Chapter 29: 029. Every wrong has a perpetrator, every debt has a creditor_1
“Did something just float by just now?”
Lu Ban’s voice in the video seemed a bit tense.
The camera zoomed in as he approached the entrance of the emergency corridor and looked down at the ground.
“There’s a newspaper here, strange, it wasn’t here just a moment ago…”
Lu Ban reached out and picked up the newspaper.
Qin Tiantian always felt something terrifying would come into view once the camera angle was raised, so she hurriedly covered her eyes with her hands, peering through her fingers at the screen.
“The newspaper talks about the incident that happened here, it seems there’s another story behind this fire…”
Lu Ban briefly flipped through the newspaper, then walked towards the stage.
“The fire was caused by an electrical switch in the backstage area catching fire, let’s go check it out.”
Qin Tiantian mustered the courage to look at the screen, not directly at Lu Ban’s video but at the barrage of comments in her own live streaming room.
[The woman in red clothes just now obviously had a bigger problem, hey!]
[I paused and looked closely, you can’t see the face at all, you can only make out the red dress, is this the legendary female ghost in red?]
[Quit trying to spook us, it was okay when they were just exploring, but now with these scenes, you can almost tell this is staged with a prepared script]
[Is there any high energy ahead, any brothers who quickly went in to check it out?]
[Chuanbao, shouldn’t we just end the live stream? Watching these videos late at night is not good for your health]
“You, you guys don’t have to worry about me, I’ve always been brave~~~~~.”
She spoke while looking at Lu Ban’s video, her voice trembling at the end.
What Qin Tiantian saw were the fused mannequins, which in the dim environment, illuminated by the flashlight, had a certain alien feel to them—as if they weren’t props but human limbs.
Accompanying the movement of the flashlight, Qin Tiantian saw the electrical switch.
But the moment she saw the electrical switch, her eyes were drawn to a mannequin illuminated at the edge of the flashlight’s beam.
Unlike normal mannequins with only creepy eyes, this one appeared to have a human face!
“!!”
As Lu Ban’s flashlight and camera moved closer and closer to that human face, Qin Tiantian’s head moved farther and farther away from the screen, until her whole body was pressed against the headboard, curled up into a ball.
“There doesn’t seem to be anything wrong here…”
Lu Ban suddenly spoke, startling Qin Tiantian, who then quickly covered her mouth.
Because she heard a piano note.
One note, two notes, three notes—goosebumps sprouted on Qin Tiantian’s body as they became denser with each note, each one scratching at her head, causing her to involuntarily shiver.
The camera turned toward the piano on the stage.
There, before the piano, sat a performer.
The performer’s face looked as if it had been scorched by fierce flames; blackened skin showing dark red flesh beneath, ashy white bones, wearing a tattered suit, with mangled fingers flowing smoothly over the black and white keys.
The melody was unsettling, yet carried a certain weight, instantly gripping Qin Tiantian’s ears and drawing her helplessly into it.
In the video, Lu Ban seemed to realize something, and he walked toward the performer.
The camera switched to a panoramic view of the theater’s auditorium. The audience could see that Lu Ban was heading toward the piano, but several of the mannequins with creepy eyes started to rise slowly, attempting to block Lu Ban’s path.
Qin Tiantian watched this scene numbly, unable to think.
Fortunately, Lu Ban suddenly began to sing “Good Fortune Comes,” the cheerful melody diluting the piano’s sound, allowing Lu Ban to start running, and with a few swings of a crowbar, he smashed those mannequins.
“Eh? ‘Good Fortune Comes’?”
Qin Tiantian finally snapped back to reality, but in that brief moment, her face had already pressed against the screen as if she was trying to rub herself into the computer.
In the end of the video, Lu Ban had only managed to escape the Jiangcheng Grand Theater; he hadn’t dealt with the pianist.
“This place is very dangerous, I advise everyone not to come here out of curiosity. Of course, if I get the chance, I’ll make preparations and come back later. I hope you guys can hit the follow button, give triple likes for support, and I’ll see you in the next one.”
Even having had a narrow escape, Lu Ban didn’t forget to ask for followers, and the video ended completely.

With the end of the video, the barrage of comments in Qin Tiantian’s live streaming room blew up.
[Was that last part special effects? It can’t possibly be a real ghost, right?]
[Is that it? Is that it? Is that it?]
[At the beginning, I thought it was a video about exploring a haunted house, in the middle, it seemed like a mukbang video, and then it turned out to be a promo for a special effects studio?]
[How many years did this UP study animation and special effects, it’s so lifelike!]
[Not gonna lie, when that piano music started, I actually spaced out for a moment, the music really did seem a bit spooky]
[Honestly, I think this video sucks, it had a good suspense vibe going on, but why did some monsters show up at the end? Although the effects are realistic, if you think about it, it’s off]
[But the style of this UP’s videos is pretty good, just for that last part’s special effects, I think they’re great, definitely better than that sci-fi blockbuster called whatever fortress that was released before, followed!]
“…It wasn’t even scary!”
Qin Tiantian crawled to the desk and forced a smile at the microphone.
“Especially at the end, I laughed when that monster appeared, not scary at all!”
She puffed out her non-existent chest.
Honestly, the exploration part of Lu Ban’s video did seem kind of legit, with the dilapidated buildings and those slightly creepy scenes and props, all stirring up the fear inside people.
But the eating scene in the middle really diluted the horror atmosphere. However, the appearance of the person in red, along with the newspapers, and the mannequin near the electrical switch, were quite frightening, up until the sound of the piano.
It was the last part, where the mannequin fought with Lu Ban, that changed the flavor of the whole video. At least Qin Tiantian believed that segment must have been special effects, and knowing it was special effects made the video less scary.
But then again…
Qin Tiantian thought back to the strange noises she had made while watching the video, which were probably recorded by some keen live-recording team and might end up as her scream compilation video on the retro video website the next morning.
What’s more, the video itself was of good quality. Though it was scary, it wasn’t too terrifying, too gross, or too netherworldly. The final part accompanied by the “Good Fortune Comes” effect was actually quite ironic and amusing, and she wouldn’t mind watching it again herself, but she was very keen to see other people watch it.
“I can’t be the only one to enjoy this blessing!”
Qin Tiantian forwarded it to the small group of hosts she was part of, just like Li Baitu had done.
After hitting the forward button, she got up to wash up.
Holding her toothbrush, she looked into the mirror, her shoulders drooping.
Suddenly, Qin Tiantian had an illusion that something was off about the mirror.
As she leaned closer, she discovered to her shock that there seemed to be a dark yellow grease on the edge of the mirror.
“…No, it can’t be…”
Qin Tiantian shook the images out of her head and dove into bed as quickly as she had washed, but tossing and turning, she still couldn’t fall asleep two hours later.
“…This won’t do, I have to make that guy take responsibility!”
Wrongs must be righted, and debts must be claimed. She got up, changed her clothes, and prepared to go find Lu Ban.
