I Got A Title: Lord Of The Time!-Chapter 49: Diary of Mage
Chapter 49: Diary of Mage
"Diary of Shot Darali — Mage of the Third Circle," Lin easily read the title and paused to think:
"So this is a Mage’s diary? Those are quite rare in the Magic World... That means I really am in the Magic World, and not somewhere else."
Lin let out a relieved sigh and slowly opened the first page, thinking:
"A diary or any other record of this world’s past is highly valued by historians. And this is the diary of a full-fledged Mage!"
Long ago, people had discovered that before the Distortion, humans in this world possessed "Magic"—it was the main science studied and revered by the people here. That’s where the name "Magic World" comes from — because of magic.
Magic was astonishing. From found records, it was learned that Magic wasn’t accessible to everyone, and only the "Worthy of Sisyphus — the God of Magic" were able to learn it and spread it to others. The power granted by Magic was truly mortal. While no complete records remain of how exactly Mages understood Magic, there were fragments that offered vague clues.
Since Lin had actively studied some of these records at the academy, he could confidently say that this diary was equal in value to some Gray-level Distorted artifacts — and if it contained complete explanations of the principles of Magic, then it might even be worth a Green level!
That’s why Lin looked at this diary — and at the other books lying beside the skeleton — with hope.
Opening the first page, Lin realized that some entries were completely lost, while others were barely legible, but he could still read and understand some of it.
"June 5th, 1255..." Lin began reading silently: "Today, I finally received my Mage of the Second Circle certificate! I’m so happy! I can get a job in the Grand Capital, which means my life will now move in a better direction!"
"June 7th, 1255. I packed my things and left the Mage Tower. It’s a bit hard to leave this place — I spent so much time here, and deep inside, I don’t want to go... But I’ve grown up, and I must seek new wonders to improve myself!"
"June 8th, 1255. I set off for the Grand Capital of the Kingdom of Shan. I’m writing this from inside a carriage, smiling widely... With me in the carriage are other Mages looking for opportunity in the Grand Capital..."
The next pages were in terrible condition, but Lin kept flipping through them until he saw readable text:
"December 10th, 1255. It’s been a month since I joined the Royal Guard of Shan. Honestly, the training here is brutal! I’m physically exhausted after each session! I’m a Mage of the Second Circle — why must I do physical training if I can just use Magic to defeat enemies?! So strange!"
"December 15th, 1255. A tragedy occurred today! Miss Salavis Shan gave birth to her first child, but died immediately afterward! The whole kingdom is in despair! King Logor summoned the court Mages, who tried everything, but they couldn’t revive her! They said Miss Salavis died from an unknown infection that even they didn’t recognize! Logor was furious and dismissed everyone!"
"An unknown infection... Could that have been the Distortion that started slowly infecting the Magic World?" Lin immediately thought, flipping through more illegible pages until he found another readable section:
"April 25th, 1256. The young master Modor Shan shows exceptional intelligence! They say he will become a great Mage who will change the entire era. I really hope so — he’s very sweet..."
"May 10th, 1256. King Logor is furious with Modor! He insulted him with words so harsh, even I was shocked! Honestly, I didn’t like the King’s actions, and I wanted to strike him, but I held back... But I won’t forget this."
"Modor must have had a hard childhood..." Lin concluded and kept reading:
"September 5th, 1256. I’ve become the captain of the Royal Guard of Shan. They called me an exceptional genius, but I know who the real genius is — the young master Modor. He’s already learned to speak!"
"How unusual," Lin smirked and continued reading, flipping each page with full seriousness, knowing that every bit of information here was valuable — and Lin was sure he’d be rewarded for it.
Minutes passed quickly as he read, until Lin reached the final pages:
"May 5th, 1272. I feel awful... I’m in pain... The Great War has begun... I didn’t want to leave King Modor... But it’s the Distortion!! Damn it, I must go — I must leave the King so I won’t harm him... I’ll go into the Abyssal Cave and end my life there, so I don’t become one of those monsters!! Farewell, King Modor! I truly love you!"
Lin’s eyes lit up when he saw the mention of the Abyssal Cave — because most likely, that’s exactly where he was now!
"...1272. I’m inside the Abyssal Cave, I don’t know how deep, but I estimate several kilometers. I feel immense pressure here, but also peace, knowing that the Distortion won’t escape this place!"
"...1272. I’ve run out of food and water — I’ll probably die here. I found a huge underground canyon that leads upward. I don’t know what’s above, and I don’t want to know — half my body is already rotted, and I have no way to do anything... I will die. I’ve also lost much of my magical power due to damage to my Spiritual Talent... I think it would be better to die as soon as possible..."
"...1272. I will die. I will die tomorrow. I am grateful for my life — I lived it with dignity. I had many friends who made me feel at home... Did I live a good life? Am I happy with it? Ha. More than happy — if I had the chance, I would live it all over again! If anyone is reading this... I hope the Kingdom of Shan is safe... And I hope Modor is honored as the great King who is born once in a thousand years! Farewell, everyone! Farewell, world!"
The end of the diary.
Lin stared at the final lines for a while, then sighed.
"He was a strong man. Thank you for the diary..."
From this diary, Lin learned a lot. Although most of it was a surface-level overview of events, it was enough to construct a logical chain of what had happened.
He looked at the other books and opened them — their condition was far worse than Shot’s diary, so he couldn’t read much, but he grasped the general idea. They were books about Magic: "Fundamental Principles of Magic" and "The Greatness of Sisyphus in Magic."
But it was hard to understand anything from these books — the text read more like philosophical treatises, filled with constant metaphors and complex words. So Lin set the two books aside and decided to read them later. fгeewebnovёl.com
"I think it’s time to move on," Lin stood up and glanced at Shot’s skeleton. He sighed, took the brown robe, and put it on.
"You won’t need this anymore, so I’ll borrow it."
He then placed Shot’s skeleton in a sitting position at the edge of the small cave, facing the canyon.
"This is my payment," Lin smiled and walked deeper into the cave from which Shot had come.
If he came from there, then there must be an exit.
With that hope, he walked on.
