Chapter 85: Danger

The group continued advancing under Edward’s leadership, and the undead became more and more numerous.

They killed a good number of them, all of which gave them a lot of experience, so Edward was not only able to advance through the mine corridors, but also grew stronger.

[Fire Butterfly has reached Level 14...]

"This mine is really big. It didn’t look like that on the map," Arnold said, exasperated. "Are we lost?"

"Shh..." Edward silenced him and turned to look at Lander. "I heard something..." he reported.

Lander frowned and tried to concentrate, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t find anything. He shook his head. "It could have been an echo."

Although Edward frowned, he nodded. He looked at Aurora and she was just as alert, clearly she had heard something too.

’Either we’re both wrong, or Lander’s abilities are failing,’ Edward thought.

He had to take a deep breath and start walking again.

But then, the sound of screams suddenly reached them... At the same time as the sound of an explosion... It wasn’t coming from the front, but from behind.

Edward turned abruptly and in the darkness of the corridors, he could see red pupils walking towards them...

Those red pupils reminded him of those of the Death Knight, only they were a little peculiar... They burned with an unquenchable fire.

His flesh trembled.

Lich... It was a Lich.

The energy it gave off with every step caused him an inherent and terrifying fear, as if every muscle fiber and every vein in his body wanted to run away from there. His brain was constantly screaming at him about the danger...

But the Lich had thrown a fireball to destroy the rocks above him, and they had fallen to cover the entire hallway.

CLANK!

CLANK!

The sound of swords behind him, followed by screams, drove away all his fear. "Quick, we can’t let the Lich catch up to us!" Edward said, trying to lower his voice, but he couldn’t hide the urgency in his tone.

He, Aurora, and Arnold moved in unison, understanding the dangers. Lander was in shock, unable to move as quickly as they did, but perhaps it was fear that made him move before he was hit by magic.

He ran after the group, and Edward lunged at a pile of undead covering the entrance.

He could no longer conceal his power. Immediately, his Fire Butterfly appeared before him, and intense flames surrounded his sword. With a horizontal swing, he struck several fire beasts simultaneously and continued advancing.

His fire was not normal. Whether it was his beast’s ability or his magic, none of these fires were normal. They all had high and terrifying sustained damage, so even though he failed to kill several of them with one blow, they were left burning and their lives were being reduced step by step.

With Aurora’s control and Arnold’s diverse skills, the three were able to advance as a powerful unit and reach a huge room on the other side, where there was a small fortress built on the other side of a cliff, connecting this side with a rock bridge.

But there were a lot of undead and a few miners on the other side, looking through the windows of the fortress.

"God... there are too many of them." He looked and saw at least seven Death Knights.

There were about 20 Wights, and about 60 other undead.

This clearly couldn’t have come from a cemetery! If it had come from one, it would be the first cemetery to be wiped out by the powerful!

The entire army would immediately move in to destroy it!

After all, such an astonishing force would surely be from a Cursed Land with a strength in the C-Rank or higher. There were too many Death Knights, Wights, and various undead, plus a Lich, after all, and they had already killed a lot before.

In total, there were more than 100!

It was not something that first- and second-year students could complete.

As soon as they entered the room, they were exposed to all the undead, who targeted them.

"Use the items I gave you, let’s move quickly towards the small fortress so we can get out with the miners! This is not a mission we can accomplish!" Aurora shouted loudly and also stopped holding back.

Her power was unleashed in all directions as she began to use various items.

Advancing as a block, they were able to quickly reach the fortress. They killed several undead. Arnold’s abilities were extremely useful as a complement to Aurora’s control magic, but Edward’s magic was simply divine.

In addition, Edward’s title constantly informed him that it was being used, and his Fire Butterfly consumed the fire of some spells.

Between the three of them, they were able to protect Lander so that he could quickly reach the other side of the bridge...

Just then, the Lich emerged from the cave. His skeletal face terrified Edward’s group and the miners behind them, even more so the wizard’s robe he wore... He was a powerful Lich, although the system did not inform him of his level.

Suddenly, above them, a huge fireball appeared when the Lich raised his hand. "Die, humans," The fireball began to fall at great speed toward them.

Immediately, the Death Knights who were waiting for his orders acted, attacking in unison without leaving them any chance to escape.

Edward watched this combined attack and clenched his fists. "We can’t cross the bridge," he said suddenly.

Aurora nodded. "If we cross it, we’ll be doomed."

Arnold took a deep breath and then let out a long sigh. "That’s why it was better to stay put at the academy... Sigh, why did I even agree to let you guys form a temporary group in the first place?"

"I’m sorry." Edward apologized as he gripped his sword.

"Why are you apologizing?" Arnold scoffed. "It’s not like I’m here against my will."

"If it weren’t for me and my insistence on going in, we could have sought help when we realized there were more undead than expected." Edward apologized again.

"Don’t be silly." Aurora scolded him. "We’re in this together." She looked at Arnold. "Tell Lander to bring the miners to this side, we’ll run out the way we came in."

"Aren’t we going to fight these guys to the end?" Arnold asked. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

"Do you think you can beat them?" Aurora looked at him.

"No. I’m much more aware of my own power than you think."

"Then we’ll just run away. Even if the three of us fight, we won’t be able to kill them all." She looked up and to the sides. "Hurry, they’re getting closer."

She immediately stamped her foot and sent a strong wind to hold back the approach again. "I’ll buy you 10 seconds to do it. Edward, help me."

"All right. I guess I got myself into this mess too soon, so I’ll have to rely on my butterfly." Edward laughed and jumped forward.

The battle raged on, while Edward ran to draw the fireball’s attention away from the bridge.

Arnold ran across the bridge quickly. "Lander, the decision has been made. Tell all the miners to gather and start crossing the bridge when we give the signal. We’ll have to run away."

"Huh? T-that’s impossible!" Lander said. "Run away from a Lich? We’ll die!"

"We’ll die faster if we let them destroy the bridge. Then we’ll be roasted meat for all these undead, especially for the Lich capable of casting such powerful magic," Arnold scolded him. "Do as I say!"

Lander looked across the bridge... Aurora and Edward were fighting; Arnold was already coming back across the bridge to help them...

He stared at the fire wounds on those undead. It was a fire that could not be extinguished by anything and seemed to burn the undead too easily...

He gritted his teeth and turned to speak to the miners...

They were filled with fear, but they understood the logic of the Beast Masters and saw a glimmer of hope for salvation, so they decided to follow them.

They were a large group, about 100 miners.

"I’ll give you the signal." Lander waited patiently for someone on the other side to give him the signal, and when it came, he shouted. "Now!"

Immediately, a large group of people began running across the bridge.

Edward on the other side knew it was time to act more frantically. His head was about to explode; he had switched between his beasts too many times in the last few minutes, but he didn’t care.

Immediately, his earth caterpillar disappeared and the Wind Butterfly appeared. He took a deep breath as he synchronized with it... The headache intensified, but he endured it.

[Air Dissolution Dust: activated.]

Suddenly, a powder emerged from the Wind Butterfly and spread into the surrounding area. It was barely visible, arriving like a wind and quickly settling in the surroundings, unaffected by any movement.

Numerous effects were activated...

They only had 20 seconds.
