I Go to the High Seas for Fishing But Get Hunted by an Aircraft Carrier-Chapter 873: It’s a Vegetable Cellar
"Let's not rush. Let's first explore a little."
Saying this, Anying pulled a small device out from the pocket next to him and placed it on the cover. Soon, the machine emitted an alert sound.
"So, did it detect anything?"
"I'm sure there's life down below, so we shouldn't have any problems right now. Are we going down then?"
"What are we waiting for? Since you've already locked onto the target, there's no point in staying here. Let's head down and see."
As he spoke, Ye Chen gestured with a hand behind him.
Since Anying had finished what he needed to do, it was Ye Chen's turn. If things went as expected, everything should be resolved smoothly.
Anying stepped back a couple of paces because he knew how capable Ye Chen was. He felt reassured leaving things to Ye Chen.
Finally, Ye Chen cautiously approached and poked around. He found it quiet inside, suggesting the people below had yet to notice his presence.
He gently pushed the wooden board, surprised to discover it wasn't locked.
He pulled the board open and peered inside, not expecting to find a sizable hollow underneath, with a rope hanging straight down.
"Oh my God, is that an actual staircase?"
"See? This is something they quickly set up, not any formal basement. They just threw a rope down. I suspect this place used to be a vegetable cellar the villagers used."
"If that's the case, do we need to go down from here to determine their location?"
"As far as I know, this large area and vegetable cellars are used extensively. Back then, I saw such cellars, and they're usually pretty big, at least two or three hundred square meters. They store most village vegetables down there."
"Let's not wait any longer. Let's hurry down."
"You stay up here and wait for me. Once confirmed it's safe below, you can come down. Otherwise, you might as well stay up here and keep watch. If there's a problem, I'll find you."
"No, it's too risky to go down alone."
Ye Chen couldn't go down alone because Anying knew there was danger below. He was aware that if anything unavoidable occurred, it would be a big problem for them.
"Alright then, let me go down first. I'll call you when it's safe for you to come down."
Hearing this, Anying nodded compliantly. If she went down first, she couldn't resolve anything below, so all hopes were placed on Ye Chen.
Ye Chen descended slowly down the rope. As he reached the bottom, he found the space quite spacious and finally leaped to the ground.
The top of the rope was about two meters above the ground, so there shouldn't be any significant injury jumping down.
But Ye Chen struggled to imagine them being thrown down here in an unconscious state. How did it happen?
With that thought, Ye Chen became suddenly worried.
If it were just Lin Yaru, the fall wouldn't cause harm; the ground was soft soil. But being concerned about the old man's age, what if he got hurt? How would he explain to the Guo Family then?
Ye Chen regretted placing Lin Yaru in the old man's care. It seemed he'd oversimplified the complexity of everything.
As the saying goes, a cornered rabbit will bite. It seemed they were pushed to the brink, and in this forced situation, they wouldn't give up easily, leading to reckless decisions.
Carefully, he scanned the surroundings. Coming from brightness to dark, his eyes took time to adjust.
About 20 seconds later, Ye Chen felt his eyes gradually adapting to the light and environment, and looked over to the front.
It was pitch black ahead, but Ye Chen sensed some obstacles in the direction. Could it mean those people were hiding amidst these obstacles, and this place was full of compartments?
He dared not speak loudly, fearing it might alert those people. So, he shook the rope vigorously.
The place was about eight or nine meters above ground, so Ye Chen could clearly see Anying waiting for his signal.
Anying understood it was safe, so she started sliding down the rope steadily.
Descending a rope wasn't an issue for Anying. She was trained professionally and restored the cover board back in place out of habit.
Once down, she nodded at Ye Chen, who pointed forward, estimating the situation.
Just as he was about to move forward, Anying suddenly stopped him, pulling a mysterious object from her pocket.
