I Level Up Dragons with My Evolution System-Chapter 69: Traitor
One of the spears aimed for his heart, while behind him, a sword threatened to cut his throat.
Lander clenched his fists. ’I have to explode this. Edward, hurry!’ he roared inside his head and reached into his chest pocket. He dodged the first blows with agile movements.
He was not a fighter. He never had been, and although he had recently been training with Edward, he had not managed to delve too deeply into sword techniques, only learning to move better.
Although his fists were quite strong and he could use them this time, he did not want to show it while Edward and the others had not arrived yet; that would ruin the plans!
Even so, he soon realized that he didn’t have many alternatives.
Clara was going to die at any moment... He needed to activate the mechanisms they had prepared.
He took a deep breath. ’I hope they’re close by,’ he prayed in his heart and clenched the hand on his chest.
A magical tool shattered in his hand. And suddenly, the earth shook.
RUMBLE!
BOOOOM!
A series of explosions echoed and shook the ground.
His field of vision was slightly shaken by the tremor, causing Lander to lose sight of Clara for a moment. He staggered backward, but quickly regained his composure and took advantage of the chaos to get closer to Clara.
Even so...
He was too far away.
’Damn it.’
He looked around and noticed that none of them were heading exclusively towards her... ’Do they want to kill me and Miss Mery first?’ He assumed they wanted to capture Clara... Or that she was the traitor who had betrayed them.
But suddenly he witnessed something.
A red dagger flashed near Clara and stabbed her in the side. Clara shuddered and tried to run away, but the dagger pierced her through to the other side, with pieces of flesh and lots of blood.
"Huh?" She realized she had been attacked from behind. She immediately doubted Lander... she felt a strong remorse for believing in Edward.
But when she turned around, a recognizable and memorable face came into view. The face of her best friend, who now looked at her with a terrible vicious expression.
Amidst the explosions, screams, and pain, Clara was lost in that horrendous, unrecognizable expression on the face of the most trustworthy woman she believed she had by her side... it was as if time had stopped for her.
"M-Mery... you..." Her stammer was met with coldness as Mery simply dropped her to the ground and threw the dagger after her.
Then, two guards passed by her without harming her and lunged at Clara. Mery remained untouched behind them, watching her.
Lander had let his guard down by the shock... he discovered the traitor.
But it was too late.
Suddenly, his body was struck hard by a sharp sword that sent him flying to the right, opening a huge wound in his body.
"Haha... it’s been a good hunt this time, Mery. You’ve been a good girl." Scylas laughed from his seat and immediately stood up and looked at five guards. "Go see what those explosions are. I feel like..."
BOOOM!
Scylas’ words were cut off when the door behind him was blown to pieces and he suddenly felt his body being sent forward like a comet, held in a strange claw.
The smile on his face disappeared and was replaced by an expression of intense terror... His body trembled.
Blood spurted from his body, but he could do nothing to defend himself. He was powerless in the face of adversity.
He could only listen... and watch.
"Scylas Merchant has been found guilty of treason against the Kingdom of Linnava! By order of the Kingdom, Scylas Merchant and all his guards must die!" Edward roared from the other room as he emerged behind Arnold’s body, which had its strange claw pointing forward.
Edward didn’t walk out. He shot forward and delivered a powerful kick to one of the guards attacking Lander. They had armor on their bodies, but their heads were completely unprotected.
Faced with such a strong kick, his head was embedded in the wall... He died instantly.
Meanwhile, Aurora killed two who were trying to grab Clara and fixed her sword to Mery’s neck.
Mery had not been able to enjoy her victory... and was already on the verge of death.
Clara had not been able to understand the betrayal... And had she been saved?
Not even Scylas could understand this turn of events, until he saw a man coughing behind him.
"Young people today are really strong," Silas muttered aloud as he limped away, aided by makeshift wooden crutches he had torn from the wooden bed where Scylas slept.
Scylas suddenly trembled... Clara too.
She turned abruptly. She ignored her injuries. "Father!" she cried and stood up. But her injuries were too severe. Her body fell forward.
"Clara!" Silas quickly moved and reached her. "Don’t move," he scolded her.
"Father... it’s really you..."
"It’s me. Don’t move." Although it broke Silas’s heart to see his daughter cry, he looked at Edward. "Young Master... Please. You promised me. Her wound is..." Before he could even speak, Edward was already in front of him and gave Clara a potion.
’High-level potion.’ Silas recognized it immediately.
This potion helped her greatly to stop the bleeding and heal her slowly but steadily.
When he saw that the bleeding had stopped and the tissues were beginning to regenerate, he sighed with relief and smiled at his daughter.
"It’s not a potion that can be paid for with smiles," Edward reminded him, before turning and looking at the guards, although his gaze did not linger on them, but continued on to Scylas’ body still pinned to the wall.
He signaled to Arnold, who dropped him, and Edward walked over to him. "Show me what you said, Mr. Silas. Although we already have enough evidence against him, if I want to get rid of the problem at its root, I need to see more."
’Even if it’s just to convince myself that killing is okay,’ Edward thought with an internal sigh. He couldn’t say that. He understood that he was the leader of the raid, and if the leader showed weakness, the whole team would be weakened.
Silas sighed and looked at his daughter once more. He smiled at her, stroked her head, and stood up. "I have a request before that. Although you don’t have to grant it if you don’t want to."
"Go ahead," Edward nodded.
"Let me kill Scylas." Even though he was talking about killing his "twin brother," the coldness of his words was terrifying.
But even Edward could understand him.
"You can do it," Edward replied firmly, still not taking his eyes off Scylas.
Silas sighed with relief upon hearing this. "Thank you, young master. I know you have many questions for me, but I will answer them another time," he said and turned away.
