I Level Up Dragons with My Evolution System-Chapter 79: Wrong room
Lander stepped forward and stood right in the middle of the front door, but this time he didn’t use the rocks he had used before. Since the difficulty of the investigation had changed, he had to change his methods.
So he summoned his beast. A Scaly Earthworm emerged from Lander’s body and jumped nimbly to the ground, burrowing in and out repeatedly.
It was about two meters long and wriggled nimbly. It was a beast in its second evolution.
Lander’s eyes sparkled when they connected with hers, then he struck the ground. He immediately activated one of his spells, which caused a series of footsteps to appear on the ground, fading almost instantly after they appeared.
Lander’s snake began to follow them quickly, moving nimbly across the academy floor. No one knew if it was opening a hole in the ground or if its movement was powered by spiritual energy, but the fact is that it quickly reached one of the many rooms.
From beneath the earth, he could see a few people.
"There are twelve of them. Five are bound hand and foot, the others are scattered around the room, carrying weapons such as swords and spears," he said.
Edward nodded. "Seven kidnappers then, I thought there would be more." He finally stepped forward, with Aurora following close behind.
"We hope you’ll lead us there, let’s not make this long," Edward said, glancing sideways at Lander.
"All right." Lander immediately began walking and leading them.
It didn’t take them long to find the beasts of the dungeon, the Red Eagles.
They were all red, but they had a slight but important distinction that set them apart from each other. A stripe in the middle of their heads indicated the type of element they used to attack.
If it was a Red Eagle with a blue stripe on its head, it meant it was a wind-attribute beast. If it had a black stripe, it was a fire-attribute beast.
This distinction allowed Edward to attack them with terrifying precision as he switched between summoned beasts.
When he needed to kill a wind beast, he would bring out the wind caterpillar and keep it close to him, hidden to avoid attracting attention. If he needed to kill a fire beast, then he would bring out his Fire Butterfly.
With such a powerful group, the first instances of the dungeon were a breeze; there weren’t many eagles, perhaps because it was daytime.
They soon reached a crossroads with a large number of passageways. As soon as they did, Lander stepped forward to tell them where to go. "Follow me."
"Having someone from the Information Group makes the tasks easier, or is it because this mission is really simple that I feel that way?" Arnold asked suddenly, forcing a smile from Lander.
"It’s because of the mission. I don’t feel the tension I felt with the other one," Lander replied.
"Is it because of the strength of the targets?" Edward asked, curious.
"Yes. The ones I saw weren’t powerful enough to scare me, so we won’t have any problems."
"Well, the sooner we complete the mission, the better," Edward replied and looked at Lander. "By the way, what did you do with your share of the mission reward? Was it enough to buy resources?"
"I gave it to my parents, Edward. They’ve been trying to expand into other areas or move for years, and now that I’m starting to earn extra money, I’m going to support them in their plans," he replied sincerely.
Edward, Arnold, and Aurora were all surprised by the kind of man he was... He was someone they could trust.
Being able to give up your personal tastes or spending on your own growth to give your money to your parents for such a good cause was something only kind-hearted people and good children could do.
As they chatted idly but quietly, the hallway quickly became narrower and narrower, until they could only walk two abreast.
"This thing has gone on forever," Edward thought, and signaled for them to stop behind him to give him time to do what he knew how to do.
He sent his caterpillar into the cave, crawling like a worm. The slowness and controlled movements with which he did so prevented them from realizing at a glance that it was a summoned beast.
Soon it reached the cave... Edward frowned. He couldn’t see through the Caterpillar’s eyes, but he could sense.
"I don’t sense many presences," Edward said suddenly. "Could they have escaped?"
Lander looked at him, confused. "Really?"
Edward nodded...
"Let’s get closer anyway, let’s try to get as close as possible as quietly as possible," Aurora suggested.
Edward nodded again and they started walking again...
KYAAA!
The thunderous sound of an eagle suddenly alerted them and they all turned around to try to silence the eagle, but it didn’t attack them head-on. Instead, it created a strong wind spell that hit them and pushed them several feet back.
"Shit." Edward was alarmed... it was certain that the guys inside would be alerted.
Even so, there were no screams, just a loud roar from an eagle that caused a sharp pain in his ears.
Edward suddenly noticed the danger attacking them from behind and had to defend himself.
CLANK!
The force of the impact of a powerful wind magic in the form of a sharp weapon sent Edward rolling backwards, taking Lander with him in the process.
Then, the other eagle attacked them from behind, and Edward had to grab Lander to jump to the other side.
BOOM!
"Ed, it’s the Boss!" Aurora shouted as she jumped forward to face it.
"Why the hell are we in the boss’s room?" Edward rolled across the floor and got up to face the eagle.
"Leave it to me," Arnold said suddenly, jumping from the side. "He’s one of the mini-bosses of the dungeon. Find a way to help Lander, he looks like he’s hurt."
Arnold stood firm against the eagle and took out his powerful claw to jump at it and start a relentless fight.
Behind Edward, Aurora was having her moment against the boss.
"It’s a powerful boss," Edward thought.
The mini-boss wasn’t that powerful, just a little stronger than the Wights of the Cursed Land, so Arnold would have no trouble. But the boss was another story.
In terms of power, it was more powerful than the Death Knight, much stronger. Perhaps it was level 30 or higher.
Although Aurora was strong, there were numerous spells she couldn’t activate while in a cave, and besides, she was from the Control Group, not a combat mage.
Edward knew he had to hurry. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
He glanced quickly at Lander, who looked away. "I’m sorry, Edward... I made a mistake."
Edward crouched down in front of him and gave him a potion. "You don’t need to apologize. We are weak, we are prone to making mistakes," he said.
"Did you break any bones?"
"Yes." Lander gritted his teeth as Edward tried to put his knee back in place. Some of the bones in his left foot were also badly damaged. "The boss’s magic hit me."
"How did it hit him?" Edward wondered. He had clearly managed to stop him... "I made a serious mistake there."
He shook his head to clear his pessimistic thoughts. "You don’t need to fight, stay here," he said and got up.
"Edward, we have to hurry. Although this wasn’t the tunnel, it’s surely the one next door. They must have heard this commotion and know we’re coming for them," said Lander.
"I know, don’t worry. Keep moving outward, we’ll finish quickly." Without thinking, Edward jumped in to help Arnold.
His figure moved at great speed and his sword attacked with a horizontal movement with a fragile but highly precise cut.
The attack barely opened any wounds, but it allowed him to complete a full combo of precise movements. His figure danced to the sound of the blow and the bird’s cry, while on the other side, a guy much more powerful than Edward completed the attack with a powerful claw that pierced the eagle’s chest and destroyed its heart.
Between the two of them, killing this beast was relatively easy.
"I can’t use fire because I don’t want to burn up the oxygen, so we’ll have to fight with what little we have," said Edward, coming close to Arnold as he watched the beast Aurora was fighting.
"Well, it’s time to show off your talent, Edward." Arnold patted him on the shoulder. "Two masters of different attributes, when they join forces, form a powerful group."
"Don’t put too much faith in me as a member of the Control Group," Edward scoffed. "But I’ll do my best. I’ll be the tank this time."
Both of them immediately jumped in to help Aurora.
By the time Edward reached the beast, the caterpillar that had been on the ground and had slipped between the eagle’s legs when it was on the ground was already bound by Aurora’s magic.
Suddenly, the earth began to move upward and clung tightly to the eagle’s legs, as if it were a hand in formation. The eagle couldn’t get out of the earth in the short term, but it did manage to attack with a powerful roar that created powerful wind magic.
Edward took the full brunt of it...
BOOM!
His body rolled backwards, but he laughed.
"Sediment Skin... Good magic," he muttered, his arms intact. He mentally calculated the time he had left before the magic wore off. "30 seconds? Enough time."
