I created my own system-Chapter 337: His pov
I kept on thinking about what others thought of me at that time.
I just felt confused because they always told me that magic had its ways to create miracles yet when I present my idea I was labeled next to madness. A crazy wizard that wanted to defy logic, for a young mage at that time I took their words as encouragement to do better. To discover the things they call impossible. I wanted to show them that what I’m doing is all worth it. It could give them a glimpse of the future they had never seen before.
If I could make one think, if I could restore consciousness to the chaotic whirlpool of corruption... perhaps we could create the ultimate vessel of magic.
I just need something, an ingredient capable of not just any normal mutation but something that can grant evolution. I wanted it, it has to be mine. The core of evolution should be held in my hands.
However, what kind of power can force an evolution to a species such as a demon? There has to be something, I need it where could I find it!
"Dominos?"
"!?"
A voice startled me, but more than my heart, my body froze upon the realization of who the owner of the voice was.
"What are you doing in my room?" He asked again, and in that moment, I realized what I had done. My hands are trembling and my eyes blur for a moment. I could not look up, my eyes were glued on the ground, stuck in place as if permanently put in that way.
No excuse came. Only shame.
The night was quiet, but the beat of my heart was beating so fast that it was the only thing I could hear.
In the four corners of this room, I am rummaging through my teacher’s important documents and research.
"I.....I ....master.....this is..."
Why am I even doing this?
I wasn’t supposed to be here
No, but it was my chance to see if there was something I could use here
But this is wrong, I shouldn’t act like a rat, like a thief that scavenging for something
I don’t know, I just wanted to prove that I was right, that it was no madness!
That my vision was driven by curiosity and not obsession, which could not harm me.
"Teacher, I just wanted to learn"
My teacher, my guardian, gave me a look that I could not comprehend. It wasn’t a look of disgust or even anger, it was something different, one that I haven’t seen before.
"What exactly are you looking for to turn my place into this catastrophe?"
He asked me, despite the situation I am in, my teacher was still calm and collected.
He didn’t yell. He didn’t curse.
He just looked at me.
Not with anger. Not with hatred.
But just eyes that didn’t seem to hold any emotion.
That night, I apologized and told him I was looking for the research paper I passed the other day. I told him that I wanted to check on it because I suddenly had a breakthrough on my research and I needed that paper for clarification. My teacher obviously did not believe me but he didn’t say anything further. He just told me to return to my room.
Days passed. And I did everything to make up for what I did that night, and I know my teacher was aware of it, but knowing how much he loves me, he let me make up for what I did. He accepted my apologies and gestures, and I was genuinely happy because of it. One night, as I was cleaning his room, I accidentally came across the family tree of the Lionheart family and felt confused when I saw the name Apollo. he was the first son of Artemis Von Lionheart, the founder of the Lionheart Duchy.
Do they have the same name?
I was confused, but then again it wasn’t really uncommon. So since I was tidying up the place, I picked the family tree only to notice that several people were named Apollo besides my teacher and the first duchess’ son.
Curious, I asked my teacher about the Lionheart family tradition. About the name "Apollo" being recycled. He didn’t think much of it, said it was given to children with unstable souls. It was like a tradition to help the child get better, like the name being a shield to protect the soul. A precaution, nothing more.
I, too, didn’t mind it since some families will do the same out of belief, and having unstable souls wasn’t uncommon either, so I resumed what I was doing. But then his travels suddenly got strange, so I found a map and started tracing the places he had been through.
It was confusing at first, but slowly I began to find the connection. In each place he goes, there is always a weird event that would stir the world upside down. I thought maybe within those mysteries I would find the answer I was looking for. I research the places he visited, Why did he go there? What reason?
The answer I found was the anomalies that transpired in that place, which was the trigger that made my teacher go there.
And so, like him, I follow the same path and found a place that wasn’t discovered yet.
When I found the first one, it was sealed in crystal, humming with power that felt like it could split a soul.
And that was exactly what I needed.
In my hand is a grimoire that holds power that no one could even imagine.
I experimented in secret. Made glyphs from the spells there. My research reached a new height, but despite the success, it was not enough.
I still need more
There is still something I should look for. So I tried using more. I used a living fusion of multiple beasts that I will corrupt at the same time, its heart bound by spells I modified on my own, but this time there was a twist. I used my teacher’s blood to bind the moving flesh while the power that was used in the spell came from the grimoire. The results were promising, and the corruption was slowly being held together.
I was filled with ecstasy at how it was progressing, but the most difficult part is to test how their consciousness will react to the experiment. I could hear the screams of pain from the magical beast that had already mutated due to the corruption. Their reaction was good, I like it.
But then something went wrong the corruption suddenly exploded. I felt nervous at the sudden fluctuation of energy, with the situation getting wild, I made my move. I tried to suppress the miasma. The spell that I made flowed through the room and immediately dispersed the miasma.
I sigh in relief, and as the turbulence of energy subsides, I catch a glimpse of the demon I created.
"It worked?"
The demon, after the transformation, did not attack me.
It just stood where it was.
It looked at me. Not with hunger.
But with confusion.
A second later, it exploded. The miasma I destroyed was immediately replaced by the demon’s wrath.
No, this can’t be I was doing okay!
No
I must have missed something. Something crucial. Did I calculate wrong? Did I use too little power from the grimoire?
Which is it!
No, I can still fix this, I can do this!
I gather more power from the grimoire, all I need is more power that is all that is missing
But it was too late. The corruption leaked. It spread through Mahika like poison.
Beasts turned. Spells twisted.
And the Temple fell.
Flames burst up, and blood splattered everywhere. My ears were drawn by screams while the miasma continued to rob me of my breath.
In those final moments, my teacher found me again. I was dying. Corruption had invaded my lungs.
He held me. Whispered my name.
"Dominos... you little idiot. Even in death, you’re still obsessed."
And I was.
Because even then, I smiled.
"Good... luck, teacher... I want to see... who wins..."
The demon I made through your blood, it will respond to you my teacher, it will react to you.
"O-oh....how interesting"
I really want to see who will win when a demon that has the same ability as you emerges
"Teacher, good luck..."
Darkness soon came, and for some unknown reason, I felt like I was floating like a boat floating on a moving wave of water.
"Ah... I want to live again and continue my research," I could only say while the water fed my senses with warmth. It slowly drowned me, filling my body with numbness until I could no longer feel anything. Until everything turns black and even his voice can no longer reach me.
I reach the river where I float until a new life welcomes me
And it did
But I didn’t truly die.
I cheated.
