I Got Reincarnated as a Zombie Girl-Chapter 80 – A New World
Chapter 80: Chapter 80 – A New World
I couldn’t sleep all night. The bed was warm and comfortable, but that wasn’t the problem. This wasn’t just a new place it was a completely foreign world to me. A different dimension, a continent I didn’t recognize, skies with a softer hue than my own, and air that felt... more alive.
All I could do was stare at the ceiling, tossing and turning until I finally drifted off just before dawn.
When I finally woke up, sunlight was shyly peeking through the window slits. I let out a soft sigh and sat up, rubbing my eyes. My hair was a mess, sticking out in all directions. The pajamas I wore felt a little tight, especially around the chest probably because they belonged to Velthya. I didn’t mind the simple and feminine design, but the size clearly wasn’t meant for my body.
I lazily got up and walked to the back of the house. Here, water was still drawn from a well quite the contrast to the modern systems I had seen in some human cities back in my world. But the water from this well was fresh unbelievably so. Its chill caressed my skin like a mountain breeze untouched by pollution. I splashed my face, trying to feel more awake.
After drawing the water and feeling a little more alive, I returned to the house. As I passed through the living room, I saw Velthya sitting casually, enjoying her lunch. The aroma of warm soup and toasted bread filled the air.
"Good afternoon, Sylvia," Velthya greeted with a light wave.
I nodded and replied, "Afternoon. I’m going to change first. These pajamas are too tight... especially around the chest."
I glanced down at my chest, which was slightly squished by the fabric, then headed into the room.
Behind me, I caught a glimpse of Velthya’s expression turning sour. She glanced at her own chest, which was... well, rather flat. Even beneath the fabric, it looked like a grassland waiting for the first sprout of growth. I nearly burst out laughing at the image but held myself back.
After changing into my usual black dress automatically repaired and cleaned I joined her at the dining table. The food was simple, but warm and satisfying. Vegetable soup with small chunks of meat and freshly toasted dry bread. I ate slowly, savoring each bite.
After the meal, Velthya offered to take me on a walk around town. I of course agreed there was no way I’d just stay cooped up in the house. We walked down the town’s rather busy streets it turned out this civilization wasn’t so different from the human settlements in my own world. There was a market, small shops, workshops, potion sellers, even a magic supply store.
"This place is more lively than I expected," I muttered softly.
Velthya smiled. "This town is quite developed, though it’s not the biggest. But since this continent is home to many dark-aligned races, it’s also quite tolerant."
I nodded, then asked, "By the way, what’s the currency here? I don’t think I have a single coin."
Velthya explained, "There are four coin types: bronze, silver, gold, and platinum. A hundred bronze equals one silver, a hundred silver equals one gold, and a hundred gold equals one platinum."
"Hmm... so a decimal system," I murmured, nodding. "But I don’t have any money. How do people earn it?"
Velthya turned to me and asked, "What are you good at?"
Without hesitation, I answered, "Fighting."
She chuckled and shook her head. "Then becoming a hunter should suit you. You can earn money by selling materials from your hunts meat, hides, horns, and such. But you need to register as an official hunter first. Come, I’ll take you there."
We headed to a slightly larger building with the symbol of a deer antler above the door. This was the Hunter’s Guild an organization that managed monster and beast hunters.
Once inside, the place was lively. Some people were discussing quests, others selling monster parts, and a few were gathered around the quest board. Velthya led me to the receptionist’s desk, where a woman with light blue hair was busy writing.
"There’s someone here who wants to register as a hunter," Velthya told her.
The receptionist smiled, then looked at me. "Please fill out this form."
I filled it out honestly, including my race: Zombie.
When she read my form, her eyes widened slightly. "Zombie...? But... zombies usually don’t have consciousness, let alone apply to be hunters..."
I gave a flat smile. "I’m... different. You could say I’ve evolved."
Luckily, as Velthya had mentioned, this continent was home to many races considered "dark" by humans. So my existence wasn’t seen as an immediate threat. The receptionist only looked surprised but didn’t reject me.
"Alright, according to regulations, all new applicants start at rank F. There are seven ranks total: F, E, D, C, B, A, and S. You’ll need to complete quests to rise through the ranks. That board over there lists all quests by rank."
She handed me a wooden plaque proof that I was a rank F hunter and pointed at the large board covered in pinned papers.
I read a few of the papers. For rank F, the available missions were fairly simple:
Gather medicinal herbs from the western forest.
Hunt wild boars that have been disturbing local farms.
Interestingly, these tasks weren’t limited in number. That meant you didn’t need to take the paper you could just complete the task and report back.
"Looks like I can start with this," I murmured while eyeing the board.
Velthya tilted her head. "Want me to come with you?"
I smiled and shook my head. "No need. I’m sure you’re busy. Besides, I can take care of myself."
"Alright then. But be careful. Even if it’s a rank F mission, the forest can still be dangerous."
I waved and turned away, carrying my wooden plaque and a small resolve to adapt to this new world.
