I Evolve By Collecting Infinite Spirits-Chapter 50: Buying Quests
After talking to a few shop owners on the streets, Sin was surprised to hear that Ace Hunter Group wasn’t currently in town.
"From what I heard, they left for another expedition. Its going to be a fairly long one, I hear... possibly stretching on for weeks."
"Where did they go? I believe it was the capital..."
"Captainia’s capital! Its the best place for Hunters in this kingdom. I heard it was Ace’s home base before they left for Solstar."
"Whats the capital? Well... its Leadre. The city of prospects..."
After a couple more hours, the sun had begun to set.
The first place Sin went was the Hunter Guild. There, he remade his Hunter ID and also got another Hunter bracelet, which allowed him to see the database of quests.
Secondly, Sin went to the inn where he had stayed before.
He got another room since his key was lost now, and unpacked the few things he had bought on the way here.
’They seemed to have quite the reputation in Leadre... but their home base was moved to Solstar for a reason.’
Sin sat down on his new chair--the last one hurt his back too much.
’They most likely went to Leadre to get another team member to replace Roby, but... they will be back. While I wait for them, I’ll use this time to get as strong as possible. Even with Zydrax and Dra’res, I don’t know if I can deal with all three of them right now, along with whoever else they add to their team.’
Sin took out his Hunter bracelet from his inventory. He realized that putting things like this in his inventory was smarter than on his person after the previous incident.
’If they don’t come back within a month, though... I’ll have to hunt them down in Leadre myself.’ He set a deadline for not just himself but also Ace.
He opened the bracelet’s HUD, a hologram appearing in the air.
After filtering and scrolling through the quest database for a few seconds, he arrived at Lord Surfin’s quest purchases.
’Lets see...’
He knew there was a reason why the lord was purchasing shit ranked quests. His plan was to buy these super-easy dungeons and see for himself why the rich were doing the same.
Buying a quest was expensive but lucrative, since it allowed you to have complete control over who was allowed to enter the dungeon, how the quest would go, and it would also give you the rights to all beast items and other materials in a cave.
’F-Rank quests are rarely dungeons or caves. However, all of the ones that Surfin has bought are cave dungeons, albeit very weak ones, of course.’
He scrolled to the purchase page, trying to buy an F-Rank quest of his own.
However, a frown quickly appeared on his face as he saw the price of the quests.
’Anywhere from 50 to 75 gold for a single F-Rank quest...’ He was devastated.
Buying a quest was almost like gambling, or investing as some would say--a lump sum of money put into a lucky egg. The only way to see if you got a profit was to explore the dungeon and sell its materials.
Still, the Hunter Guild had an incentive to make a profit, so most quests were always overpriced.
Especially low ranking quests--their prices were inflated out the wazoo due to their popularity. Like cheap slot machines, everyone would try them out when they got the money and most would fail.
This was because low ranking quests were known to always never give a profit. Still, some fools imagined they could get away with getting a lucky spoil.
But, actually getting a profit from an F-Ranked dungeon quest was like searching for a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow... practically impossible.
Sin was dead broke right now, hence why he was trying to exploit rich mother fuckers and get more money.
Currently, he was running on just under a single gold coin, which was like an average person’s wage for two days worth of work.
On top of that, even if he had the money for a quest, others might outbuy him in the online auction that was running on the database at all times.
"Tsk... I guess I really don’t have a choice." He sighed, "I’ll just need to collect beast parts and do other quests for now. But... I still want to check out these specific quests."
After no more deliberation, he signed up to be one of the Hunter’s in the most recent upcoming F-Rank dungeon quest owned by Lord Surfin.
Thankfully, this process was made very easy due to the Hunter bracelet.
He didn’t have to wait long either, since the quest was the following day.
After getting cleaned up in the shower, Sin laid himself out on the bed.
Before he slept, thoughts about the future began to irk him slightly.
They came from out of nowhere like jump scares, not letting him have peace of mind.
’What if I don’t get strong enough?’
’Im still hiding, like a coward...’
’Death... I got really close last time.’
’I am weak... still so weak...’
Sin shook his head, opening his eyes. This helped him relax a bit more.
’Why are these stupid thoughts coming to my head? They won’t help me at all... and they don’t even make any sense.’
He paused.
’I won’t die. I won’t lose. I’ve made that vow already... so stop worrying about it. All I need to have is patience; everything else is already set in stone. Thinking won’t help me now, but sleeping will. So that’s what im going to do.’
Sin could talk himself into not worrying about stuff, which helped with sleeping greatly.
Understanding that sleeping would help him with problem-solving more than thinking about the problems was a great step towards having the ability to fall asleep instantly.
Sin proved this theory by drifting off into a deep slumber within seconds...
The next day, Sin arrived to the Hunter’s Guild early in the morning after completing his workout for the day.
Within seconds, he met the group of people joining him in this quest... as an ore collector.
Yeah... Sin was denied as a Hunter. He only found out that morning.
’Surfin’s got his own Hunters employed, so no one else can join the quest as a Hunter.’
Still, Sin managed to sign up as an ore collector just hours before the quest started.
