I can expand my MAGIC ENDLESSLY?!-Chapter 21: A Monster surge
6th of Augusta, Year 803 of Eclipsis
Nozvan Estate, Midnight.
The blue moon shining above the cloud cast the blue glow at the city below of Nozvan.
The city was bursting with life. Despite it being late midnight, the roads were filled with all kinds of people mercenaries, merchants, and a few occasional people of high status.
But then, without any signs of warning, the ground started to shake, a low tremor at first. But gradually the intensity started to increase rapidly.
The ground heaved violently. Horses screamed, hooves striking the road as they stumbled and fell. Stalls tipped over, crates falling to the ground, causing fruits to scatter.
’What’s happening?’
Chaos erupted instantly. Along with the low shrills of beasts echoing from afar. A second later, the swirls of beasts become clearer and clearer, causing the hearts, Those still trying to make sense of what was happening froze one word came to their mind.
"Monsters...! They’re here! They’re coming!"
"Monster Surge! All guards, take your positions! Defend the gates!"
Right beyond the walls, near the edge of the forest. Like the waves of the Black Sea. Monsters started to spill out of the hundred thousand mountains, rushing right towards the city.
At the same time, at the office, Valeria Nozvan stood still, gazing at the city walls and the moon shining above.
The door opened wide before a guard came rushing in. It was Alderic. The leader of the Knights order of the Nozvan estate and the sole Forth Star Aura user.
"I seek permission to deploy the Paragon."
Valeria’s gaze lingered on Aldric for a moment, then drifted upward to the pale blue moon before she spoke.
"Granted. Take Lucian and let him take action."
Aldric bowed his head. "Sir Lucian is already at the city walls, along with Young Master Nolen," he said before leaving the room.
Valeria’s gaze lingered on the city below for a few more seconds before she finally turned. Her hand brushed a small book on the shelf. The moment she tilted it, the bookcase shuddered and split apart, sliding open to reveal a gleaming set of red armor. Its helmet bore twisted crimson horns, curving outward like a crown.
Beneath the armor, a slender blade glowed dimly on its own, revealing another layer of red material underneath the glass like outer coating.
She reached out, letting her fingers trace the polished surface. As her touch met the metal, a subtle hum of mana responded, flowing into her like a heartbeat syncing with her own.
--
"Fire! Use the Venom! Don’t let them pile up... Prepare the Artillerist for the second wave!" Lucian shouted, also nocking up an arrow.
Before letting it go.
Followed by the series of arrows launched by the soldiers, like a flock of crows raining down on the surging weak monsters.
Slick slick slick slick
The arrows rain down, piercing the monsters in the paths. The first wave consists of weak beasts like grey wolves, Silverfang Foxes, and purple skinned lizards to first tier beasts such Red spotted boars, Ironfang Panthers, and a few other weak monsters.
Which were all weak to poison. Their little amount of mana is not enough to protect their bodies. Killing a few dozen monsters. But despite such a number, Lucian prepared another wave, knocking his bow and launching another set of arrows.
The monsters are weak even low ranks can kill them, but the problem wasn’t that, It was the sheer number of them!.
Lucian’s expression darkened as he took in the scale of the surge. Like waves of a raging sea, monsters poured out endlessly, far more than any surge seen in the last few decades. This wasn’t normal.
A surge usually meant beasts shifting from one region to another, most scattering or hiding as instinct dictated. But this... this was different. There were too many. Something powerful had moved, forcing the lesser beasts into a frenzy, their fear so great they forgot even the instinct to hide.
The first wave was only the beginning. Consisting of the outer edge. Stronger beasts would follow in the second, third, and even fourth tiers. And this time, it wouldn’t be just a few. Dozens of them... maybe even a fifth tier.
Even if it’s one or two Fifth tier beasts. They could defend the city somehow. But the problem would be the damage it will cause. The city wall will collapse alongside many other important facilities like the mines.
They had no choice. Nozvan had to go all out.
"Nolen," he said, voice tight, "prepare Delta. Tell Aldric to go all out to deploy every knight, every mercenary we have."
Nolen, standing beside him, nodded silently, his gaze sweeping over the endless wave of monsters. Arrow after arrow had already claimed countless bodies, yet the tide showed no sign of slowing.
"Yes, Father."
Saying that he jumped right from the city walls, winds flutter around him, slowing his fall. The city was already in chaos, with people rushing here and there with occasional tamed beasts panicking.
He ignored them all and rushed towards the Nozvan estate while thinking, ’Where’s his stupid brother?’
Meanwhile, his foolish brother was attempting something that most would dismiss as madness, an idea that existed only in theory.
Kairos stood balanced atop a massive tree, eyes fixed on a small cave that burrowed deep into the ground. Around him, monsters of every kind thundered past, third-tier beasts with the occasional fourth-tier among them, yet not a single one dared to cross the cave or dare to go around it.
Ignoring the chaos raging outside, Kairos narrowed his gaze on the cave mouth. Within the cave, within the darkness, occasionally a few pairs of eyes blinked.
’Here goes nothing.’
Slowly, he drew in a steady breath and pulled out a small black sphere, a thin white string dangling from it. A blackout bomb. Once triggered, it unleashed a piercing frequency beyond human hearing, a sound that could drive even beasts into disarray, making them go crazy.
And that’s what he wants to do here. Lighting the fuse, he threw the whole bag, containing at least dozens of Blackout bombs. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
The bombs rolled down slowly, fuses hissing like snakes before erupting one after another with few flickering lights, giving small glances at the creatures hiding within.
Krrreeeehhhhh!
A shrill roar burst out from within the cave, followed by the sound of claws scraping stone. The ground trembled as pale, white-furred creatures spilled forth. They were no larger than hounds, their bodies round and deceptively fluffy, but on their backs sat a grotesque, volcano-shaped opening. From each crater spewed a misty stream of white gas that hissed into the air.
"Third tier..." Kairos muttered, crimson eyes narrowing. "Vulkrats."
The vapor spilling from their backs crept along the ground like a ghostly fog. A wolf strayed too close, its body shuddering as blood filled its eyes. White started to gas out from its mouth.
It gazed at the side and opened its mouth wide open, tearing into the flesh of its own kind.
One after another, beasts that touched the gas snapped, their minds drowned in madness, and started attacking anything that was close to them.
Instantly, more and more vulkrats started to spread out. White gas spread everywhere,In a mere few seconds the whole place was in chaos.
Kairos gripped onto the tree more securely. While uttering, ’It worked.’
