Chapter 53: First Touch with Magic

At the same time, at the Shooting Range, all the students were trying to understand what Affinity was.

One of them fell to the ground, feeling intense heat inside, as if he were burning.

"Hah... Hah..." His breathing was erratic, and he had to put his hands on the ground to support himself.

Kael Vorren seeing that he was not the only one, spoke. "That is Affinity. Since you have a fire beast, you will feel heat. But you must learn to control it. I told you to feel the Affinity, not to exploit it. Feeling and trying to use it without measure are not related concepts."

Just then... one of the less talented ones let out a cry, his body convulsed, and he immediately fell to the ground.

Kael Vorren stared at him. "That’s what will happen to you if you try to exploit it from the start," he sneered. "Fortunately, if you have even a modicum of talent, it shouldn’t happen to you."

"Professor, he’s..." A student looked at the fallen body...

"He’s alive. No one dies at this stage. He’s just fighting against his trash talent," Kael replied. "Keep trying. Feel the affinity, don’t try to use it!"

Seconds later... 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

Robert raised his hands forward, his eyes shining. The summoned lion took a small leap, standing firmly and roaring forward.

Then, crushing magic in the form of a paw came out of Robert’s hand. The force of that magic stirred the wind around, distracting those who were trying.

"Agh." The pain hit someone nearby...

And the magic approached one meter outside Robert’s hand in the form of a lion’s claw, until it dispersed.

Kael Vorren’s eyes sparkled. "Amazing. Wonderful. Rank D magic!" He quickly approached. "Not only did you sense the affinity and recognize the flow immediately, but you also tried to use it... That’s impressive, well done, Robert!"

Robert smiled. "Thank you, Professor. It was easier for me thanks to the Mark of Learning." He acknowledged it.

Kael laughed heartily. "Well done, you’ve learned well in such a short time! I see enormous potential in you for the future, keep it up!"

Faced with Kael’s continuous praise, the other students couldn’t help but look at Robert with envy and admiration... A true talent.

Robert looked around. "Professor, will they be okay?" he asked, looking at those who were struggling to understand what affinity was.

"They’ll be fine, it’s the price they pay for not having talent," Kael replied vaguely.

Robert nodded, though he looked concerned. He thought about a few things and suddenly spoke aloud.

"Friends, I understand that you are desperate to learn magic... I am too, after seeing that. But don’t overdo it. Talent can be a burden, so learn from the other classes as well. Survival is very good for you. If you can’t handle magic, devote time to improving your bodies," he said.

"After all, you can’t force your bodies and beasts to use something they simply can’t use."

His words touched the most foolish ones. ’He cares about us...’ they thought. They praised him more and even thanked him.

But a few mocked him inside. ’Using sweet words to tell us we’re trash.’

Although they couldn’t deny it either...

Kael Vorren chuckled softly. "Listen to a true talent. Getting caught up in magic isn’t for you, and that’s okay. Grab a sword and fight with it. Some people are just meant to be swordsmen." The hint of mockery at the end, considering his closeness to Edward, was meant to throw him off.

But Edward was so absorbed in his training that he didn’t even hear it...

Suddenly, Edward opened his eyes and thrust his hand forward.

Something came out of his hand. It was small, barely a spark, but it was magic.

The spark of fire wasn’t fast, in fact, it was surprisingly slow, but it moved steadily forward until it lightly tapped Kael Vorren’s skin, where it finally failed.

Kael quickly withdrew his hand. "What are you doing, you bastard?!" he roared.

Edward frowned when he found Kael on his shooting range track.

’What is this idiot doing here?’ he growled internally, but when he saw Robert watching him and the idiotic faces looking at Robert with admiration, he understood.

’Ah.’ He sighed.

"I didn’t realize." Edward apologized plainly.

"You...!" Kael roared and wanted to curse him several times, but he frowned and looked at his arm.

Why the hell was it burning, if he faced a measly E-rank magic, which also failed?!

Kael was stunned to see that the section of his arm that had been hit was red-hot. It had pierced his natural defenses. The damage wasn’t spreading, but it felt like it was burning terribly.

His mind was filled with confusion. He wanted to take out a potion to drink, but everyone was watching him, so he simply took a few steps until he was behind them, when he finally took a potion.

"Hmph." He snorted. "Get back to learning!" He roared, though filled with shame. It was his fault for being so careless in front of magic. The researchers were right; when you’re careless, even low-level magic can kill you.

But suddenly he froze...

’Wait. Was that magic?’ He swallowed exaggeratedly and looked back.

All the students were just like him, staring at Edward in shock.

The least talented among them had cast magic. While it was a measly E-rank Spark, among the lower-level E-rank magic, it was magic!

Hadn’t he just said that some were only meant to use a sword?

Kael shuddered... his face felt sore as if he had been slapped.

He couldn’t stay like this.

He stepped forward. "Hey, you." He looked behind Edward. "What the hell are you doing?" he asked.

Edward turned around. "What am I doing?" He tilted his head. "Learning magic, isn’t that what you told us to do?"

"Pfft..." A laugh escaped from the mouth of one of the onlookers.

Kael blushed with embarrassment, but he held it in.

"I mean, you just shot fire..."

"That’s right. It burned, so, yes, it was fire."

Kael’s forehead tightened with rage... This bastard was clearly mocking him... ’Calm down...’ He took a deep breath.

"Yes, indeed, it burned. But the caterpillar on your arm is earth, right?"

Edward nodded. "It is."

"Then why are you learning fire instead of earth? Don’t you know the basics of a Beast Master?" he asked.

Edward blinked a couple of times. "Basics?"
