I have a wildlife zoo-Chapter 665 - 664: Lively Otter
A little lion paced back and forth beside Fang Ye, scraping at his clothes with its paws and sniffing around with its head bowed.
It playfully leaped onto Fang Ye's back, resting its paws on his shoulders and licking his neck with its tongue.
This was Didi, the same one that was stuck in a tree fork the last time, an energetic and lively character, always on the move.
Zhazha seemed to have inherited Qiqi's traits, appearing serious-faced.
But she was still quite obedient, lying beside Fang Ye and letting him touch her nose.
The little lioness Meimei was sweet and pretty, letting Fang Ye scratch her soft belly—utterly adorable.
Qiqi watched the little lions from a distance, envious and jealous of the affection between Fang Ye and the cubs.
It seemed he wanted to assert his parental authority, bellowing loudly!
You all remember, the boss here is me!
Now that the little lions had grown up, they understood Qiqi's authority, unlike in their childhood when they knew nothing and could bully Qiqi, biting his tail and climbing all over him.
Though they still teased Qiqi, as soon as he got angry, they didn't dare be presumptuous anymore.
Baba was bolder and had a thicker skin, one of the few daring enough to continue teasing Qiqi.
Startled by Qiqi's roar, he just shook his ears as if nothing happened.
When Qiqi roared at the other little lions, they looked somewhat cowed. Didi slid behind Fang Ye in an instant, and Leelee also turned over to lean close to Fang Ye, seeking courage from him.
Seeing this, Fang Ye felt annoyed and flung a slipper at Qiqi, "Hey, how can you roar at the kids!"
This time it was Qiqi's turn to feel intimidated!
Even though the slipper didn't hit him, his head instinctively shrank back.
His expression seemed somewhat aggrieved—it was just a roar, and you threw the ultimate weapon, a slipper, at me.
Kaka looked at Fang Ye with a silly expression and softly growled at Qiqi, seemingly advising him, "The zookeeper is very fond of the little lions, so don't throw a temper when he's around!"
"Such a majestic lion is afraid of the zookeeper's slipper?"
Amamiya Kokoro, upon witnessing Fang Ye discipline Qiqi with a slipper, couldn't help but exclaim, "What an incredible person! Oh no, I almost forgot to take a photo!"
"Click, click," she snapped a few pictures.
After this visit to the zoo, she would post the photos on her social circle and tell her friends in Japan about her zoo adventure today: the adorable giant pandas, the magical zookeeper who pets lions and tigers.
...
After watching the lions for a while, they had a meal at the animal-themed restaurant!
The scenery here was also quite nice, with the sweet osmanthus in bloom, dangling clusters of little golden flowers from the treetops, a fresh and gentle fragrance drifting in the breeze.
The clear stream babbled, and colorful koi fish frolicked in the water.
It was a scene that unconsciously relaxed the mind.
Some visitors were eating and chatting happily beside them.
"The new local exhibition area is really good!"
"Yeah, the beauty rat snake exhibit with its rustic setting makes it feel just like going back to the countryside, so comforting!"
"Indeed magnificent! The otters are also very cute."
Liu Wei listened with a tilted ear to the conversation of the visitors and grew curious—was there a new local exhibition area? It seemed quite interesting.
He turned to Amamiya Kokoro and asked, "Are we going to continue exploring the zoo this afternoon or head back to school?"
Having walked the whole morning, Amamiya Kokoro felt a bit tired, but she had enjoyed watching the animals so much that she said wistfully, "Let's wander around a bit more!"
"Sure!"
Liu Wei was more than happy to agree, since he was there to accompany his sister anyway, and wouldn't have been interested in going alone.
After thinking for a bit, "How about we stroll around the native species exhibition area? It seems to be a new area, with otters, and I haven't been there yet."
"Yes, yes! I really like otters too!"
Checking the map, the native species exhibition area was behind the rice fields of the little farm.
In front of the alpaca enclosure, Amamiya Kokoro saw the alpacas with their various appearances and couldn't stop laughing, "These alpacas are so funny, hey~"
She waved hello.
Carslan was chewing hay elegantly, surrounded by several visitors who were feeding it, taking pictures, and petting its fur.
Bucktooth saw someone waving and, with a mysterious smile, walked over to them at a leisurely pace.
Sticking its head out of the railing, Amamiya Kokoro got the friendly and charmingly ugly creature's character, gently stroked its head, "Kawaii~"
The path leading to the native species exhibition area was between the alpaca enclosure and the rice field, where ducks quacked and swam around the lush green rice leaves.
Full of curiosity, Amamiya Kokoro asked, "Why is there farming in the zoo?"
Liu Wei explained, "Right, the zoo isn't just a place for showcasing animals for entertainment, but also a site for learning and education."

Amamiya Kokoro nodded, "Mhm!"
"Like, the worse zoos might just do science education for show, just putting up a random sign.
But Linhai Zoo takes it seriously; they engage in various forms of science education. This farm, for instance, introduces organic farming. They don't use pesticides or fertilizers; instead, they let ducks eat the weeds, which is more environmentally friendly, and the rice grown like this is better for the environment.
This organic farm demonstrates how humans and nature should coexist harmoniously."
"Oh, I see~"
Amamiya Kokoro's favorable impression of Linhai Zoo grew a bit more.
The otter area!
The environment here looked just like a wild creek.
Sunshine reflected on the undulating surface of the water, where several black shapes moved swiftly through the water.
On the grass by the creek, an otter lay on its back as if sunbathing, with a white pebble in its hand that it was playfully tossing around.
Though its eyes were closed, the pebble kept tumbling from its front paws, to its chest, to its back paws, without ever dropping to the ground.
It was like a skilled athlete, the ball adhering to its body as if tied with an invisible string, never falling off however it was kicked or nudged.
For otters, playing with pebbles is a form of entertainment similar to playing basketball or soccer.
"Wow, that's amazing!"
"So agile!"
"A natural-born acrobat indeed!"
The visitors couldn't stop exclaiming!
Another otter, seemingly envious of its playmate's fun, ran over trying to snatch away the smooth pebble.
But this otter was also vigilant and, noticing its companion's intent, immediately hugged the pebble protectively to its chest with its paws.
Since the stream bed was covered with pebbles, not managing to grab one didn't matter; it simply found another to play with.
The animal keeper introduced with a smile, "These otters, they are small-clawed otters!
In Linhai, we have Eurasian otters living here; theoretically, our native species exhibition area should showcase Eurasian otters, but they are nocturnal, don't come out during the day, and usually live solitary lives. That's why we display the small-clawed otters.
Small-clawed otters live near water, usually dig burrows along the riverbank to make their nests, and form groups of 2 to 10 individuals that live together. When their territory is invaded, they defend it collectively, mainly communicate through sound and mark their territory with scent."
