Chapter 89: 088. Yin Yang Road (Additional update for recommendation tickets!)_1
“Achoo—”
Lu Ban sneezed, the sound echoing down the nighttime streets.
He and Qin Tiantian were allowed to go home after they finished giving their statements. Out of friendship, he walked Qin Tiantian on her way.
“I can’t believe the perverted killer is right here in our area. It’s terrifying.”
Qin Tiantian felt goosebumps on her arms; the image of the remains she had seen still echoed in her mind, making her, small and helpless, shiver.
“”Don’t go out alone at night, double lock your door, and don’t open it for anyone knocking.”
Lu Ban reminded her.
“”…Can’t you say something nice?”
Qin Tiantian felt quite helpless.
“”Considering you’re usually live streaming at night, you’re unlikely to run into any murderers anyway.”
Lu Ban glanced at a street sign and continued walking.
“”May I sleep over at your place tonight? Don’t worry, I won’t do anything!”
Qin Tiantian suggested.
“”You’re grown up now, you should learn to sleep by yourself.”
Lu Ban promptly refused.
His own home was currently… a bit crowded. If Qin Tiantian also came over, it might be too cramped, affecting his rest.
“Tsk, tsk.”
Without dwelling on it, Qin Tiantian continued to walk.
As they walked, she suddenly noticed that the scenery around her began to appear unfamiliar.
Normally, it was just a ten-minute walk from the back street of Jiangcheng University to the entrance of her residential community. Qin Tiantian, who often wandered around after live streaming to grab a late-night snack, was very familiar with the surroundings.
But now, why did the signs of these street-side shops seem strange?
She looked to the left front, where a shop with red lanterns hanging had an ancient signboard with a few big characters on it.
[Rongfa Coffin Shop]
“???”
Qin Tiantian’s hair stood on end, and she couldn’t help but move closer to Lu Ban.
“”Was there a coffin shop here before?”
She asked in a whisper.
The coffin shop appeared to still have lights on. Qin Tiantian curiously peered inside, only to see a red candle flickering slowly, illuminating the interior.
There were two coffins inside, not closed, just displayed there.
Next to the coffins sat an elderly woman with sparse white hair. The candlelight cast on her creased face, one side was pitch black and the other was pale yellow.
The old lady stared straight at Qin Tiantian, her murky eyes giving off a frightening illusion.
Beside the old lady were two paper figures.
The paper figures had extremely white faces, and their clothes were a stark contrast with bright reds and greens. The false paper figures had only one real feature: their eyes, which were lifelike, as if they were real human eyes.
Qin Tiantian clung to Lu Ban’s arm, walking on the side away from the coffin shop, stealing glances at the paper figures.
“”No taboos, no taboos.”
Muttering these words, Qin Tiantian closed her eyes. After waiting for a while and seeing that they were about to pass the coffin shop, she couldn’t resist turning her head to take a peek.
Then, she saw those paper figures’ eyes, as if alive, watching her.
“”Damn!”
Qin Tiantian couldn’t help but swear, a chill creeping into her heart.
She noticed the street sign by the roadside.
[Yin Yang Road]
“!!!”
Qin Tiantian shuddered, her accelerating heartbeat causing a stabbing pain in both ears—a reaction caused by the rush of blood.
“”Did we just run into a ghost?”
Qin Tiantian looked at Lu Ban, her face ashen.
“”Maybe.”
Lu Ban looked at the street sign and pondered for a moment before suddenly raising his head.
“”What is it, do you know how we can get out of here?”
Qin Tiantian didn’t dare let go of Lu Ban’s hand and could only hold on even tighter. If this were a scene in a movie, this would be the moment to feel the tender warmth of a girl’s embrace.
But Lu Ban was unfazed.
Imagine a sandwich with your arm as the filling—that’s pleasure.

A steel plate and two iron rods pressing on your arm—that means amputation.
Upon hearing Qin Tiantian’s question, Lu Ban immediately answered.
“When we walked in just now, I felt there was something off about the road sign. It turns out I was right.”
“…So you noticed even later than I did?”
Qin Tiantian was speechless.
“It’s no big deal. ‘If you don’t do guilty deeds, you won’t fear the ghost knocking at your door at midnight.’ Normal ghosts don’t just harm people for no reason. Or are you saying you’ve done something to feel guilty about?”
Lu Ban explained earnestly.
“Of course I haven’t!”
Qin Tiantian puffed out her chest, as if it could serve as a runway for heavy aircraft, but then she suddenly felt a bit uneasy.
“Hold on. If normal ghosts won’t hurt people, what about the abnormal ones?”
“Abnormal ghosts, they harm anyone they see.”
Lu Ban said seriously.
“…Thanks a lot,”
Qin Tiantian couldn’t help but retort.
For some reason, the tremors in her body ceased, and she didn’t feel as scared when she and Lu Ban joked around.
“Just keep going forward and we’ll be fine. ‘Yin Yang Road, do not look back,’ just don’t look back and we’ll be okay.”
Lu Ban pointed ahead to the depths of the alley shrouded in mist.
“…Really?”
Qin Tiantian muttered, but obediently followed Lu Ban forward.
Due to the high tension, she lost track of time. It was very cold around her, and only Lu Ban’s arm was somewhat warm.
The shops nearby were mostly still open, each one eerily resembling the Netherworld.
The barbecue shop, where the displayed food was bloody and indistinct. The bare-chested shop owner wore only a filthy apron, wielding a huge cleaver.
At the bookstore, the books seemed to be covered in dust. The shopkeeper didn’t look modern at all. On the shelves, countless talisman papers fluttered in the breeze.
In the clothing store, the clothes appeared to be made of folded paper, brightly colored without any sense of aesthetics. The shop mannequins, with their paper faces, peered out at the street with both eyes.
“Hee hee.”
After hearing a light giggle from behind, Qin Tiantian resisted the urge to look back, only to see a child squeeze out from beside her.
The kid was dressed in rough cotton, white-faced with conspicuously red cheeks. He turned his head to smile at Qin Tiantian and then scampered into an unknown shop.
“This is the Ghost Market, where some ghosts engage in buying and selling.”
Lu Ban explained briefly.
“Who would understand that…”
Qin Tiantian needed reassurance, not a lecture.
“You fear ghosts because you don’t understand them. Fear comes from the unknown. When you thoroughly study and understand ghosts, they won’t be scary anymore.”
Lu Ban patiently elaborated.
“I don’t want to understand right now. I just want to go home!”
Qin Tiantian nearly cried out, feeling her legs weaken to the point she could hardly walk. Each step was torture.
Just then, someone tapped her right shoulder.
“Why did you hit me—”
About to turn around instinctively, Qin Tiantian suddenly realized.
Lu Ban’s left hand was on the left, his right being held by her. How could he have tapped her?
“…”
Drawing in a cold breath, Qin Tiantian’s eyes rolled back, and she fainted.
“This works too.”
Lu Ban looked at the unconscious Qin Tiantian, picked her up, and headed towards the exit of the alley.
