Chapter 74: Final words.

Edward looked at the parchment in his hand and then looked at Aurora.

She gave him a questioning look. "What’s wrong?" she asked.

’Didn’t she notice?’ he thought, and showed her the parchment...

Aurora had a question mark on her face; she didn’t understand what Edward wanted to show her.

"Can’t you see it?" He was shocked.

"It looks like you received something from a remnant," Arnold said suddenly, coming up behind them.

They both turned around. "A remnant?" they asked.

"Are you referring to the scroll?" Edward asked after the coordinated question.

"I don’t know what it is, no one but you can see it. But I saw the little bird," he replied. "It’s a remnant of an anomaly, something that only we, the members of the Anomaly Group, can leave behind. If it’s here, it means its owner is dead, and if you could see it, it means you were its target."

Edward looked again at the parchment in his hand and frowned... Someone who could have left something like this here...

He quickly opened the parchment.

--Young Lord Lux, if you are seeing this, it is because I am already dead. Unfortunately, my power worked this way, and I have no other choice.

Honestly, I knew this would happen. I am leaving this message only because I want to help you, even if only a little, to warn you on your path.

Your father, Lord Lux, was a great man with many secrets who always sought the collective good. Thanks to this, I got to know him over the years and we became good friends, but I always believed that this would ultimately be his downfall.

How can you be benevolent in a world that penalizes benevolence? Haha... But that was your father’s charm and the reason your mother chose him.

When I first saw you all and learned you were sent by the Armed Forces, I initially thought: They were sent to kill me. After you revealed you were going to kill the traitor, I had a glimmer of hope... But in the end, I understood.

Linnava is a nest of rats, Young Master. There are so many things I could say, but I have so little space and time that I cannot do so.

As I write this, I can even hear the footsteps of the soldiers... or the footsteps of the traitorous rats coming to kill me.

Young Master... I don’t have time to tell you everything. But don’t trust Linnava.

Linnava is capable of stabbing you in the back with a sword, just for a small benefit.

If you don’t trust my words, remember the state you found me in. Remember that your father is now a miner who suffers under the shadows of his past. Remember your mother... even though you never got to know her.

I hear footsteps... Young Master. They’re coming for me.

Those incessant footsteps echo in the hallways, adding to my nightmares...

I knew my time had come when I understood that you were sent by Linnava to get rid of me. Although you had a huge heart to save me and protect my daughter from the injustices of the world, they will not have the same heart.

I only hope that my little Clara can be saved.

Please take care of yourself...

-Silas Merchant, "The Internist of Varhat."

A feeling of heaviness struck him and slowly became heavier and heavier. More and more complex. More and more... dangerous.

His mind went blank for many minutes, until he breathed with determination.

’I need to get stronger,’ he thought.

He didn’t understand what had happened to his father, but from Silas’ words, he was perhaps not an ordinary miner. Perhaps his current situation was due to betrayal.

The problem was that he was trapped in this place that was now his home, but tomorrow could be his noose around his neck...

’I must become stronger,’ he repeated to himself and clenched his fists. The scroll in his hand disappeared at that moment, as if by magic.

Only the remnant of a voice remained...

A scream, an echo from the recent past. The last sound emitted by its creator.

It was a scream of pain, of anguish, of despair... but also of hatred.

He would surely never forget that scream.

"Edward, is something wrong?" Aurora asked, approaching him.

"Mr. Silas is dead," he replied.

"Was it a message from him?" Arnold frowned. "No wonder he felt familiar..."

"It’s not specified whether Clara also died, so I’d like to look for her. She might have more important information than we currently have," Edward replied and looked at Aurora.

She beat her chest. "If she’s alive, I’ll find her no matter what."

"Thank you." Edward caressed her face lightly. "Don’t blame yourself for what happened here, it’s not your fault."

Aurora still lowered her head and, almost without thinking, moved closer to him and hugged him tightly. She didn’t say a word, she just hugged him.

Arnold had to turn around and walk away, leaving the loving couple to have their moment.

"Hey, Ed." Aurora spoke from his chest. "Can we sleep together tonight?" she asked, her voice sounding like a mosquito’s... almost inaudible.

Edward was surprised and lowered his head to look at her. Her beautiful eyes stared at him, showing that she was serious.

He understood what that meant... and smiled.

"Will you be my girlfriend, Aurora?" he asked suddenly. "Before, I was afraid I wasn’t good enough... But now I want to show you that I’m more than enough."

Even Aurora was stunned by his question. It wasn’t the first time they had talked about it, but for a little over a year now, she felt that Edward had changed. She felt that he had distanced himself from her a little...

Her feelings weren’t just a woman’s sixth sense; in fact, they were real.

’Since my transmigration, I thought that getting close to her would be taking advantage of her, because I’m not the one she remembers,’ he thought.

But things had changed.

Why distance yourself from someone who constantly shows you that she love and care for you? That would be a slap in the face to his own destiny and karma.

He didn’t need to do that.

Aurora responded by crouching down, and one of the most beautiful faces in the Kingdom of Linnava had her lips pressed against those of a man with yellow hair and blue eyes, who stood out naturally.

"Even if your surname is cursed, I will face that curse with you. I am Aurora Ashford, and I have never feared death. If death comes to claim you, I will plunge a sword into its forehead!" She swore her answer with determination.

That night, they both slept in a hotel in the city, the best of them, in one of the best rooms. They allowed the longing desire of their two souls to finally bear fruit and receive its long-awaited reward.
