Chapter 142 Not now

Luo Xiaolei saw his jaws tightened. And then, the gentleness in his eyes disappeared once again. Abruptly, it became gloriously intense, much more severe than the intensity he showed her just a while ago.

Looking at him and feeling his extremely intimidating aura leaking out again, Luo Xiaolei felt her pulse quickening. She could see the obvious wariness and reluctance in his eyes.

And again, he seemed to be wavering and was being torn by some arduous internal conflict inside him. This Yu Chen right before her was undoubtedly fearsome. But as always, the security that she was feeling whenever she was with him was just way stronger than any fear, despite him looking like a quiet, dangerous and untamed beast that could snap at any moment.

Bu then, there was one thing that was scarier than his devil mode right now. And thinking about it made Luo Xiaolei couldn't help but feel anxious. It was because, everything that this man was showing to her right now was obviously telling her something; that he was acting like this because her question was…

'Don't tell me... my question is... it's that one thing he didn't want to reveal just yet!!'

Luo Xiaolei's eyes turned wide in disbelief. But she forced herself to calm down.

She breathed deeply and finally, she was able to speak.

"Yu Chen… c-could it be that my question is… it is that one thing you didn't want to answer?" her voice was faint.

When saw Yu Chen's eyes constricted, a surge of emotions crashed like waves in her chest. She struggled to keep her eyes locked on his, not showing any sign of backing down as she waited for his answer.

Finally, after another long while, she saw his Adam's apple bobbed up and down and then he opened his lips unwillingly, forcefully.

"You're… you're right. It's… connected to it." He whispered. His husky voice sounded pained.

Luo Xiaolei gasped in utter disbelief. She was confused. She never expected that that one thing he was talking about was actually about her. Why? Does this mean that the reason why he approached her that night was actually nothing simple? This means that him, approaching her that night wasn't something coincidental?! Then why? What's the reason behind it? And why, of all things, he had to keep it a secret from her?

"Why?" Luo Xiaolei couldn't stop herself. This revelation was just so shocking she could hardly think.

But then, suddenly, a heartbreaking agony glimmered in his dark eyes, causing Luo Xiaolei's heart to skip a beat. The countless question in her mind doubled as soon as she saw that certain emotion in his eyes. What worse was that she was suddenly feeling heart broken and she didn't know why.

"I… I…" Yu Chen's lips curved back over his perfect teeth. Luo Xiaolei never seen him struggled this hard for words before. She could sense just how hard it was for him.

"I'm sorry." He said as he covered his eyes with his palm and Luo Xiaolei realized that he wasn't going to give anything away. Not now.

The curiosity was killing her but… seeing this little devil acting like this was also… killing her. Why did he have to act like this over this matter? Why did he have to look like he was in pain and agony?

Questions just kept coming and even though she was not getting any answer from him right now, she just knew that after this… some things will change.

Luo Xiaolei stretched out her hand and landed it at the back of his palm which was covering his eyes. She cautiously and slowly held his hand and pulled it away from his face.

Once their eyes met, they stared at each other for a moment, and then, Luo Xiaolei smiled.

"It's okay. I can wait. But please don't make me wait long, okay? Because you now, my patience is extremely terrible." She grinned, keeping her face composed as he scrutinized her face.

Finally, the man's jaw cautiously relaxed. And then, he pulled her in his arms.

"Thank you," he uttered, and she felt something touched her hair. She immediately thought it was his lips and it unexpectedly made her ears felt a bit hotter.

"But you know, I am dying with curiosity right now. Even though I agreed with your request, can you give me an answer soon? Honestly, I don't think I can wait for that 'one day' if it takes too long." She pleaded and Yu Chen released her.

He stared at her and Luo Xiaolei was sure that he saw the extreme curiosity and confusion in her eyes.

"I understand. Once I'm better, I'll bring you there." Yu Chen said. His eyes were back again to its calm and gentle state, causing Luo Xiaolei to sigh in relief.

"There? A place?" her brows knotted again. When the man simply nodded, she narrowed her eyes. "Does bringing me to that place answers my question?"

Yu Chen nodded again.

"Ugh! You're killing me!" she groaned, and Yu Chen's eyes turned apologetic.

"I'm sorry. Please give me time to prepare myself." He said and again, there it goes, that fear she saw a moments ago.

"Are… are you… scared?" she asked and then abruptly, she shook her head. "Haha, sorry, I don't know what I am saying."

"No, you're right."

"H-huh?!"

Luo Xiaolei's eyes turned wide. She obviously couldn't believe what she just heard.

"I'm scared with your reaction once you find out the... truth."

Luo Xiaolei's lips involuntarily parted. The urge to force him to just spill the beans was sending her at the very edge. But she fought it because she couldn't stand seeing this man struggling. She must at least wait for him to recover.

"That's unbelievable you know? Why would someone like you feel scared? Could it be that you're worried I'll leave Scarlet Hill and never show up again?" she said those words playfully but when Yu Chen nodded, Luo Xiaolei almost choked.
