I can upgrade the shelter-Chapter 738 - 636: Unexpected
The domestic battle situation against extraterrestrial creatures has gradually gained the upper hand, but this is not the case in Europe.
Due to gaps in weaponry, the difficulty of light weapons causing harm to the alien creatures, and environmental constraints, it has become especially tough for Europeans to fend off the alien onslaught.
Therefore, after the joint reinforcement forces from the Flame Country and Lucia arrived, all European countries, upon understanding the combat strength of this force, eagerly hoped that this reinforcement force would promptly support the front lines to alleviate their pressure.
Receiving requests from European countries, the Lucian and Flame soldiers in the reinforcement force deliberated and then the Lucians dispatched four of their six battalions from two regiments, while the Flame Country sent two battalions, forming two regiments together to support the European countries in battle on the front lines.
The remaining two Lucian battalions and one Flame battalion stayed behind to protect the land aircraft carriers and the established logistics bases.
Accompanying them were two transport ships and one frigate that brought them there, with the three land ships being used as fire support and a mobile base, while the two mechanized infantry regiments were allocated to the battlefield in the south of France.
Before this reinforcement force reached the battlefield, they had originally thought the alien creatures on the European battlefield would be similar to those encountered by the Flame Country, possibly differing only in scale and number.
Moreover, the inability of European countries to withstand alien attacks is largely due to the inefficacy of light weapons against these creatures.
However, when they actually arrived at the battlefield and engaged in combat with the alien creatures alongside European countries, they realized they had underestimated the situation.
Although indeed European countries have seen a decline in martial decorum in recent years, with few standout performances in war, old Europe’s foundations are still somewhat intact, and advanced military equipment is not lacking.
While light weapons may be useless against alien creatures, heavy machine guns, flat-angled anti-aircraft guns, and heavy artillery still have their uses.
Even if old Europe is lagging, it’s not to the point where they can’t bring out these assets, embarrassingly relying on terrain constraints to barely fend off alien attacks.
The Flame Country and Lucia initially thought environmental factors were to blame, with cold weather hindering these soldiers’ combat effectiveness.
But upon arriving at the battlefield, they realized that although old Europe indeed lacks strength, and climate truly constrains their soldiers’ fighting ability, the main reason old Europe struggles to resist alien attacks is that these extraterrestrial creatures are visibly stronger.
The common cannon fodder combat subunits and worker ant subunits need no mention; what are sporadic large flamethrower subunits in the Flame Country are almost considered regular units here, and a glance at the battlefield reveals these big entities in numbers.
Accompanying them are even larger vesicle subunits than those seen in the Dongting Lake Battlefield, with longer firing ranges, even double-barreled ones, and most astonishingly, airborne units.
"Are they really just one species? Even a swarm couldn’t diversify to such an extent, could it?"
The images from the European battlefield, once transmitted back home, shocked everyone, and many biologists felt as if their worldviews had been shattered.
In an urgently convened discussion meeting, Chen Xin shook his head as he surveyed the varied alien forces resembling a swarm from a game: "Even if ants can diversify into worker ants, soldier ants, flying ants, this is simply overboard for alien creatures!
They resemble more a type of biological weapon rather than a biological group. Everything about them seems evolved for expansion and invasion, not changes made for survival."
"That’s right, nature is brutal, any useless or burdensome design would be eliminated naturally, and a species would only develop in other directions after shedding survival pressure. According to Occam’s Razor, if it were merely for survival, there is no need for such exaggerated size, flight capability, or flame abilities, which are irrelevant to their survival and unrelated to their ecological niche!" A biologist agreed strongly with Chen Xin’s perspective, considering this unlike any normal evolved biological group.
Another biologist spoke up: "So this isn’t an alien biological group as we previously assumed, but a kind of biological weapon. Do they have aliens behind them?"
"There might not be any aliens, or they themselves might just be the aliens." Chen Xin shook his head, doubting the involvement of aliens behind these creatures: "Don’t forget, there’s a superior subunit behind these alien creatures that we have yet to encounter. I heavily suspect this is an alien civilization pursuing biological evolution."
"An alien civilization pursuing biological evolution? Is that possible?" A participating researcher found it incredible, believing that civilizations should advance through technological rather than biological evolution.
"The universe is vast, nothing is impossible; remember that the Blue Planet was once dominated by insects. If at that time, an insect species pursued brain evolution, the emergence of insectoids wouldn’t be unimaginable." Perhaps due to his background as a web novelist, Chen Xin was quite open to this idea: "If during their evolution, these alien creatures encountered certain stimuli or influences, forming a scenario of collective intelligence or superior intelligence controlling lower-intelligence individuals, it wouldn’t be impossible.
But today our focus shouldn’t be on how they evolved, or why they evolved this way. We will have plenty of time to study that once we eliminate them, what we need to focus on now is the European battlefield."
"Indeed, the European battlefield is as it appears; the pressure on European countries may be greater than we anticipated. Perhaps we should increase the level of aid to them?" an official suggested to those present, understanding the situation even if lacking knowledge in biology.
After hearing this suggestion, everyone discussed and agreed.
After all, the original intent to assist Europe was to help European countries fend off alien creatures. Now that it’s clear they are under a greater strain than expected, naturally some additional aid should be provided to help them withstand the pressure.
"So let’s have the fleet over there construct a forward airfield, then send a batch of aircraft filters to European countries from home; it seems they cannot get their aircraft airborne. With filters, they can at least restore some aerial assault capabilities." After a group discussion, a military officer summarized the group’s consensus: "As for other reinforcements, let’s wait for further reports from the reinforcement force."
