... you... we can’t..."
He tightened his arms around her, his voice strained with control. "I can manage. Don’t move."
"Oh..."
Claire Sinclair didn’t dare move. She remained draped limply over him, listening to the sound of his breathing. Her own heart refused to calm down.
After what felt like a long time, Adrian Quincy finally regained his composure. He gently set her back down on the chair, then straightened his own clothes, which she had unintentionally disheveled.
Claire Sinclair tested her legs and, finding that she could move them again, stood up.
"Mr. Quincy, I can move again!"
"You should find time to see a doctor. A reporter’s legs can’t fail them when it counts."
