I have an Apocalypse City-Chapter 859 - 860 Residence_1
Chapter 859: Chapter 860 Residence_1
Song Jian followed Meng Tiantian into a rather shabby-looking stone house. As he entered, he was struck by a blinding beam of light and couldn’t help but shield his eyes with a hand;
Once he had adjusted to the room’s light, he was startled to discover that he had come to an island. Warm sunlight was overhead, and the sea water gently lapped around him. Even the air carried a faint salty, fishy scent;
This place was supposed to be an underground space, and although it was fully equipped with electric lights, it still felt somewhat dim compared to the outside world. However, the scene before him made Song Jian feel as though he had passed through a Teleportation Gate to another location;
Looking back, a wooden door stood incongruously behind him, completely out of place with the surrounding scenery;

At the moment, he and Meng Tiantian were standing on a pristine white sand beach where an old man, dressed in Hawaiian-style shorts, was lazily reclining in a chair, sipping juice and basking in the sun. Around him, a pair of seagulls soared in the air, occasionally swooping down to steal some dried fruit snacks beside the lounger;
Meng Tiantian, having evidently been to this place many times before, showed no sign of surprise. Instead, she ran up to the old man, picked up the untouched glass of juice, and took a big gulp. Then, letting out a refreshed sigh, she grabbed some of the dried fruit snacks from beside her and popped them into her mouth;
...
“I say, Tiantian, you always use some excuse to come here and nibble away. If you keep this up, be careful I might never let you in again,” the old man, with his eyes closed in repose, sighed and slowly opened his eyes;
Song Jian, looking into those eyes that seemed filled with the vicissitudes of the ages, thought he saw a universe flare into existence and then extinguish in an instant within them. Yet, when he came back to his senses and looked again, he saw nothing out of the ordinary. The old man before him appeared no different from those frail, hunched-over elders in the real world, those that seemed as though a gust of wind could knock them down.
“This time it’s different; I’m here to introduce a player to settle here!” Meng Tiantian said, cheeks full and speaking with some difficulty.
“Player?” The old man looked toward Song Jian with a smile across his face, yet there was a strange sparkle in his eyes. In that instant, Song Jian felt as if the old man could see right through him, which made him uncomfortable. He couldn’t help but frown;
“Hmm, your perception is very strong, young man. Your spirit attribute must have already broken a hundred, right?” The old man’s face showed a curious tinge, and he nodded, saying, “You can call me Mu Xianzhi, old Mu, or just old man like the girl does if you prefer!”
Mu Xianzhi stood up, gripping a wooden cane next to his chair, and shuffled towards the back of the beach. Behind a huge rock, he fumbled for a moment and then pulled out a badge that emanated a golden glow, returning and handing it to Song Jian, “Drop a drop of blood on it, and it will belong to you. You will be able to freely enter any area from the first to the thirteenth level!”
“A golden badge, old man, are you sure he qualifies for this?” Meng Tiantian exclaimed in surprise.
You see, ordinary players, when they come here, can at most receive a silver-quality badge, allowing them to enter only up to the twelfth level, never the thirteenth. Without enough Contribution Points, it is impossible to obtain a golden-quality badge;
The Mage who had assessed the qualifications before was arduously accumulating experience and earning Contribution Points, hoping to enhance the quality of his badge. Moreover, if Hao Dong wanted to settle here too, at most he’d be able to use a silver badge, albeit with some additional permissions.
“His strength is more than enough to be the Guardian of this little island. Don’t you trust the old man’s judgment?” Mu Xianzhi glanced at Meng Tiantian as he spoke.
“Alright, if the old man thinks he can do it, then he definitely can,” Meng Tiantian said, rubbing her nose.
“Guardian, what is that?” Song Jian fiddled with the badge in his hand, asking;
This was a badge made in the real world, with no attributes, but Song Jian discovered that inside the badge there was a tiny electronic chip.
“It’s just an identity, with it you can have a place to live on this small island, you can open a shop like me, or even build a villa, whatever you like. Plus, you can freely enter and exit the thirteenth layer. Actually, only players who can enter the thirteenth layer are considered real island residents!” Meng Tiantian explained, showing off her own badge as she spoke, “If I weren’t an Alchemy Grandmaster, I wouldn’t have been able to get such a badge!”
Meng Tiantian’s badge, also golden, was displayed briefly and then tucked back into her chest;
“Alright, that settles it!” Mu Xianzhi slouched lazily back into his chair and said to Song Jian, “Go have a look at the thirteenth layer first. If you like, you can report your game identity and activity area, and maybe you’ll get some help. Of course, you can also lend a hand to others, and that’s also a way to earn Contribution Points. For the true residents of the island, Contribution Points are as valuable as Doomsday Coins, you can never have too many. Tiantian, take him to pick out a place to live, I don’t mind that you just snuck some of my drink and snacks.”
After leaving Mu Xianzhi’s stone house, Song Jian and Meng Tiantian returned to the dimly lit streets;
“Do you need me to take you to the thirteenth layer? The guide fee is just ten Contribution Points,” Meng Tiantian said with a smile;
“I just got this badge, how could I possibly have any Contribution Points? Are you saying you can run a tab here?” Song Jian asked;
“Every newbie’s badge comes with ten Contribution Points!” Meng Tiantian chuckled, a sly look in her eyes.
After hesitating for a moment, Song Jian still shook his head, “No thanks, let’s head to the living quarters first, it’s almost time to enter the game.”
“Such a miser!” Meng Tiantian rolled her eyes and said, “Which layer do you plan to live on? The lower you go, the smaller the living space, the higher, the larger it gets. If you’re willing to live in the underground first layer, you can have a three-hundred-square-meter residence!”
The third underground layer is mostly inhabited by ordinary people, living there has no meaning, it’s better to go down a bit. Although the environment is worse, most of the neighbors are players, making it easier to interact;
“Let’s stay on this layer, having more players around is better!” Song Jian said;
“Oh, right, the little building next to mine seems to be vacant, why don’t you live there? It’ll be more convenient for you to deliver materials to me in the future,” Meng Tiantian suggested. “But that place used to be inhabited by an Undead Sorcerer, and it seems there’s still a restless spirit lingering inside. If you live there, you could conveniently take care of it!”
